Stop putting the brakes on your life. That yellow caution light? Disable it for a while. Go full speed ahead on a project that seems pointless. Yes, you can learn to read music just for fun. Yes, you can write the book you think no one will buy. Yes, you can stop stalling and look for a new job.

Worry less about crashing and more about being stuck in cruise control. Recant “can’t.” What if you never step out of line? Never gamble your peace of mind? Never trouble the world? Life will just climb through the window if you try to lock the door on it. It wants your Yes, your Now, your Full Monty. Out there, you’ll find danger and dragons, detours and disappointments, but it’s also full of magic and miracles, joy and juice. Go get some. Cover copy by Nikki Hardin, art by Skopein

Dating solutions for Charleston’s Christian

Singles

I am asked all the time, “How do I find other quality, compatible, Christian singles who want a meaningful relationship?”

I

sympathize with Christian singles in the Charleston area, as there are very few methods to meet someone that is compatible, wants the same things from life that you do, and shares similar values,” says Heather Olson, Director of Romance for ChristianSinglesDate.org, Charleston’s oldest, and most respected traditional match making firm. “So many people resort to the internet these days, which brings about so many obstacles, from safety to whether or not the person is even single! Studies have shown that close to 38% of internet profiles are from married people, or people already in a serious relationship.” ChristianSinglesDate.org avoids these hassles by personally meeting with each potential member beforehand, not only to get to know their personality and desires, but to keep it safe for our current members by performing background checks. “Our service is not for

everyone,” says Mrs. Olson. “If you’re in the market just to ‘date’ and hang out with as many people as you can, with no real goals in mind, our service is not for you.” Don’t think everyone who comes to see us is ready for the altar either, however they definitely want a good, wholesome, loving, monogamous relationship. Too many people just don’t know where they are, or what they want out of life. As unfortunate as this may be, ChristianSinglesDate.org cannot subject our members to an individual with little focus or direction in regards to their love life, and this one of the top aspects of what we do, and what our members appreciate. Our service is selective and we work with you one-on-one to assist you in getting a clearer vision of what you are looking for, and preparation to move forward in meeting other compatible singles.

If you’re exhausted with the internet, or simply looking for a safer, more time-efficient way to find someone special, then take a moment to consider ChristianSinglesDate.org, and call one of our Relationship Specialists today.

Call 843.405.7848 or visit www.ChristianSinglesDate.org skirt!magazine

Find your sense of

A-D-V-E-N-T-U-R-E As simple as opening a book. Or closing a chapter.

Do people still fly around the world in hot air balloons?

Very funny, I get it now. We’re inside adventure! Exciting times to be alive.

Never say “I can’t,” “I won’t ever,” or “it’s not possible.” Time to buy roller skates, fly a kite or have an exotic vinegar-tasting party.

Usually an adventure is an undertaking that is bold. Risky. Exciting. May is the month to do something you can’t believe you did.

Honey-Lemon

Crostini

Each bottle of Fentimans Victorian lemonade contains juice from one and a half lemons!

Fentimans Ginger Beer is all natural and has a sharp ginger flavor which makes it a perfect mixer.

Beat the heat with a Gin Shandy pitcher for your party—it’s easily prepared ahead of time so your friends can start sipping while they assemble a crostini to their tastes. Plus, stopping to make each one individually curbs the urge to eat all the ricotta in sight. (Been there, done that.) Spicy, fresh Fentimans Ginger Beer and Victorian Lemonade make a bubbly base while the gin gets the gang giggling. Served with fresh lemon, the summery shandy compliments the slightly sweet and creamy ricotta crostini when it’s drizzled with honey, olive oil and topped with a little lemon zest.

