Nature is the season's theme, beginning with soprano Jennifer Aylmer and baritone Randall Scarlata performing songs by Schubert, Verdi, and Bernstein with pianist Laura Ward. The Ying Quartet performs Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” and Verdi’s String Quartet. At St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Anonymous 4 presents works including David Lang’s “the wood and the vine.” Pianist Donal Fox’s “Innovations in Blue” blends classical and jazz. Violinist Hilary Hahn and pianist Cory Smythe perform Auerbach, Schoenberg, Mozart, and Schubert. Fox’s Innovations Trio and Hahn later draw a record-breaking audience of 1,172 for jazz improvisations at Brook Farm. The Eastman Chamber Winds perform music inspired by nature. Finally, A Far Cry presents chamber works by Tůma, Biber, Dvořák, and Schubert, concluding the season at Brook Farm with Stamitz’s Sinfonia and Suk’s Serenade for Strings.
