Local chiropractor’s goal is to make his patients smile
After suffering from a football injury in high school, Brandon Falk’s stepfather took him to see a chiropractor for the first time.
“I was intrigued by how effective that visit was,” said Brandon. “That’s when I decided to become a chiropractor.”
Fast forward to 2004 when he opened Stanwood Family Chiropractic. Brandon has been working with patients for almost 20 years, and the reviews speak volumes:
“It’s hard to find a chiropractor who cares and takes time to listen. Brandon is one of those who cares and isn’t in a rush to get you out the door. I’m so thankful I found him.”
Another patient said, “Brandon is awesome! He has a lot of knowledge and loves
what he does.”
Someone else pointed out how Brandon “takes great pride in what he does.”
Perhaps this last review says it best: “I couldn’t have found a better chiropractor for the whole family. Brandon genuinely cares and wants to help his patients. His approach is gentle but also effective.”
When Brandon meets patients for the first time or even returning patients, his goal is always the same: he wants them to leave his office with a smile on their face.
Brandon shares his chiropractic office with his wife Autumn, a massage therapist and acupuncturist. He is a hands-on business owner who has created a family-friendly environment with flexible scheduling and walk-in visits for existing patients.
“Our business has grown, as has our family and community,” he said.
Stanwood Family Chiropractic patients are always guaranteed to see Brandon
but sometimes may see the office dog Maeve or even the couple’s children, Ryko, Stella, or Olivia.
Stanwood Family Chiropractic is open Monday

Local business cultivates lasting relationships with clients
HIS BIZ HAS BEEN A HOUSEHOLD NAME IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY FOR 30 YEARS.
The company was founded in 1993 and has earned an excellent reputation within Camano Island and surrounding areas.
Owners Justin and Rachael Baldwin grew up in the Pacific Northwest and have lived on Camano Island for most of their lives.
Their family-owned business, HIS BIZ, focuses on interior and exterior house painting, residential remodeling, and renovations.
“We work closely with our customers to ensure a positive experience throughout the entire process,” said Justin. “We’re in constant communication with our clients,
answering all their questions, addressing their concerns, and making sure everything goes according to plan.”
Justin’s background in the construction trades, combined with his attention to detail and exceptional craftsmanship, have resulted in repeat clients and outstanding customer reviews.
HIS BIZ employees and their vast network of experienced subcontractors provide exceptional results while taking great pride in their work. This accounts for their high customer retention rate.
“You don’t usually repaint your house but every 7-15 years, still we get repeat customers constantly,” said Justin. “Even if it’s been a decade, they call me back when it’s time to repaint their house again and for other home improvement projects.”
Camano Island provides picturesque backdrops for their painting and renovation projects, whether it’s on the beach, a high bank bluff or one of the many friendly neighborhoods.
“I’m really proud of our painting projects,” he said. “We get to put the wrapping and the bow on this great
product and hand them over to our customers. It provides real satisfaction when we walk away and look over our shoulder to see our customers waving and smiling. That’s when we see that beautiful gift that we just provided to our customer. It makes all of our efforts very worthwhile.”
The couple’s 20-yearold son, Donovan, has been working for HIS BIZ every summer as a young boy and full-time since he graduated high school. He was recently promoted to manager and is poised to take over the family business within the next three years.
Potential customers can see photographs of HIS BIZ’s completed projects showcased at https://hisbizpainting.com.

