The Festival’s 35th anniversary marks the conclusion of Elinor Freer and David Ying’s decade as artistic directors. Early season performers—including Joseph Genualdi, Curtis Macomber, and Robert Weirich—return for Grieg’s Violin Sonata No. 3 and Brahms’ String Sextet No. 2. The Fireworks Ensemble headlines a Brook Farm concert featuring a display over the lawn. Freer and Ying’s final performance is Kreisler’s Tambourin chinois. The Shanghai Quartet joins Music from China to introduce traditional instruments like the erhu and pipa. During the season, Chamber Music America honors the Festival with the CMAcclaim Award. Additional highlights include Alan Kay and Ran Dank in Yuste’s Vibrations of the Soul and the Brahms Piano Quartet in G minor. ECCO performs Mendelssohn’s String Quintet No. 1, while Time for 3 performs at Brook Farm. ECCO concludes the season with Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings.
