This handout provides informa on for lute um-177 prostate specific membrane an gen therapy

and destroys them. Thus, it delivers the radioac ve material directly to the areas where the cancer

4-6 cycles depending on clinical response to treatment. The dose is injected over 2-5 minutes. You may also receive prescrip ons for medica ons to help you avoid nausea or vomi ng. Your referring doctor recommended this treatment to manage your metasta c prostate cancer because you meet the following qualifica ons: Tumor is inoperable (cannot be treated with surgery) You must have adequate bone marrow and kidney func on, and general mobility (can handle self-care and not immobile or using a wheelchair) to receive this treatment If treatment becomes toxic to your kidney or bone marrow, we will reduce your treatment dose or delay your treatment If these toxici es persist, it may be necessary to discon nue treatment No fy your therapy team if you have urinary incon nence Is there any special prepara on for this treatment? You will be seen in the nuclear medicine clinic with prescrip on to assess suitability for therapy. Blood tests will be done approximately 2 weeks before therapy, such as kidney func on and blood counts, before star ng treatment and before each subsequent therapy.
