WELCOME Hey y’all. Welcome to the summer issue of Skyline! In our action packed fundraising Hoedown issue, we’ve just the ticket for adrenaline junkies and party people alike to get y’all in the mood before you head off on sun filled (we hope!) holidays.

This year’s fundraiser on June 21st is double the fun, bigger, faster and even scarier than last year – eek! Our adrenaline filled zip slide and abseil challenges will see Radio Clyde DJs and football legend Frank McAvennie whizz off two Skypark buildings – we don’t do anything by half measures! We raised a whopping £20k last year, so please help us to smash our target and give much needed funds to Cash for Kids and Barnardo’s to help local children and families. It's open to everyone to take part as well as friends and family of Skyparkers. See Kelly at reception to sign up now as places are limited. As if that wasn’t enough, we’ll be throwing our summer Hoedown Party where all you guys ‘n’ gals, can dust down your Stetsons and mosey on down to Cranston Street car park for an afternoon of live music, BBQ and fun family entertainment. e’re pleased to announce that Resonance Capital, the joint venture partner with Moorfield Group in Skypark, is to be the headline sponsor of the GSA Degree Show 2013.
The Degree Show will take place from 8th-15th June on the Garnethill campus and here at Skypark. The Show will feature the work of more than 400 graduating students from the Schools of Fine Art, Design and Architecture. Expected to attract up to 20,000 visitors, it showcases work by a new generation of talent that is following in the footsteps of celebrated fashion designer Jonathan Saunders, PDE graduates Andy Lauder, Design Manager for Apple in the USA and Jonathan Biddle, Design Manager for Kindle/Amazon - USA, and Turner Prize winning artists Douglas Gordon and Martin Boyce. The Skypark Campus, which has been home to the GSA’s Design School whilst the phase 1 of the campus development at Garnethill is under construction, will once again host the Degree Show exhibition by students graduating from the many design disciplines. In Communication Design, visitors will see projects ranging from Jade Starmore’s striking, photographic Museum of Forgotten Costume collection to Ross Hogg’s short film, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, which has been selected for a screening at 2013 Edinburgh International Film Festival. In Jewellery and Silversmithing designs range from exquisite creations in precious metals to funky rings, necklaces and bracelets. Among the graduating students to look out for is Stephanie Cheong whose O-pin project won her the 2013 GSA Deutsche Bank Award. Interior Design graduates have created responses to briefs ranging a small office to a bar and a fish shop. Graduates in Textiles at the GSA include the celebrated fashion designer, Jonathan Saunders. At the Degree Show, the 2013 Textiles cohort will present a startling array of knitted, printed, embroidered and woven textiles. Meanwhile, Product Design and Product Design Engineering will showcase projects at the cutting edge of modern technology and service design – projects, like the previous Product Design student initiative Dementia Dogs, will make tangible differences to our lives.

On June 21st we have two fantastic opportunities for everyone, with a zip wire and abseil all in the aid of charity. Join Frank McAvennie in taking the leap for charity! Skyparkers will be raising money for their own charities as well as Cash for Kids and Barnado’s with this year’s charity event, so why not put a team together with your colleagues or friends, it’s open to everyone!? You won’t be alone as Frank McAvennie will also be harnessing up to raise as much money as he can for both charities. Just remember, don’t look down! Interested? After throwing yourself off the Skypark building and screaming your head off, you can relax at the Skypark’s annual summer event. This year we are throwing a Hoedown Party where the guys ‘n’ gals can mosey on down to Lower Cranston St from 3:30pm – 7pm for an afternoon filled with live music, BBQ and fun family entertainment. We’d like to say a massive well done to everyone who dressed up, got drenched, donated and got into the spirit for Comic Relief this year! Between everyone at Skypark we managed to raise a huge amount of money for a great cause. Thank you to everyone and here are a few snaps of the day...
Skypark Management, Security, Cleaning and Maintenance raised £330 and gave everyone a good laugh by dressing in Onesies for the day!
Hazel Hume from Stella Travel dyed her hair red for the occasion, raising £203! Other activities throughout the office raised over £1300!
GHA lucky dip stall raised a whopping £608!
O2 tug of war! Through on-site fundraising an amazing £1,411.07 was raised, and £60,562.50 through incoming call donations taken on the night!!

