SUCCESS STORY I was studying electrical engineering in Peshawar when I was faced with cancer. It happened without warning. My first symptoms were excruciating pain in legs and back, along with weight loss. After a medical check up I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for which I received chemotherapy and radiation treatment in my hometown, Peshawar. However my disease relapsed after a while and I was referred to Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore.

It was an extremely difficulty time. I was not only burdened by the ailment and its difficult treatment, but the foreboding about financial burden weighed heavily on me. It was an overwhelming relief when I was told that Shaukat Khanum Hospital had a policy of free treatment for needy patients – and that I was eligible for it!
I was told that I would be the first patient to undergo stem cell transplant at Shaukat Khanum, which made me nervous, but with a strong faith in God and destiny I decided to take my chances. It was in the months of March and April 2006 that I entered the most critical part of my treatment. It was a five day procedure and each day was like reaching out for life, which seemed within reach, one moment, and slipping away the other. But in the end life overcame death and the treatment was pronounced a success. Now I plan on going back to my studies and achieving my goal of becoming an electrical engineer, and enjoying this beautiful life whose value I have discovered once again. I will forever remain thankful to the Hospital and pray for the generosity of people who support this noble cause.
