WELCOME Hello and a very warm welcome to the new issue of Skyline where I’m sure you’ll agree, we’ve got the Winter season on our business campus all wrapped up! We’re planning a fitness week in January and with many of us having a whirl of Christmas and Hogmanay parties (which, let’s face it, are the best incentive to get in shape ever) followed by the dreaded New Years’ resolutions, we thought we’d give Skyparkers a bit of a head start! We will be launching our brand spanking new on-site fitness studio, kitted out with showers, running and rowing machines – find out more on page 7.

We will have several fitness classes already taking place on campus, including yoga, piloxing and body conditioning (full details of these are on page 7). Classes are open to everyone and aren’t intimidating at all - every class caters to all levels of fitness and experience and they’re all great fun as well as a fantastic opportunity to meet people and really boost your fitness and energy levels. As well as all the healthy activities taking place on-site, you may also have noticed that we now have a new artist in residence at Skypark. Her name is Anna Sundt and you may even have been sketched by her by now. Anna is working on a groundbreaking, campus-wide project that brings together the arts and business communities. Find out more about Anna’s project, and how to get involved if you’re not already, on page 4 and 5. We’re also busy planning our Christmas Market, where you’ll be able to enjoy mince pies, pop-up shopping and Christmas cocktails – if this doesn’t make you feel Christmassy, nothing will!

Talking of being busy, it’s been a cracking year for our growing community, with 10 new letting deals signed this year which means we now have over 3,800 people on-site. What’s more, we’re delighted to announce that Axis Animation and DC Thomson are arriving soon! Our investment in making Skypark the best place to work in Scotland continues and we will be starting the refurbishment of our reception area after Christmas - we don't have a firm date for this yet but are hoping to get this underway as soon as possible. This refurbishment is part of our continued programme of improving the Skypark environment for all our tenants and whilst we will work hard to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum, we're sure you'll agree the work will be worth it in the end!

Painting business in a new light B
usiness and art – to some people they are like apples and oranges, chalk and cheese. To Anna Sundt, however, the relationship between the two is ripe for exploration, and she is doing so in a new art project at Skypark. Anna will spend a few days a week in November and December at Skypark drawing, sketching and taking photographs of the office environment in a project that brings art and business together. Having studied to become an occupational psychologist, she began
a wide-ranging career in management consultancy that took her from London to Australia. After a year spent in Guatemala working for a not-for-profit organisation, Anna decided to complete a long-held ambition and study art. For her degree at the Glasgow School of Art she’s exploring connections between art and business and wants to see how each component can benefit the other. Anna says: “This project at Skypark is all about capturing the intangibles of the business world and the unacknowledged creativity in the
office. People think that there isn’t much creativity in office environments, but many company decisions actually require lots of creative thinking like predicting future trends and problemsolving. Some businesses have been skeptical about this project, and likewise some people in the art world couldn’t see the point of exploring the two worlds’ relationship. Thankfully Skypark have been very welcoming in letting me come in and do my work.” Anna believes both parties have much to gain from a more cooperative
relationship. “I’ve run arts-based workshops with companies like Innocent Drinks and The Body Shop, and the results are always eye-opening. I want to get artists more involved in the business world because they can offer different skill sets and approaches to thinking – in fact it’s my vision in ten years time to have an artist in the boardrooms of major companies!” If you’re interested in getting involved with her project she is happy to come into offices and chat to the staff (and don’t worry, she doesn’t do portraits!).
She is also offering to run workshops for companies about how art could improve their business.
Anna’s work will involve drawings, sketches and photos of aspects of the office and people to create a visual documentation of what goes on in a business environment.

There will be an exhibition of the completed artwork in the New Year. Finished work will feature in Anna’s Glasgow School of Art degree show in June 2014.

Fitness Studio Opening! THURSDAY 9TH JANUARY Join us on Thursday 9th January between 12 and 2pm for the launch of our new Skyfit Studio on Level -2 in Skypark 1. January 2014 will see the launch of Skypark’s very own onsite fitness studio, which will be launched with a fitness week comprising lots of free classes with our fantastic on-site trainers Clare Buchanan, Paul McArdle and Natalie Antonelli – these guys will help you meet your New Year fitness targets, with bells on! Come and meet the instructors in the studio for more information on the classes. Reach Pharmacy will also be there to offer lots of health advice, including information on weight loss, smoking cessation and general well-being. January’s a time for taking control and sticking to those resolutions so why not make the most of all the help and advice that you can access at Skypark. Powerhouse fitness will be on-hand to give an induction on using the treadmills, bikes and cross trainers, as well as giveaways and info for anyone interested in their products.