Skypark has a wide range of tenants all under its roof and this month we are shinning the spot light on Herbert Engineering Corp, whose area of expertise is in the conceptual, preliminary and contract design of commercial vessels e.g. conversions of containerships, break-bulk carriers, ro-ro’s, and tankers. Herbert Engineering Corp (HEC) is actively involved in the design of ships, marine transportation systems, and offshore structures. Product Sprout has joined Skypark and we’re excited to announce that these guys are taking new product ideas and literally making them sprout!

odiatry is the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of abnormalities in the lower limb and foot. Services include biomechanics, orthoses, nail surgery, wound care, health promotion and advice, management of the ‘at risk’ foot as well as a number of other specialist treatments. Katie Hamilton and Louise Cassidy are state registered podiatrists (HPCP registered) both graduating in 2009 with a BSc Honours degree in Podiatry from Glasgow Caledonian University. Katie has worked in a variety of positions within the NHS since qualifying in 2009. She is currently working in Oban as a Generalist

New Service at Skypark with K&L Podiatrists Specialist Podiatrist. Katie has gained experience and skills in toenail care, corn and verruca treatment, nail surgery and sports injuries/biomechanics. She has a certificate in local anaesthetics to allow for more specialist treatments. Through K&L Podiatry, Katie is keen to bring these skills and services to Skypark.
Louise has experience in working in the private sector of podiatry and is excited to be given the opportunity to incorporate the skills and knowledge she has developed into the service that K&L Podiatry will be providing Skypark. After graduating from Podiatry Louise went on to study a Post Graduate diploma in Anaesthetics and qualified in 2012. Louise has also gained work in working in the NHS.
Wildlife Adventures at Skypark! People often ask how a nursery based in a business complex can be involved in nature. It takes some planning but most things are possible. In line with the Curriculum for Excellence, we follow the children’s interests which at this time of the year turn to summer.
We bought a caterpillar kit and managed to grow 5 butterflies. We had to choose a calm day to release them – not an easy task. The children were thrilled to see the butterflies going onto the flowers outside reception. They understand the life cycle and hope to see caterpillars soon.
The Busy Bees (our 3-5 year olds) have been very busy learning about bees, minibeasts and butterflies. Initially, the children wanted to investigate bees. We found lots of information and went to the Art Galleries to see the bee hive. We went around the flower beds outside but could not find any bees. The children decided it was too cold.
Our last wildlife experience has been watching our tadpoles grow in their tank. Again, the children understand the life cycle. However, they have been told that if we do manage to grow frogs they will be released in the country, far away from Skypark.
This led on to an interest in minibeasts in general. So we went on several minibeast hunts around the area and found worms, spiders, slugs and snails. Somewhere along the line we must have dug up a grub as we hatched a lily beetle!

We are thrilled to announce painter and sculptor Nigel Reid-Foster and his magnificent work Sense Datum to Skypark. Over the years Nigel has explored a range of visually expressive processes in two, three and four dimensions representational and abstract, working with the mediums of paint, sculpture, photography and film. With his work exploring the apparent randomness of life and the relationship between the sea and land and the often difficult relations man has with the sea.

Nigel, who is from Kilcreggan, Argyll & Bute, began his career in the arts with Scottish Opera, training in theatre set and property design and construction, working with Scottish opera in their workshops and theatres and touring with Scottish Opera’s Opera for Youth Company with property and educational duties
Scottish Artist Nigel Reid-Foster showcases visual sensation at Skypark
With Sense Datum taking pride of place in Skypark until the end of June Nigel said: “With these hard-edged geometrical abstractions I explored the emotions evoked by visual sensation at a fundamental and direct level. I have removed all complicated processes and dispensed as far a possible with any representation or narrative, instead presenting simple geometric forms. “Colour has the innate ability to directly address and powerfully provoke our emotions; I use it here in wide sumptuous swathes, utterly flat and devoid of texture yet bursting with energy and tension. “Forms are reduced almost to symbols, yet they offer no meaning and hint at no narrative. Hung on these uncomplicated abstract frames the colours dance within the pictorial space. I present colour at overdose levels in order to intensify and maintain that emotional response.” Not only does Nigel create stunning visual displays, he has also recently been involved in a number of video projects notably, Scottish BAFTA winning short movie ‘Bulb’.
