What’s good, SKY fam?!

Or should I say… what’s up, main characters? And no, I didn’t stutter, you really are the main character.

Not feeling like one yet? No stress. That’s exactly why this issue exists.

One thing I can say for sure about SKY is that it’s helped me step into the most confident, unapologetic version of myself, and our biggest goal is to make every girl feel that way too. As we step into the iconic year that is 2026, we want to help you stand out, glow louder, and live your best life, 2016 vibes but upgraded. Think unforgettable moments, bold energy, and choosing you every single time. This issue is all about the main character's energy, confidence, boldness, and just the right amount of drama.

We’ve got Aunty B dropping gems through empowerment coaching, Get the Look serving outfits that will turn heads, Body Beautiful showing you how to feel good from the inside out. And that’s not even the half of it: playlists, interviews, tips, tricks… the works. Honestly? I’m obsessed already.

But beyond all of that, I just want to say this: congrats to you.

Congrats on being a SKYgirl. Congrats on choosing to stay true to yourself. Because what is a main character if not someone who fully owns who they are, does things others might cringe at, and stands firm in what they believe in? If that’s not the main character behaviour, then I don’t want the title either. I hope this issue helps guide you toward becoming the truest, boldest, and most confident version of yourself. But don’t forget just by being here, just by opening this page, and just by choosing to be your authentic self… You already are the main character. And that’s on period. With that, I’m out.

What’s on your main character playlist?

Main Ch aracterEnerg y Rules

SK Y Girls Edition

Main Character Energy is that quiet but loud confidence where someone moves through life like the story actually belongs to them. It’s not about perfection, popularity, or looking good for the internet. It’s about being the grounded baddest badodo, intentional, and unbothered, living in a way your future self will thank you for. It’s less “look at me” and more “watch how I move”.

Here’s how SKY Girls do it

Choose

Yourself

(Every Single Time)

You don’t need permission to put yourself first. Main Character Energy starts when you start honouring what you want, need, and deserve. Be selfish when it comes to you and your boundaries.

Protect Your Peace Like It’s Sacred

Not every argument deserves your energy. Not every opinion deserves your attention. Learn when to step back, log off, or say “no” without explaining yourself. Peace is power. NO is a full sentence.

Set Boundaries with Friends and Boys

Boundaries aren’t rude, they’re self-respect. Whether it’s saying no to pressure, drama, or situations that don’t feel right, clear boundaries help people treat you better (and show you who truly respects you). Knowing what’s not your thing helps set boundaries.

Speak Kindly to Yourself

Pay attention to how you talk to yourself especially when you mess up. Confidence grows where kindness lives, the tongue has power so speak well about yourself.

Stop Comparing, Start Living

Comparison is the thief of joy. Social media can get in your head, it shows highlights, not real life. Take breaks when you need to and focus on your own journey, you’re not behind, you’re on your own timeline.

Stay Smoke-Free for Your Future Self

Main Character Energy means thinking long-term. Saying no to smoking (including smokeless tobacco products) protects your health, your confidence, and your clarity. Your future deserves a strong body and a clear mind.

That’s SKY Girls Main Character Energy: real, grounded, confident, and future-focused. And the best part? You already have it, just embrace it.

CASUAL ELEVATED

CORPORATE

PREPPY

This one’s for the girls who know they’re the boss. Casual corporate blends structure with cool, combining classic staples like collared shirts, blazers, and heels with relaxed, modern elements. It’s con dence, styled. In this look, we went for a sleeveless blazer top paired with boyfriend jeans for e ortless balance. To really push that main-character energy, we added a waist chain and statement jewellery, proof that power dressing doesn’t have to be boring.

Fashion is personal, style is what you make it, but it should represent your personality. What look are you doing to represent you? Share with us on our socials.

If you’re stepping out, you might as well step out like the main character. From dark and daring to playful and powerful, these three bold aesthetics are guaranteed to turn heads and let your personal style shine.

THE FEMME FATALE BOHEMIAN Y2K

This look is all about mystery, con dence, and unapologetic femininity. Characterised by dark, feminine tones like black, deep wine red, and rich purples, the Femme Fatale aesthetic embraces elegant, form- tting silhouettes while keeping things re ned and classy. Think dresses that hug the body, sleek tailoring, and luxe textures. For this look, we styled a velvet black dress with knee-high boots and layered it with a leather jacket for an edge of attitude. Accessories can be kept minimal for a polished nish, or dialled up with bold statement pieces if you’re ready to command the room.