Product Sprout Creates Commonwealth Games Schools’ Baton As Commonwealth Games fever takes hold, we’re delighted to reveal that team Product Sprout has been playing its part in inspiring young people to get involved in the Games, by designing the Commonwealth Schools’ Baton. Well done, guys!
Road to Victory” message of the winning entry by Liam Doherty of St Andrew’s Secondary School. We were impressed by the way that Liam had told the story of the Baton’s legacy and it’s physical journey.
In October, Lord Provost Sadie Docherty, handed over the Baton containing her message to the first school and it is now on a 10 month, 203 mile relay round the city’s schools and nurseries. Each school will represent a Commonwealth nation and the Baton will follow the route of the Queen’s Baton as it visits the chosen school that is twinned with that country.
“The top of the Baton has eleven arms radiating out from a central core, one for every day of the games - this is where the legacy starts. The arms then spiral down from the top representing the journey until they come together as one at the handle, signifying young people carrying the legacy forward.
Danny Kane, Director of Product Sprout gives the low down on how the design for the Baton came about. Danny says, “It’s been a privilege to be involved in the design of the Commonwealth Games Schools’ Baton. We hope that it will become a tangible symbol that will encourage young people to participate and get involved in all aspects of the Commonwealth Games. In the long term, it would be incredible if it could also play a part in promoting a positive, sustainable legacy for Glasgow’s youth. “We were extremely impressed by the variety and quality of concepts submitted by students from all over Glasgow to the design competition. The Baton’s winning design is inspired by the “On the

You would be surprised how much quicker experienced AutoCAD users can produce drawings after being on one of our courses! I’ve had trainees with 15+ years CAD experience telling me they can produce drawings in half the time after being on one of my courses. And given that these courses can be 50% funded through a Skills Development Scotland grant, a day’s training could cost as little as £75 per person – next to nothing for almost doubling productivity!

With a background in Manufacturing Engineering, Architecture and Facilities Management, Opticad’s founder Chris Mackay, is one of Scotland’s entrepreneurs specialising in helping CAD (Computer Aided Design) users whether - designers, engineers or architects - to almost double their productivity! Chris is an AutoCAD software expert, whose mission is to promote the efficient use of AutoCAD software in all industries where it is used, whether designing consumer products to large scale commercial projects. Working with large and small companies, Chris’ client list includes Strathclyde University’s Estates Department and the raised flower bed producers (pictured above), Woodblocx as seen on TV’s Dragons Den, to help them produce higher quality end products in a lot less time. Skyline met Chris Mackay to hear more about Opticad. He says, “We run classroom training sessions which teach individuals how to use AutoCAD as efficiently as possible, making use of the most up to date drawing methods. This applies not just

Countdown to Christmas in Anderston
Calling all present wrappers! The countdown to ‘Christmas in Anderston’ on December 6th is on and Skypark will be doing its bit to help local children by donating 350 Christmas presents for this annual festive event. We need help to wrap the children’s presents on 4th December. If you can spare just 10 minutes then read on! Now in its 7th year, Skyline visited ‘Christmas in Anderston’s founder, Councillor Philip Braat, to hear what this annual event means to the community and how Skypark’s support has helped to add some festive magic for local children. Councillor Philip Braat says, “Christmas in Anderston is a real celebration of the community coming together from families to businesses, public services and schools. It’s well established on the calendar and is a great example of community spirit coming alive. “Every year the event grows bigger as it gathers support from all the
Christmas tree lights. The Christmas tree symbolises the spirit of the community and brings a smile to everyone’s faces. The event’s climax is an amazing fireworks display that rounds off a magical day. organisations who work tirelessly to make it happen for the 2000 local people and children who come along throughout the day. With a merry go round, acrobats, police vehicles and a classic fire engine, to a pantomime, balloon artists, DJ and a bouncy castle, there’s tons of fun for everyone. A popular highlight is when children from the three local schools, St Patrick’s Primary, Anderston Primary and the Glasgow Gaelic School give musical performances. Philip continues, “The excitement continues when Santa Claus arrives to give presents to all the children, with a little help from Skypark and then it’s the big countdown to switch on the

