M.S.O.F. LEGACY CAMPUS

KOGELO, KENYA

Dedicated to Barack Obama’s grandmother, Mama Sarah, this educational facility will act as a campus that cares for children from infancy into adulthood. The campus includes an early childhood development center, primary and secondary schooling, vocational training school, and eventually a hospital. Each structure is uniquely designed to accommodate for the age and amenities that coincide with its correlated user group. This educational environment is designed to support curiosity critical thinking, and collaboration amongst all user groups. The goal is to provide a sustainable approach to strengthening the community, and to ensure the student’s success beyond the classroom.

The walls are made using clay bricks which are a cost effective and suitable material for hot and dry climates due to their thermal inertia. Timber truss roofs slanted at angle aid in the passive heating and cooling of the building as well as defining the identity of each building through unique structural shapes.