Imagine slim, low-rise silhouettes and vibrant, colourful tees colliding with a whimsical, earth-girl spirit that’s Bohemian Y2K. This aesthetic thrives on contrast: playful yet grounded, nostalgic yet fresh. To achieve this look, opt for low-rise bottoms paired with a form-hugging, colourful top. The key is accessories and lots of them. Stack chunky bangles, oversized beads, and eye-catching jewellery. A quirky shoe, tiny bag, and bold makeup take the look to the next level. Here, we paired an orange top with low-rise flared pants and chunky jewellery for maximum impact.

Avocado season, yass!

Avocados are rich in healthy monounsaturated fats that keep your skin soft and hydrated. They’re also high in vitamin E, strengthens the skin barrier and helps reduce dryness and irritation. Bonus?

Avocados support brain function, improve learning, and help regulate moodglow and good vibes in one bite.

Avocado Berries

Berries may be small, but they’re powerful. They are packed with antioxidants, that protect your body from free radicals that cause aging, inflammation, and uneven skin tone. They also help improve skin hydration and brightness.

Eggs

Eggs are rich in protein and biotin, which are essential for strong hair, skin, and nails. They also contain choline, a nutrient that supports memory and mood. Yes for strong hair and a happy mood! Try combining avocado on toast with a boiled, poached or fried egg - yum and powerful.

(Blueberries, Strawberries, Raspberries)

Let’s be real: real main-character energy starts from the inside. What you eat directly a ects how your skin glows, how strong your hair and nails are, your energy levels, and even your mood. Science backs this up: the right nutrients help your body repair itself, ght inflammation, and stay balanced.

So the real question is: are you eating foods that help you look good and feel good?

Leafy Greens

Leafy greens are packed with vitamins A and C, and iron. These nutrients support collagen production (for firm and youthful skin), improve circulation, and help fight fatigue and low moods. Have greens with every meal. You can Bestie! Hydration is non-negotiable. Water improves skin texture, reduces puffiness, and keeps your body functioning at its best. If plain water feels boring, add lemon, cucumber, mint, or berries for flavour.

Glow Tip:

Turmeric

Turmeric is more than just a spice, it’s a skin and gut superhero. It contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound. Inflammation can show up as acne, dull skin, bloating, or fatigue. Adding turmeric to your meals, tea, or warm milk (with a pinch of black pepper to help absorption) can help calm your body, support digestion, and boost immunity.

You don’t need perfection. Consistency is key. Add a few of these foods into your routine and let your glow grow naturally. And remember, all this works even better when you’re smoke-free (including chewing tobacco).

The Real MVP: Water
(Spinach, Rape, Chibwabwa)

Juvi

Chadzanso Justina Mwenda, popularly known as Juvi, you might recognise her as Becky from Tikula, is a Zambian award-winning actress whose journey has stretched from Lusaka to Lagos and beyond. With over two decades in lm and the creative arts, Juvi has carried Zambian stories onto international stages, proving that local dreams can travel far.

Rooted in purpose, passion, and pride in her culture, this letter is for the girl she once was the one who believed, even when the path ahead was unclear.

When people talk about ‘main character energy,’ it can sound like it’s just about being loud, popular, or always looking perfect online. But real main character energy is much deeper than that. It’s about quietly deciding: ‘I belong in my life, just as I am.’ Even if you feel nervous. Even if other people seem more con dent.

Main Character Energy

The you’regirl becoming

It’s about learning to feel good being you, not a copy of someone else. Imagine if every female musician in Zambia tried to sing and rap exactly like Bombshell. They’d mess up what makes them stand out, and all their music would be the same. Your uniqueness is what makes you special. You have your own vibe, and that’s your power.

Stop Shrinking to Fit In

A lot of girls try to ‘shrink’ to feel accepted. You might be doing it too, without even noticing:

Shrinking your voice:

You have something to say, but keep it in.

Shrinking your style:

You wear or do what’s ‘normal’ instead of what feels like you.

Shrinking your dreams:

You say ‘maybe’ when your heart says ‘YES.’

Main character energy doesn’t mean acting full of yourself. It means giving yourself permission to take up space. To be seen. To be you. Next time you feel like shrinking, ask:

‘What would I do if I trusted myself just 10% more?’

