The design aims to promote health and fitness, the Pedestrian walkways system, is a an approach to tackling the various economic and environmental issues. The program consists of three main sections, including: the spatial strategy to support a well-organized network connecting different pedestrian units; the development control to promote good pedestrian environment in each unit; and the design guidance to encourage comfortable and walkable pedestrian facilities as general standard for all the units.

SHAPE ITERATION The massing was inspired by the shape of a sparrow, with the idea to mimic the flapping wings and its sharp features. unlike a static design the structure intends to be in motion.

Hybrid Roof Design The roof consists of a hybrid design of green + solar roof. The design incorporates all the basic benefits of a green roof including reduced temperature, improved air quality, recycling and filtering rainwater. The green roof and solar roof are placed in a manner where the plants deflect the absorbed solar radiation towards the solar panel. This helps to improve the solar panels functionality and lowers the chances of overheating. Thus, the design significantly lowers the power consumption.

1.
CONTEXT + COMMUNITY Union City is culturally diverse and includes a large number of minorities. We wanted occupants to celebrate and share cultures together and showcase their differences and similarities. We decided that an embroidery maker space and kitchen maker space would do that.
35
FRONT VIEW 36
2.
SELF SUSTAINING MAKER SPACE We believe that these maker spaces are best fit for our site and Union City because of the anchor of our site, Bergenline Avenue. Bergenline Avenue is a shop street that runs through most of Union City, it hosts numerous businesses, specifically clothing stores and restaurants. The idea is that these maker spaces will be a place to learn, gain experience and develop economic selfsufficiency.
