BUSINESSES WHO GIVE BACK

Every year we honor those businesses who are the People’s Choice. More than standing out in the business community, these are the people who are committed to our community beyond their success. They are investing in all that makes Skiatook a great place to live and work, and in turn, the community honors their integrity, their loyalty and the unseen ways they play a part in our daily lives.

Giacomo’s Vineyard Park It

Giacomo’s Vineyard & Event Center opened its doors in 2020. This was a dream of Paul & Tooter Baker’s and while it originally opened as an Event Center, it has grown very quickly, yet organically, over the last few years

Paul comes from a long line of winemakers in California and he aimed to share his expertise by crafting wine from Oklahomagrown grapes

Situated on their homestead, Giacomo’s opened the event center to the Skiatook community It was not only needed but brought a breath of fresh air with it It is different from the small venues that the community had had in the past It is set out in the countryside, but not too far The aesthetics blend an industrial charm with a wine ambiance, complemented by stunning vineyard views just outside the windows. The entire time the Baker’s have been showcasing their venue, they had been working diligently on Phase II of their business... the vineyard.

In 2024, Paul, Tooter and family successfully harvested their first grapes for production. They not only produce, but they process, bottle and sell their own Oklahoma wine right here in Skiatook. Additionally, they have expanded their event space to include wine tours and tastings, enhancing Giacomo’s as a whole and providing the community with a unique experience

Skiatook is Tooter’s hometown and she is dedicated to giving back Whether it is dedicating her own time to serve on the Chamber Board of Directors, allowing the event space to be a place to host community events or simply granting the local 4H Chapter use of the space for their monthly meetings, she & Paul remain committed to supporting their community

Park It opened their doors in 2023. While from the outside it looks as if it is a snack shop located in Skiatook Central Park, it boasts much more than that from the inside Owned and operated by Wade and Shannon Althouse, they bring a whole new layer to the typical ‘snack shack’

Park It offers snacks and yard games, that can be rented for a very minimal fee to park goers This not only enhances their experience but brings more awareness to certain areas of Central Park that may go unnoticed All of Park It’s employees are teens better known as Difference Makers

These Difference Makers encourage park visitors to contribute to the park in which they play in They do this by encouraging others to pick up trash, be a helper and encourage kindness If caught being good, the park goers can redeem their good act for a sweet treat.

While Althouse would like to turn a small profit in her business venture, her heart lies within the next generation. Shannon is assisting in teaching the park goers how to be responsible, caring, humans of our community. They may receive a sweet treat for their small act of kindness, but most importantly it shows that someone is watching, taking notice and appreciative of their gestures

Wade and Shannon's vision for Park It continues to evolve, but their core mission remains the same: to create a space where everyone feels valued and inspired to make a positive impact Through their dedication and the enthusiastic participation of the Difference Makers, Park It has become more than just a snack shop; it's a beacon of kindness and community in the heart of Skiatook Central Park

BUSINESSES WHO

Skiatook Arts Center

The Skiatook Arts Center has seen an extraordinary change within the last couple of years Skiatook Native, Lauren McKuin, made her way back to her hometown and has poured her heart and soul into the small center

At any given time you can find the Skiatook Arts Center hosting art shows, classes and/or parties. Not only has this brought back the love for the arts, and our local artists, but it has sparked a new light as well.

McKuin has worked diligently to build bridges with the local school district to not only get the younger generation involved in the arts but to include and bring awareness to their talent. She does this by collaborating and hosting shows strictly for their work Lauren not only opens the doors to the Arts Center but embraces whatever idea is thrown at her She then goes full force to make that idea a successful reality To add to the list of things McKuin has done to bring awareness of the arts to Skiatook, she has collaborated with many friends on community events, one of which is Skiatook Arts Fest

The impact of McKuin's efforts is evident in the renewed enthusiasm and involvement of Skiatook's residents The Arts Center has become a hub for creativity and connection, fostering a sense of pride and unity within the community Through her dedication and passion, Lauren McKuin has not only revitalized the Skiatook Arts Center but has also ignited a cultural renaissance in her hometown, ensuring that the arts will continue to thrive for generations to come.