That small question can change your whole perspective. Being brave a little bit every day builds real con dence over time.

Try These 3 Daily Habits to Build Real Con dence:

1 2 3

Talk to yourself like you would to your best friend.

If your brain is always saying ‘Ndine o pwalala,’ you’ll start to believe it. Try this instead:

‘I’m learning.’

‘I’m guring things out.’

‘I can feel nervous and still try.’

Don’t be your own bully. Be your own cheerleader.

Set one small boundary this week.

Boundaries are just clear ways of saying what’s okay and what’s not. They aren’t rude, they’re respectful. Try saying:

‘I’m not okay with that.’

‘Please don’t say things like that to me.’

‘I need a break.’

Do something brave, even if you’re scared.

Con dence isn’t about never being afraid. It’s about doing the thing even when you’re scared. Like: Raising your hand in class. Speaking up in a group.

Posting your art, or your voice, or your idea.

You’ll feel shaky, then proud. That’s how you build self-trust, one brave step at a time.

Girls Around You Already Have Main Character Energy

You don’t have to be famous to have it. Look around Zambia (or your school or family), and you’ll see girls and women being bold in their own ways:

Monica Musonda builds big things and leads with con dence.

Lulu Haangala Wood uses her voice and shows up, even when people have opinions.

Sampa the Great turns her creativity into art that travels.

And what about that girl in your class who’s focused, kind, and true to herself? Yup, that’s main character energy too.

Main character energy isn’t about being perfect. It’s a practice. You don’t need to be louder or more popular or look a certain way.

You just need to be more you.

And guess what?

You’re already on your way.

MEET THE COVER GIRL

Our Cover Girl is giving major main character energyeet

Lenience Mwansa

Who are you?

My name is Lenience. I’m currently in Grade 12 at Olympia Park Secondary School. I’m a girl who strongly believes in the potential of women and girls in society and that we deserve to be treated the same as boys and men. That belief is one of the main reasons I joined SKY.

What are your things?

Resilience, being unapologetically me, environmental conservation, journaling and music.

What’s not your thing?

Littering, arguments, inequality

What’s your dream for the future?

I hope to become a surgeon one day while staying actively involved in environmental issues.

What do you love about being a SKY girl?

Being a SKY Girl has been an amazing experience for me. I’ve met incredible people, gained confidence, learned how to say no, and faced my fear of failure. SKY has given me a space to grow, be myself, and feel empowered, and that’s something I’ll always be grateful for.

Why did you take part in the competition, and what was your experience on set?

I took part in the competition because I have always dreamed of being on the cover of the magazine, and this was my fifth time participating. When I finally won, I was completely shocked and overjoyed because I honestly wasn’t sure if my letter would be good enough. The win reminded me that perseverance truly pays off.

My experience on set was absolutely amazing. The team made me feel so comfortable from the moment I arrived. I loved my makeup and the bangles—they gave such a beautiful vintage look. I really had so much fun, especially being surrounded by other girls. The whole experience is something I’ll always cherish. I encourage other girls to keep trying, who knows, they could be the next cover girl.

NATA SHA MHA NGO

The Storytelling Que en Translating Big Ide as into Powerful Stories

With over 17 years of experience, Natasha Mhango turns words, ideas, and photos into stories that help people learn and grow.

Natasha is a Knowledge Management and Communications specialist working in agriculture, where she helps share important information across Zambia. A knowledge and communications specialist collects information, writes stories, and shares ideas so people know what to do and why it matters.

What do you love about your job?

I love travelling. It does get tiring, but seeing new places and meeting new people from di erent cultures gives me the new experiences I crave in life. I am naturally curious.

Why did you pick this career? Firstly, I am a total bookworm and I love to write.

What was your educational journey to get here?

I nished my primary school at Lake Road, then went to St Mary’s. After that, in tenth grade, I was selected to go to David Kaunda and eventually UNZA, where I studied Mass Communication. Then later I got a master's in Public Administration.

What advice do you have for teen girls who would like to follow your career path?

Work on your writing and photography skills, practice really matters. Share your work, talk to people, and don’t be afraid to learn from others. Hone your ability to pay attention to trends and try new things early. Also don’t fear mistakes — that’s how you grow and get better.

Favourite Quote:

What skills/quali cations do you need for your work?