Josephine Caring Community mission: One heart and many hands
JOSEPHINE CARING COMMUNITY -- BEST OF STANWOOD 2023 PROFILE STORY J
osephine Caring Community opened on Sept. 27, 1908. The nonprofit organization, affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Churches of America, celebrates its 115th anniversary later this year.
At the turn of the century, Norwegian immigrant John Hals owned a successful shingle mill on the outskirts of Stanwood in the newly established state of Washington. John and his wife Josephine were prominent members of the pioneer community and were active in Stanwood’s Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple lived well until tragedy struck in 1905 when Josephine died while giving birth to their first child.
In memory of his wife, John donated $10,000 and a 10-acre parcel of land to be used for the construction of a home for the elderly. About a year later, “Josephine’s Old People’s Home” was dedicated in a jubilant celebration on Sept. 27 1908.
John addressed the gathering of more than 1,000 people and challenged them to “care for others as God has provided for us.”
John’s vision of extending God’s love to others remains the foundation of Josephine and continues more than 100 years later.
For many years, support for Josephine came from the congregation members and community. Churches arranged “pound socials,” where participants gave a pound of food to the residents. Other civic groups also donated money to support the cost of resident care. This community sup -
port was necessary while also providing high-quality, compassionate, person-centered care for the body, mind, and spirit.
Over the years, the community’s needs changed. Josephine began providing childcare services in the late 1980s, first to staff and then to the families in the community. Today, more than 250 children are registered in the daycare, preschool, ECEAP, Montessori, and the beforeand-after-school program. A very unique aspect of these programs is that Josephine’s children work with seniors through intergenerational activities. One example is where the kids and seniors both take part in the handbells program and play songs
together. Another activity is when school-age children give manicures to some of the senior residents.
In 1997, Josephine added 55 assisted living apartments called “The Suites.”
Josephine Transitional Rehabilitation and The Meadows is a licensed skilled nursing facility for rehabilitation, long-term care, and memory care.
Josephine At Home recently completed their certification of need. They are up and running with Home Health and Home Care services in Snohomish County and Camano Island.
Cascade Village at Smokey Point is a new independent living facility which will be completed in Spring 2025.
Josephine’s has more than 300 employees and continues to look to the future by reviewing community needs, assisting where they can, and applying newly learned care techniques and therapy to those in their care.
“It is with ‘One Heart and Many Hands’ that Josephine continues to celebrate ‘Fullness of Life’ with our community-centered services since 1908,” said Jessica Treat, senior marketing and admissions director. “It is with this same heart that we say to all our past and present staff, congregations, parishioners, volunteers, donors, and so many others: ‘Thank you.’”
In addition to its longevity, the facility is known as a
caregiving community for all generations. In fact, Jessica said Josephine’s board of directors and CEO Terry Robertson are always listening to the needs of their community and creating more community-centered programs as the needs arise.
“Josephine Caring Community is the facility of choice where no one is left uncared for.”
Josephine’s front office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

Local pub offers tasty food, live music, community gathering place
GREAT FOOD, GREAT DRINKS, GREAT MUSIC, AND GREAT PEOPLE.
Pub 282 has been giving residents multiple reasons never to leave Camano Island or the Stanwood community.
At Pub 282, drinks are plentiful, with a large local beer selection always on tap, cocktails, wine, and bottled and canned beers. The Seahawks Cooler is a customerfavorite signature cocktail, along with the Purple Martini and The Camano Iced Tea.
Delicious pub-style food options include many items that are made from-scratch or locally sourced. In fact, many of the sauces are made in-house.
There are many menu items to choose from, includ-
ing prime rib sliders, spinach artichoke dip, raspberry brie brulee, Saratoga steak wrap, or sriracha bacon jalapeno poppers. There are also hand-shaped burgers, wraps, sandwiches, soups and salads, and desserts.
Pub 282’s pizzas with house-made signature sauce are named after areas of the island, like the Sunset, with Canadian bacon and pineapple, or The West Camano, with garlic ranch sauce, chicken, bacon, tomato and red onion.
“Our pub food is delicious and affordable in today’s environment,” said Pub 282 Manager Beth Wheeler. She’s been employed with the pub for five years and manager for almost three years.
The local pub opened in 2013 by The Myers Group, LLC. Tyler Myers serves as president.
Since opening, Pub 282 become a community gathering place. They’re also community-oriented and sponsor several local organizations and sports teams. They support local charities such as the West Camano Little Free Pantry and host events such as the trunk-or-treat event.
Guests of all ages are welcome at Pub 282. They can enjoy a variety of activities, including Happy Hour; Wednesday trivia hosted by Kitchen Manager Justin; and live music (with no cover charge) from various artists and genres. There is also a spacious outdoor patio where guests can enjoy the beautiful weather while they eat and drink.
Beth said customers return because of their servers, bartenders, kitchen staff, management, and quality of their food.
“We’re a community gathering place with amazing customers and staff members,” she said. “We’re all a big family.”
Pub 282 is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and
