Work on the main ramp entrance to the complex is expected to be completed late March, and you can catch a sneak peek at how the improvements will look in our spotlight on page 4 of this edition of Skyline. Of course this is only the beginning of an ongoing refurbishment programme designed to improve Skypark for our tenants and visitors - look out for more news coming soon. We couldn't plan these improvements without finding out what you would like to see on site. One of the requests to emerge on the wish-list from our last tenant survey - for an on site ATM machine with free cash withdrawals - has come to fruition (see our list of services on page 10). We have a new Site Survey out, to give you the opportunity again to make your voice heard. It will take just a few minutes of your time. We want to hear your opinion on the changes made so far, and what you would like to see in the year ahead.

s you will be aware, work is currently underway to improve the ramp and entranceway to Skypark.

With work due to be completed by late March, we wanted to thank everyone for bearing with us while the refurbishment is carried out. Above is an image of what it will look like once the remodel is complete. Other improvements completed include new covered bike racks, which should make life easier for the cyclist commuters among us, and a site wide repainting programme is currently under way. Communication has been made easier with the provision of free WiFi in Skypark 1 communal areas. But all of that is just the beginning and FREE there are further improvements on the way. Watch this space.....

GETS BEHIND SPORT RELIEF 19TH – 23RD MARCH Sport Relief is a huge fundraising campaign which aims to gets everyone active while they raise cash and help to change lives across the world’s poorest countries and in the UK - including funding vital projects right here in Glasgow.

BRING A POUND TO WORK WEEK Did you know there are over 3500 people working at Skypark and we are looking to bring everyone together and raise as much money as possible for Sport Relief. If everyone who worked at Skypark donated just £1 then we could raise over £3,500 for such a great cause. Just £350 could pay for 875 children in Uganda to have a rapid diagnostic test for malaria, giving them a chance of surviving long enough to reach hospital. We could raise ten times that amount! So please dig deep and bring a pound into work, donation buckets can be found at Skypark 1 main reception! A little really can make a huge difference.

WEDNESDAY 21ST: BAKE SALE If fitness is not your thing, don’t worry we will be holding a bake sale in Skypark 1 Reception from 10am! So come and treat yourself to a delicious cake and pop a donation in the bucket! Again all proceeds go straight to Sport Relief. Or if you want to help, feel free to get baking, contributions are more than welcome... email Kelly@skypark-glasgow.com

In 2010, Sport Relief raised over £42 million and changed countless lives forever. You could do your own bit to top this total by taking part in a series of fundraisers on site.

FRIDAY 23RD: GET ON YOUR BIKE MONDAY 19TH & TUESDAY 20TH ZUMBA & CARDIO COMBAT Take part in Zumba or Cardio Combat and help raise funds for such a worthwhile cause, while getting fit at the same time. We really want to raise as much as we can this week, so get your dancing shoes on and come along and have some fun. The fun Zumba session takes place on Monday at 5.30-6.15pm, costing £3.00 and Cardio Combat is on Tuesday at 5.45-6.45pm, costing £3.50. All money goes straight to Sports Relief. Skypark and Greens Health and Fitness have teamed up and are needing your help to raise money for Sport Relief. We will have a static bike set up in the main reception area of Skypark 1 and we are looking for volunteers who can come down and cycle for 15 minute or 30 minute period, for a 12 hour period from 7am - 7pm! We are looking for sponsors for anyone who takes part, or just join in there and then and donate on the spot. A service for parents which trains for the future. Four Seasons, the award winning nursery based at Skypark, pride themselves on the quality of their staff. Over many years, they have employed enthusiastic youngsters as modern apprentices, training them to high standards while releasing them on a monthly basis to attend college. The apprentices get the best of both worlds – gaining excellent practical experience while learning the theory behind childcare development which

Four Seasons endeavour to employ their apprentices at the end of their training which gives continuity of care for their children and families. The longest serving modern apprentice has been with the company for 13 years and is now their Planning Officer. Glasgow City Council has developed a Commonwealth Apprentice Initiative to link in with the Games in 2014. The first four CAI apprentices are just finishing their training at Four Seasons and they have a further two starting. Glasgow has offered a great incentive to employers as they pay half of the first year’s salary. Four Seasons are all aware of the difficulties facing young people leaving school and trying to gain employment. Inez Murray, the owner and Manager of the Nursery said: “Employing school

New Art Exhibition: ‘Details’ by Ally Wallace

lasgow International Festival of Visual Art 2012, one of the UK’s boldest visual arts events, will continue its tradition of bringing together exhibitions by the best international and local artists, from Turner Prize winners and nominees to the most exciting emerging talent. The Festival will build on the successes of previous editions, showcasing work by more than 130 artists across nearly 50 of Glasgow’s best permanent and temporary exhibition venues spanning the length and breadth of the city.

Skypark 1 Reception Gallery 12th March - 30th April

solo exhibition of artworks by Ally Wallace, produced during his recent two-month residency at RMJM, Skypark. For the duration of the residency, the artist worked in response to the architectural firm’s office environment, making sculptures, drawings and paintings relating to equipment, furniture, architectural models, books and views out of the 9th floor windows.

The 18 day festival programme, running from the 20th April – 7th May will feature over 85 one-off events and key commissions at GoMA, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and Tramway.

The new work developed for this group exhibition which will be shown in Skypark, features sculpture, drawing, photography, printmaking, performance, and video. The exhibition will be curated in situ by the artists themselves. Science fiction / lament / design proposition / myth / colourfield : a logic emerges from the territories that each work presents. www.glasgowinternational.org

YWCA First Arts Fair Starts 7th June | Level -2, Skypark

lasgow artist, Clare Crines, has become Arts Patron for charity, Glasgow YWCA. Owner of Six Foot Gallery based in the Pentagon Centre and a lecturer at the Glasgow School of Art, Clare was keen to the support the charity as her daughter had attended one of their after school clubs in Gartnethill. As Patron, Clare will help organise and attend arts events to help raise funds for the charity, which is one of the city’s oldest charitable organisations. Clare said, “Without the Glasgow YWCA many women would be unable to work and for others their courses are a real lifeline for those who have undergone troubled circumstances, often suffering from abusive relationships. They offer a place of refuge as well as a learning opportunity and the chance to meet women who have come from similar backgrounds and gone on to flourish”. The first Arts Fair will take place at Skypark in Unit 162b, people will have the chance to view and buy works from many of the city’s aspiring artists. Artworks created by Clare (pictured) and also Executive Director, RoseAnne Dempster, will also be on show.

RoseAnne Dempster added, “Like many charities we are suffering from funding cuts and have to look at innovative ways to raise funds. Clare’s boundless energy and enthusiasm not too mention her skills; will make this event a great night.” Entry into the Arts Fair is free and artwork is priced from only £50, with some cheaper jewellery items also on sale. Founded in 1874, Glasgow YWCA has assisted thousands of young women, initially providing accommodation for women seeking work in the city. Today the organisation provides a pro-active learning and support centre in a wide range of skills courses, providing personal development to enable women to get back into work. In addition, the organisation provides after school care and crèche services.
