We’re busy planning our festive pop up shops, with entertainment and mulled wine – if this doesn’t make you feel Christmassy, nothing will! We’re also looking for some elves to help wrap presents to donate to local children as part of Christmas in Anderston. The Make Up For Ever team will be on-site on 6th November to demo Christmas party looks when you can book the team to come to Skypark for your Christmas party make over! For many of us the festive social whirl is followed by the dreaded New Years’ resolutions, so why not visit our friends at SWEAT! who are offering a great membership deal for those wanting a head start on their fitness. What a fantastic opportunity to meet people and really boost your fitness and energy levels in January! Talking of being busy, it’s been a cracking year for our growing community. We’re delighted to say that Skypark 5 is fully let with the arrival of new tenant Stena Line and Lloyds Register who have expanded there too. We celebrated our first TechFest Event – a technology and visual effects festival - featuring the work of Axis Animation, Clyde Space, Spire Global, Filament PD and Finding Your Feet with R3nder. Read on for highlights and thanks to everyone that took part and made it happen. Our investment in making Skypark the best place to work in Scotland continues and we’re delighted to have secured funding from Cycling Scotland that will make cycling to work here even better. Look out for cycling news around site next year. Finally, you may also have seen the news that our inspiring tenant Corinne Hutton, quadruple amputee, has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, so far raising over £35k to help prevent social isolation of individuals affected by limb loss. startline expands at skypark Rapid growth has seen motor finance specialist Startline upgrade to more spacious offices on the campus.
The move comes five years since the business was started and at a time when it is undergoing “transformative” expansion, according to CEO Paul Burgess, pictured here with COO Gregor Sutherland. He said: “In the last 12 months, we have seen a 40 per cent increase in staffing and made a number of key senior
appointments, so we really need the additional space and amenities that the new offices provide.” The 7500 sq ft area on level four in Skypark 1 has been finished to a very high standard and Burgess said; “It is an ideal environment for a business of our kind as we enter this new phase in our development.”

The event was a showcase of the technology and creative specialists that are based here, including Richard Scott of Axis Studios who previewed the company’s first virtual reality project ‘The Bond’. The Bond was a completely selfinitiated project from start to end: all initial concept art and pre-visualisation work, animation, and lighting was completed internally at the studio. This is an incredibly exciting time for Axis and Scotland’s creative industries.” Axis Studios is a multi-award-winning animation and visual effects collective, comprising three artistically unique

The studios work extensively across film, television, video games and themed entertainment, collaborating with the likes of the BBC, Channel 4, Netflix, Amazon Studios, Universal Studios, Sega, Blizzard Entertainment and Microsoft. The festival continued with ‘Reel Serene’ afterparty at SWG3, Skypark’s first collaboration with the venue, where animation by Axis featured alongside the Scottish band VanIves and Nordic Kiasmos DJ Set by Janus Rasmussen. Finding Your Feet’s Nikki Etheridge (28) has helped to design her own bespoke prosthetic with Andrew Guild of R3nder, after she lost her left leg below the knee from Sarcoma. Finding Your Feet is working with R3nder on affordable, bespoke and innovative prosthetics for amputees and Nikki is the very first staff member amputee to receive one. Nikki lives in Glasgow and is originally from Brora in the Highlands. She works at Finding Your Feet, organising activities for amputees part time and John Lewis part time.

Andrew Guild of R3nder comments on the two issues they successfully overcame during this project: “Amputees typically want to disguise or hide their prosthetics because they may feel embarrassed or inferior. We want to change that mindset by introducing a range of options, which are practical (as they fit with an NHS supplied prosthetic and are detachable), can be discreet (in Nikki’s case, her attachment’s shape has almost mirrored the shape of her other leg) and because the design is so bespoke and has been chosen by her, Nikki is proud to show off her prosthetic and new attachment. Nikki is living proof that we have successfully conquered this issue. All other attachments that have been documented in the press recently are unbelievably expensive. We have proven that this doesn’t have to be the case and are proud to showcase a fine example of an affordable option for thousands of amputees. Using modern and efficient prototyping technology, we have given all amputees a chance to afford a boost in confidence and an opportunity to be proud of their prosthetics.”

