The season opens with Imani Winds drawing a standing-room-only crowd for "Music Is Fun!," followed by the Turtle Island Quartet in Clift Park. Pianist Joel Fan joins Imani Winds for Poulenc’s Sextet, and a large ensemble performs Martinu’s Sextet. At Brook Farm, Turtle Island presents the music of John Coltrane. Robinson Award winner Elizabeth Sutphen performs a prelude concert, while the Miro Quartet plays Schubert, Beethoven, and Schoenberg. Soprano Sari Gruber performs Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with the Festival Chamber Orchestra, and David Higgs gives a Parisian organ recital. Additional highlights include Randall Scarlata singing Schoenberg’s Cabaret Songs and performances of quintets and trios by Franck, Arensky, and Rachmaninoff. Tai Murray features in The Lark Ascending. For the finale, Peter Bay conducts Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, featuring soloists on flute, violin, viola, and harpsichord.
