The Festival introduces pop-up Music Blasts and the Hyperscore II project, where the community composes short pieces. The Chiara Quartet opens the season with works by composer-in-residence Stacy Garrop and ten Hyperscore II compositions. Andrew Russo joins the Chiara Quartet for Dvořák, while the Festival Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Robert Moody, premieres Lee Actor’s Divertimento for Small Orchestra. The Syracuse Vocal Ensemble joins the orchestra and Russo for Beethoven’s Fantasia in C Minor. Members of ECCO perform chamber works and Bartók’s Divertimento at Brook Farm. Debuting artists include So Percussion and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, the latter playing Bizet, Boccherini, and jazz classics. The Marcus Roberts Trio presents jazz in Syracuse and at Brook Farm. Following a solo recital by Jon Nakamatsu, conductor Peter Bay and soprano Sari Gruber conclude with Mozart and Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras for soprano and eight cellos.