Calling all crime writing fans: Claire Serves Murder for Lunch! H
ailing from a sparkling international background in TV, film and theatre, we welcome Glasgow-based crime writer Claire Duffy, who is serving Murder for Lunch, a quirky take on a book reading and writing workshop, that offers a twist on the usual soup and sarnie! Claire says: “Murder for Lunch is quirky fun event that is very easy to come along to, listen and enjoy – people are welcome to drop in and drop out when it suits and bring in their lunch! I’ll be discussing the background of my ‘Dark of Night’ series and how it has progressed through four books, how it was inspired by an anecdote about a date with Ted Bundy and why Glasgow is the main character. I’ll also read a couple of extracts from the book. “I am really looking forward to meeting people and encouraging new writing talent. I can answer any questions about writing, self-publishing or crime fiction offering tips and pointers to those looking to develop a career in crime writing, one of the most popular genres in Scotland.” To book a place at ‘Murder for Lunch’ on 15th November, please email loraine@skypark-glasgow.com. Everyone’s welcome here Brian Keady, one of the longestserving employees at Leidos, joined the company as a Finance Assistant and worked his way up to his current role as Finance Sector Lead. Sophie Lennon, a Leidos Graduate Software Developer, was previously a bar tender. Dr Shirley Cavin had lots of different business and research roles prior to joining Leidos, including Developer, Technical Lead, Research Associate and PhD Mentor.
We caught up with some Leidos Skypark employees recently to find out how they

Jill Logan, Head of the Project Management Office, is a ‘boomerang’ – she joined the company 18 years ago, left to work elsewhere for 15 months, then returned to Leidos. When they were little, no one knew exactly what their grown-up job would be but somehow all these different people and career paths ultimately led to Leidos, where they’re now working successfully together to grow and develop the business. And what did they all say was the best thing about working at Leidos? “The people!”
Don’t let anything hold you back Two brothers, Mohammed and Ali Osman, joined Leidos seven years ago. Both are software developers, both love football, tennis and cars, and both are deaf. None of this (even the football!) interferes with their day jobs, where
they communicate with colleagues through British Sign Language and lipreading, and a sign language interpreter is provided for meetings. Mo and Ali are key members of Leidos and are also two of the most smiley people you could meet. Ryan McCafferty, one of the youngest members of staff, joined straight from school, having completed a summer internship at Leidos through the Career Ready programme (www.careerready. org.uk), which helps connect young people with the world of work. Through the support of his colleagues and Career Ready mentor, Ryan has settled into working life and is now excelling as a Project Management Graduate Apprentice. No matter what your background, interests, age, ability or career path, the advice from all these Leidos employees is to find something you love and just go for it!

Inspirational mum with no hands or feet conquers Kilimanjaro 7th October, and is believed to be the first female quadruple amputee to do so. Corinne, who has a young 10-year-old son, suffered a bad cough in 2013, which turned out to be pneumonia. This led to Sepsis and she was given just a 5% chance of survival. Doctors worked tirelessly, saving what they could of Corinne’s organs. She survived, but her hands and feet had been starved of oxygen for so long that there was no choice other than If you would like to support amputation.

Corinne was the first female quadruple amputee to summit Ben Nevis, and this is the latest in a string of challenges and accomplishments that she has taken on since losing her hands and lower legs. An operation to remove the majority of a lung in 2017 came months before The London Triathlon, but she refused to let that stop her and crossed the finish line in one hour and 52 minutes.

Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano in Tanzania. At around 20,000ft above sea level, it is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
C
ongratulations to the inspirational Corinne Hutton, founder of Finding Your Feet, who conquered Kilimanjaro on 7th October. So far quadruple amputee Corinne and her team have raised over £35,000 to support families affected by amputation or limb difference, through a range of sporting initiatives and social inclusion projects. It has been proven that quality of life and even life expectancy is greatly reduced without social inclusion, and Finding Your Feet is key in addressing this issue.
Ten fundraisers joined Corinne on the climb all to raise money for Finding Your Feet, a charity supporting amputees started by Corinne in 2014 following her own amputations. The team has raised over £30,000 from the climb so far, with the number still growing as support for Corinne pours in from all over the world. The team completed their descent on Sunday 7th October. Corinne gave us her thoughts on the life-changing climb. “I went into this to encourage people to be the best they possibly can be, to prove that I’m not “disabled” and to raise money to support the amputee community. The support I’ve received from back home and from people all over has kept me going. I managed to see the incredible support coming in, and that’s what got me to the top. “I knew the climb would be hard on prosthetics, and altitude may be a problem with only having one and 1/3 lungs. What I didn’t understand was how much it would take out of me every minute of the day, even when we weren’t climbing.
The Charity relies on people giving their time, through donations and fundraising. Please read on to find out more on Corinne’s achievements and how you or your company could give support, either through giving time or fundraising for the amputee community.
“Everyone that was with me was incredible. They’ve all done something fantastic for charity so they deserve a lot of credit. They were there to help me when I needed it. “Hopefully this shows anyone, not just amputees, that you can go out and conquer your own mountain, whatever that may be.”

All funds raised go to support clubs for amputees that include swimming, skiing, climbing, gardening, crafting, pilates, fitness and our most popular ‘Ampu-teas’ session where ‘Troopers’ meet up for a coffee and chat. They offer emotional support through an in-house Counsellor, and have an online support forum which offers peer support for amputees around the UK and beyond. They have big ambitions for how to improve the lives of the amputee community and some exciting ideas for the future of prosthetics.
About Corinne Hutton Corinne Hutton had a 5% chance of survival in a battle with sepsis in 2013. She survived, however doctors were forced to amputate both her hands and her feet. Within four months of losing her limbs she had set up Finding Your Feet to help other amputees. Since then, Corinne has carried the Commonwealth Games baton, received the Freedom of Renfrewshire, been given the Points of Light award by Prime Minister David Cameron and is regularly included in Inspirational Women of the Year awards. She was the first female quadruple amputee to summit Ben Nevis. She has been instrumental in raising awareness of organ donation and the dangers of sepsis.

Emirates launch Edinburgh to Dubai Service Emirates, the largest international airline in the world, with an office in Skypark, has announced it has started a new service between Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh, and Dubai, from October 2018.
Edinburgh will become Emirates’ second destination in Scotland after Glasgow and its 8th in the United Kingdom after the airline starts its daily service to London Stansted in June. The new service will be operated by an Emirates Boeing 777-300ER in a three class cabin configuration, with 8 private suites in First Class, 42 lie flat seats in Business Class and 304 spacious seats in Economy Class.

Flight EK023 will depart Dubai daily at 0955hrs and arrive in Edinburgh at 1450hrs, while the return flight, EK024 will depart Edinburgh at 2015hrs and arrive in Dubai at 0640hrs the next morning. TAKE 5… with Danny McGuire, Security Team Leader
What do you enjoy about being part of the security team here at Skypark? ‘I have made a lot of good friends, both with people I work with, other staff and contractors who come and go on site’
Danny McGuire is the longest serving member of Skypark’s 14-strong security team. The 28-year old from the north of Glasgow started as a temporary cover guard in 2011 and has seen staff come and go, companies expand and the campus develop over the course of 7 years. The physically demanding job means he can walk 20 miles over the course of a shift. Skyline took time out with him to find out more.
What do you like to do when you are not working? ‘I love tinkering with my two motorbikes and taking them out around the Campsies. I also like to work out and train regularly on the weights at the onsite gym.’ Describe yourself in three words... ‘Geek, rocker and biker!’ Tell us something unusual about you? ‘I am an avid collector of comic book memorabilia and have a living room full of super hero bobble heads!’ Where would you like to be in the next 7 years? ‘Still here at Skypark, hopefully higher up on the Operations side of things. I can’t think of anywhere else I would like to work!

eorgina Scott, an artist based at Edinburgh Palette Studios, has opened a new art exhibition ‘Botanics’ inspired by the natural beauty of Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens, transforming our gallery walls.
New exhibition brings the natural beauty of the Botanic Gardens indoors at Skypark
Georgina Scott studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, and teaches in schools and colleges said: “Botanics is a new series of paintings and drawings that is inspired by many visits to the glasshouses of the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow. A variety of materials - acrylic and oil paint, as well as mixed media drawing and printmaking are used to explore the multiple visual layers and textures of the Garden’s planthouses. The work considers the juxtaposition between

geometric and organic form, converting light and space into a tangible form in a series of paintings and mixed media drawings creating a sense of space and place. Land and Seascapes Exhibition: Seana Doherty and Carla Faulkner
I
n early 2019, our gallery walls will be adorned by the sparkling seascapes and beautiful landscapes, the work of an artistic duo, Seana Doherty and Carla Faulkner that jointly exhibit their art collection regularly around the Glasgow area.