Christian Senger is the Holy City’s angel of information. The blogger behind Holy City Sinner has, until now, enjoyed relative anonymity. But donning a skirt doesn’t faze him because, for Christian, it’s still about the readers. “Whether a particular event interests me or not isn’t important, what matters is that there are so many things going on in the city and plenty of people who might not know about it otherwise.” His blog runs the gamut from local news to upcoming events, celeb sightings and a catch-all of Charleston’s rankings in national lists. But getting into Charleston’s stories is what tugs at his not-so-sinful heartstrings. “I love watching people talk passionately about something they believe in and following them through the entire process. ” Keep up at holycitysinner.com. What do you like about skirt! Magazine? “It’s not like the typical women’s magazine, which is perfect for a city full of successful, creative, and brilliant women who don’t want what’s typical.” What do you like about wearing a skirt? “It was really easy to move around in and was much lighter than the pants or shorts I always wear.”

We had decided at the last minute to go to Vatican City. After we stood queued for over an hour, I noticed several signs outside the entrance of St. Peter’s Basilica. Each sign displayed the

massive circular colonnade, an architectural form wrapping arms around its thousands of visitors—but not adequate coverage for someone in a sleeveless dress. Allison Foster creates adventurous opportunities.

Always optimistic, Allison takes every opportunity to encourage women to step out of their ho-hum routines with diverse programming at Charleston County’s parks. “Women are natural re-inventers: Careers, marriage, divorce, motherhood, we do it all. Exercise is the one thing we can do for ourselves that benefits everyone else around us, too. Combining exercise with the great outdoors and taking on new adventures magnifies the experience—and the benefits.” And although she’s been on the run since eighth grade, Allison knows that there’s a first time for everyone. “Just starting out? Just get started, it’s never too late. You are never too old, too out of shape to begin. Take it one small step at a time. Set realistic goals. We fall down. We get back up. It happens all the time. When we women apply our natural aptitude for re-invention to fitness, we lay the foundation for a happier, healthier lifestyle.”

Kathie Livingston urges women to make waves.

What started out with just 8 kayaks and a pickup truck in 1999 has now grown to a 150-kayak operation that also boasts paddleboards, canoes, hiking excursions and international retreats. Much of Nature Adventure Outfitters’ rising tide can be attributed to Kathie, who’s been steering the proverbial boat since the first days. Today Kathie often leads others on life-changing adventures—ranging from overnights on Capers Island complete with survival skills to Costa Rican expeditions through rainforests and among volcanoes. “The last trip to Costa Rica we had women in their 20s and in their 70s—we have activity levels for all comfort zones. Many have never zip-lined or even ridden a horse and once they do, they love that they ‘did it.’” And Kathie especially loves it when their annual adventures become a family affair. “These women come from all walks of life.  Inter-generational are my favorite, when grandma, mom and a daughter come along to enjoy this experience together.”

Take it from patient, Nicole Capalbo: Dr. Sarah changed my life. She worked to treat the cause not just mask the symptoms. With her help, I now have my life back!

An upper cervical correction is gentle. There is no forceful pulling, twisting or jerking motion of your neck.

The correction is applied using a precise and controlled touch that allows the head, neck and spine to return to their proper positions.

“Where good taste meets good health.”

“How can I make my own Vitamin C spray?” If you’re coated in chlorine from the pool, track down cheap vitamin C crystals at Whole Foods or a health and wellness store. Are my flip flops faulty? Answer:They could be harmful to your hoof health. The thong between your toes causes them to grip the shoe and could cause tendinitis or blisters, while lack of cushion could lead to stress fractures. The structure alters your walking style, which can create ankle, knee, hip and back pain and problems. If breaking up with your flip flops is not an option, at least replace them every three to four months, and only wear them for short periods of time.

My boots are constantly itching to find the perfect place to live. Like Goldilocks, I’m always looking for “just right.” A place I’d recognize instantly, where I’d feel at home in my body, at peace in my soul, at one with the landscape. It’s not that I think my life would be better elsewhere, but that I’d finally belong somewhere. But this yearning seems to me innately human. Aren’t we always scanning the horizon, straining to catch a glimpse of heaven? When it’s probably the ground under our feet and the people we carry in our hearts, no matter where we are.