Welcome to… A big welcome to Clear Surgical Ltd, which has joined the Skypark community and is now based on Floor 4 at Skypark 3. This exciting new firm on campus creates innovative surgical products that are set to transform surgical theatres. And it’s goodbye to... Sadly it will soon be time for us to bid a very fond farewell to the Glasgow School of Art departments that have been based here at Skypark whilst their campus was renovated. Although we always knew they wouldn’t be here forever, we’re sad to see them go as they brought a wealth of creativity to Skypark, as well as a real buzz and energy. We wish them all the very best in their newly renovated home and will continue to support the GSA and the arts community in general wherever possible. Goodbye also to Where the Monkey Sleeps, which had accompanied the GSA to Skypark for its stay here – we will miss your quirky menus, friendly faces and fabulous food! Pasta La Vista guys.
Charity Spot... We’d like to say a big well done to everyone at HML. They raised a massive £1179 for Children in Need! A special mention must go Kelly Adams (pictured) who shaved her hair off for this great cause!
Spotlight on... our new Admin Assistant Gillian Stewart Gillian Stewart is Skypark’s newest addition to the Centre Management team. Read on to find out more about how she keeps things ticking over at the heart of the business campus. Gillian joined Skypark at the end of October 2013 and has quickly taken on board all the responsibilities that come with being an Administrative Assistant at Skypark. Gillian said: “My job is to help with the day-to-day running of the centre’s management – so if you get a call on a Monday morning asking if you heard a fire alarm, that’d be me! I’m really enjoying life at Skypark because it’s a fun and different working environment to be in. I’m learning new things and constantly kept busy, which can be a plus and a minus at times!” When she isn’t making sure the centre’s running as smoothly as possible, she likes to keep herself busy in other ways: “I like going to the gym, reading books and watching American TV like Sons of Anarchy. Occasionally I go out for a drink or two, just to take the edge off the working week. I also enjoy cooking, but I’m no expert – I’m afraid the Masterchef audition will have to wait!”

Four Seasons at Skypark wins Healthy Working Lives Award
A word from Inez Murray, proprietor of Four Seasons at Skypark: “We were absolutely delighted to be presented with our Silver Healthy Working Lives award recently at a ceremony in the Chris Hoy Arena. The CEO of the Commonwealth Games Committee, David Grevemberg, gave an inspiring speech and presented the awards. Four Seasons is the first private nursery in Greater Glasgow and Clyde to receive this award. “Caring for our children and their parents is integral to the ethos of our
business and we wanted to prove our staff are equally important. This NHS initiative evidences how we are involved in providing a healthy work place where all are treated equally. We raised awareness of various health issues including healthy eating, sun, alcohol and stress awareness. We did a sponsored cycle/walk round Cumbrae in support of the Beatson Centre and introduced a weekly fruit basket for staff. “The Commonwealth Games next year will provide us with an ideal opportunity to further develop the link with healthy lifestyles to wellbeing. We are now going for gold!”
Security firm win silver award Our security provider, Palmaris Services, came away ‘highly commended’ from the British Institute of Facilities Management Awards this year – the only Scottish company to receive such an honour. The Skypark security team narrowly missed out on first prize for Facilities Manager Service Provider of the Year from the BIFM judges at the ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 14 October. Chris Nugent, managing director of Palmaris Services said: “We are thrilled to receive this commendation from the BIFM awards. It’s very encouraging that the judges think so highly of our service and we’ll take it as a sign to continue our exceptional performances.” Further information from www.palmaris-services.com

Quirky peanut butter campaign makes awards shortlist Skypark tenants Th!nkfrog Marketing and Safehinge have been selected as finalists in the prestigious 2013 Construction Marketing Awards. Th!nkfrog’s ‘peanut butter’ campaign for Safehinge’s ALUmini product has been shortlisted in the Best Product Launch category alongside five other contenders.
