Construction of New Operation Theatres The construction of four new operation theatres in Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Lahore is in process. The First new operation theatre will start functioning in a few months and all four will be operational within the next few years, taking the total to 8 theatres. It will significantly enhance the capacity to perform more s u r g i c a l procedures. At p r e s e n t SKMCH&RC has four modern operation theatres. In the last two decades, the burden of patients has increased considerably and the operation theatre surgeons and anaesthetists have to work late in the evenings and over the weekends to cope with the workloads. The opening of these

new theatres will greatly improve the quality of the service the Hospital provides to its patients and will also mean less onerous working hours for the staff.

These theatres will have the ability

to operate with the highest standard of equipment and resources required to carry out safe and advanced surgical procedures.

SKMCH&RC will also be opening its first modular operation theatre for advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Complex laparoscopic surgical

procedures have been performed at SKMCH&RC for the last few years.

The benefits of such procedures include not only smaller scars, but significantly reduced pain, rapid recovery and discharge which eventually reduce the demand for in-patient beds.

W i t h laparoscopic surgery, it is now possible to operate on parts of the body which w e r e n o t amenable to conventional surgery. With the addition of this new modular laparoscopic operation theatre, the surgeons will be able to perform more complex procedures in a much shorter duration, which will further enhance our operating capacity.

The completion of these new operating theatres are part of the Hospital's commitment to continue to enhance and expand its services.

Musa was just four years old when we noticed a gradual decline in his health. He would often complain of abdominal pain and at times nausea as well. One day the pain became unbearable and we rushed him to a local hospital where the doctor diagnosed him with acute appendicitis. He was operated on immediately but after a few weeks, his condition still did not improve.

The doctor suspected that Musa's intestines were entangled so he underwent another operation. It was then that the doctor broke the devastating news that Musa was suffering from a cancer called Burkitt's Lymphoma. He said that it was at a stage where there were little chances of survival. The thought that Musa may not get the chance to celebrate his fifth birthday was treacherous. But we had to do something. It was then that a doctor advised us to take him to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital.

We immediately brought him to the Hospital where he was inducted for treatment. The experienced and qualified consultants were hopeful that Musa's could be treated even at this advanced stage. Hope was all we needed at that point and our days began to grow brighter. The eighteen month treatment was intensive however Musa bravely pulled through each phase of the treatment.

We were satisfied to know that our beloved son was in safe hands. He was being given the best treatment available in the world at that point in time and that too free of cost.

Musa is now ten years old and growing stronger with each passing day. He has rejoined school with the motivation to become a doctor and help save the lives of children just like himself.

In an effort to extend its services to people near their hometown, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust opened the fourth Walk-in Clinic of Pakistan, in Multan.

Like the other Walk-in Clinics in Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi, this Walk-in Clinic in Multan will also be offering consultation and examination facilities to patients free of cost. The Clinic is expected to facilitate the patients in southern Punjab and Baluchistan. Patients who meet the medical criteria for the induction of cancer patients at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer

The Inauguration Ceremony of the Shaukat Khanum Walk-in Clinic – Multan was held at the site (Hameed Motors Building, 319-Sher Shah Road, Multan) on July 13, 2014. The event was attended by a large number of donors and supporters of the region. They appreciated the efforts of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust in extending its services to Multan and reaffirmed their resolve to continue their support.

PIA Joins Hands to Save Cancer Patients The corporate sector of Pakistan has over the years rendered its support for the treatment of poor cancer patients as an integral part of its corporate s o c i a l r e s p o n s i b i l i t y. Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre is once again providing Online Qurbani service to facilitate its donors and supporters across the world by providing them easy, hassle-free, safe and healthy Qurbani services on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

We have selected reputable slaughter houses that will provide healthy goats & cows and will also ensure that the slaughtering services are rendered in the required manner. You can select a complete animal for slaughter, or part(s) out of the seven designated in a cow.

You can place your online order or deposit cash/cheques at the Hospital, our local and overseas Regional Offices or Collection Centres all over Pakistan. Meat from the Qurbani will be distributed to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) and flood affectees in different parts of Pakistan. All proceeds from the sale of leather skins will be utilised for the treatment of poor cancer patients at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.