Studying communication subjects like journalism, public relations, or media really helps. But skills matter too. Being a good listener is important; when you listen more, you learn more. Reading and researching also matter because you need to understand things properly, not just believe everything you hear.

What’s the best career decision you’ve ever made?

Growing from journalism to becoming a communication specialist. It really helped broaden my career choices and experiences. “All that you are is a result of what you thought”, by Buddha. It feeds into Henry Ford’s quote that says, “whether you think you can, or you cannot – you are right”

Boys&Bants: Texting Decoded

Boys&Bants: Texting Decoded

Ever wondered what’s really going on in the texting game with these boys? We got the tea straight from the boys themselves and of course, we’re sharing it with you. From dry replies to being left on read, here’s what those texting habits actually mean and how to handle them with full main character energy.

The Boys Tell All

Dry Replies “I’m not

really

feeling

it.”

If his replies are super short like “yeah,” “cool,” or “same,” and he’s not asking questions back, he might not be that interested in keeping the conversation going. And that’s okay! Not everyone is going to match your vibe. Instead of trying harder, take a step back. The right person won’t make you carry the whole conversation alone.

Late-Night “You Up?” Texts

Why is he silent all day but suddenly remembers you at night? Yeah… no. That’s not cute, that’s suspicious. Block him, babe. You don’t need that energy around you.

Leaving You on Read / Not Prioritising You

Sometimes we need to stop lying to ourselves. It’s not always that he’s “busy”, sometimes he just doesn’t want to talk - to you. Most people have their phones on them all day, so if he can’t take two seconds to reply? Girl, nope. Detach, protect your peace, and move on.

Always Talking About His Ex

If he constantly brings up his ex or calls her “crazy” run. She probably wasn’t crazy, or he made her that way. Either way, he’s clearly not over her and will end up comparing you to her. And we don’t do that. Remember, you are the main character.

Breadcrumbing

Flirty texts here and there, then disappearing for days? Yeah, you’re not the only one he’s doing that to. He’s keeping you around for his own bene t, and chances are, he’s not going to change. Find your exit, girl.

“I’m Not Ready for a Relationship”

What he really means is: he’s not ready for a relationship with you. And no, you’re not going to change his mind. Don’t stay hoping he will — he won’t. Once you end things, he’ll probably be in a relationship with someone else within months. Harsh, but true. Once you hear those words? Run.

Here’s the Truth, SKY Babes

You already know what’s meant for you and what’s not. If they’re not matching your energy, either match theirs or dip. Stop overthinking, start choosing yourself, and own your game. Flip the script.

STUDY SMARTER NOT HARDER

STUDY TIPS 101

Hey SKY besties, we know that sometimes preparing for exams may feel overwhelming or chaotic but don’t stress. With the right strategy, you can become a chargie! You can study smarter, not harder, and still score. We’ve got three simple but powerful ways to prepare e ectively for your exams.

Plan Your Study Strategy 1

(Study What Brings the Most Marks)

Before you jump into revision, pause and plan. Start by listing all the main topics and subtopics in your syllabus. Once you have your list, divide the topics into two groups: strong topics (those you understand well) and weak topics (those you struggle with).

Next, gather all your past exam papers and go through them carefully. Pay attention to how questions are asked. You’ll quickly notice that examiners often repeat similar question styles. There are only so many ways a question can be asked!

Make a simple list showing how many times each topic appears in past papers. Topics that appear frequently are high-value topics and should be prioritised, especially if they fall under your weak areas. This approach helps you focus your time and energy where it matters most and avoids wasting time on low-priority areas.

Use

Spaced Repetition to Remember More

Spaced repetition is a powerful study method that helps information stick in your memory. Instead of cramming, review your material over time.

A simple formula you can try is:

Study the topic on Day 1

Review it again on Day 4 or 5

Review it once more on Day 14

Each time you revisit the topic, focus on understanding it better rather than memorising blindly. As your understanding improves, you can spend more time practising questions instead of rereading notes. If you have about a month before your exams, spaced repetition ts perfectly into your study plan.

Use the Right Study Materials 2 3 at the Right Time

Knowing what to study from is just as important as knowing what to study. Identify your core materials, such as prescribed textbooks, modules, or teacher’s notes that fully cover the syllabus.

If a topic feels confusing, don’t panic. Supplement your reading with YouTube videos or online explanations that break things down in a simpler way. Sometimes hearing someone explain a concept di erently makes everything click.