Seana Doherty is originally from Ireland and moved to Scotland in her teens. Studying law at university she has never stopped painting and making fused glass. Seana primarily paints en plein air and in oils. The collection will feature her favourite seascapes and portraits of children that were painted in France and Italy, including a dream trip to Venice, as well as the Isle of Harris, Lanzarote and all over Scotland. Seana said: “My favourite subject is water from the bright green and turquoise seas and white sands to reflections in rivers and canals. I am also known for my portraits of children and dogs and even bridal parties paddling in the sea capturing the essence of the subject, that is secondary to the mesmerising sea.” Carla Faulkner comes from mid-Wales but spent most of her childhood in the Scottish Highlands. She studied psychology at Stirling University and moved to Glasgow shortly after graduating. Carla is a self-taught artist and paints mainly in acrylics and often paints en plein air. She now lives North of Glasgow and exhibits regularly with Milton of Campsie Art Club. Carla said: “Growing up in the Cairngorms it was hard not to be inspired by the landscape around me. I wanted to be like Constable and recreate the beauty of my surroundings in my paintings. Then I moved away, and my studies and early working life took over. I found it hard to make the time and space to paint often. I struggled with inspiration too. It took time for me to settle in to my new urban landscape. I loved the buzz and energy of the city but had no idea how to relate it to my painting. “I now live outside the city, under the Campsie Hills, in between rural industry and concrete wilderness. I’ve found new ways of seeing and responding to the landscape around me. The drama of the mountains still captivates me but so does the view from the seventh floor or the vibrant hum of the city at night. I find myself less interested in painting a classically picturesque view and more interested in capturing the exceptional in the everyday.” Carla and Seana will exhibit their work jointly in Skypark’s donated gallery space in January and February 2019.

fundraising for finding your feet The Skypark Team continued their support for our on-site charity Finding Your Feet - we got on our bikes along with many Skypark volunteers and cycled 90km for the Kinda Kili Challenge, alongside Paul, Lorraine, Shelley and Shona from Bell Integration who completed the challenge in SWEAT! Gym. We had a spooktacular time dressing up on Halloween - thanks for all your donations!

Great Scottish Run challenge for Brain Tumour Research

n September 30th, Beatrice Vetter-Ceriotti, who works as an Associate Medical Writer for Complete HealthVizion (a McCann Health company based on the 6th floor in Skypark 1) took part in the Great Scottish Run 10k race with her best friend Susanne Rau, who flew in from Germany especially for the event, to raise awareness and funds for Brain Tumour Research.

Sadly, in September 2017, Genesio lost his fight against the disease, leaving his wife and two sons. Beatrice said: “By running this event in his memory and fundraising for Brain Tumour Research, maybe something good will come from all my grief”. Currently Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet only 1% of the UK national spend on cancer research is allocated to finding new treatments. Joe Woollcott, Community Fundraising Manager for Brain Tumour Research, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Beatrice and Susanne for fundraising for us and helping to raise awareness of this dreadful disease, and especially to Susanne for flying from Germany to take part“.
The pair took on the run to mark the first anniversary of Beatrice losing her father-in-law who suffered from a brain tumour, a grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma, for nearly six years. The goal was to raise money to fund new research against this disease.

he children from our on-site nursery have been getting involved in Skypark life. On Halloween a group of teeny trick or treaters came into reception at Skypark 1 and had a lunchtime sing along in aid of Finding Your Feet – our on-site charity which supports amputees and their families.

Her 25-minute acupressure treatment is short, therapeutic and highly effective. Using no oil, clients sit fully clothed on an ergonomically designed chair that supports internal organs and frees up the neck and shoulder area. Anna says it’s this area that most tension comes from due to typing, using a mouse, scrolling on a phone, ‘basically being a modern human!’ she says.