That’s it babes, plan wisely, revise regularly, and use the right resources. With this approach, exam preparation becomes more organised, less stressful, and far more e ective. Good luck, you got this!

How can I handle a trio kind of friendship when I feel left out?

SKY Girls Community

If I start feeling left out in our trio, I check in with myself first. Understanding why it hurts helps me decide whether to speak up or let it slide. - Tracy

Sometimes, my friends don’t realize I feel left out. I gently let them know how I feel — saying something like, “I’d love to join in too!” — without making it a fight. - Martha

Even if I’m the third wheel sometimes, I focus on doing things that make me happy, like hobbies or other friendships. That way, I’m not defined by feeling left out, and the trio can still stay fun for everyone. - Joyce

Aunty B

Trio friendships can be fun but tricky, especially if you feel left out. Talk to your friends honestly; they might not even realise what they’re doing. Also, focus on strengthening your one-on-one connection with each friend, not just the group dynamic. And remember, your worth isn’t defined by being included 24/7. Spend time with others who make you feel seen, too. It’s okay to branch out and grow your circle.

How can I love myself more?

I love myself more when I look back at my journey and realize how much I’ve grown. Every challenge I’ve faced has made me stronger, more confident, and more aware of my worth. - Chanda

Learning to say no, setting boundaries, and putting my wellbeing first has helped me love myself more. I’ve learned that choosing myself isn’t selfish — it’s necessary. - Ruth

The more I allow myself to be real, imperfect, and honest, the more I appreciate who I am. Loving myself means accepting all parts of me and not shrinking to fit into spaces I’ve outgrown. - Naomi

SKY Girls Community Aunty B

Loving yourself isn’t about feeling it all the time, it’s about showing it in small, everyday ways. Talk to yourself like you would a best friend, keep little promises (like eating well, looking after your mind and body, staying hydrated), and stop trying to ‘earn’ your worth by being perfect. Choose people and spaces that make you feel seen, not small. Celebrate small wins daily, even if it’s just getting out of bed. And when it’s hard, remind yourself: ‘I’m learning to love myself, and that counts.’

How do I improve myself, as a struggling teen, with weakness?

SKY Girls Community

I remind myself that I don’t have to fix everything at once. Picking one small habit or skill to improve at a time makes growth feel less overwhelming and more doable. - Grace

Struggling doesn’t mean failing — it’s just a chance to learn. I try to reflect on what I could do differently next time, instead of letting my weaknesses define me. - Anna

Having friends, mentors, or even inspiring stories around me helps me keep going. I know I don’t have to be perfect to grow, and asking for help is actually a strength. - Deborah

Aunty B

Like the SKY girls community said, improving yourself isn’t about being perfect, it’s about becoming the next best version of you, one step at a time. I don’t know what your ‘weakness’ is, but even the best athletes and professionals still practice every day. Growth takes effort, not perfection. And remember: the way you speak about yourself shapes how you see yourself. So instead of calling yourself a ‘struggling teen,’ try this: ‘I’m a teen who chooses to keep showing up, learning, and working toward a better, stronger, happier version of who I’m becoming.’ That mindset alone is powerful.

How can I remain authentic while trying to t in during university life?

SKY Girls Community

University comes with a lot of new people and pressure, but I always go back to my values, my interests, and what feels right to me. Fitting in shouldn’t mean losing yourself — the right people will appreciate you as you are. - Chloe

Instead of trying to be liked by everyone, I focus on building genuine friendships. I’ve learned that it’s okay to say no and set boundaries. Being authentic attracts people who actually understand and respect you. - Taizya

University is about growth, not pretending. I let myself try new things while staying true to my beliefs and personality. Growth should feel like an upgrade, not a disguise. - Faith Daka

Uni can feel like a whole new world, especially if you’re far from home. To stay true to yourself while still being able to fit in, start by knowing your core. What matters to you, and what you’re there to build. Choose people, not just crowds, because real friends won’t expect you to shrink or pretend to be someone you’re not. Try new things and enjoy the freedom, but if something feels off, trust that feeling. A quick gut-check that always helps: Would I still do this if no one was watching? Remember, growing doesn’t mean losing yourself, and fitting in should never come at the cost of who you are and what you believe in.

A cute t! I’m a girly girl, if I look stunning and my day just flows right. I’m just such a fashion enthusiast
