Welcome to the 127th Skagit County Fair!

O

Let’s Wing It!

n behalf of the Skagit County Fairgrounds Advisory Board, welcome to one of Skagit County’s favorite traditions! Whether you’re here for the rides, the livestock, the food, the variety of music and entertainment, or simply to make memories with family and friends, we’re thrilled you’ve joined us for four days of fun, laughter, and community celebration. This year’s theme, “Let’s Wing It!”, is a perfect reminder that some of life’s best adventures happen when we embrace the unexpected. Around here, “winging it” doesn’t mean leaving things to chance—it means being ready to soar, adapting when needed, and celebrating the spirit of creativity, resilience, and community that has defined the Skagit County Fair for 127 years. Since 1898, the Skagit County Fair has brought generations together to celebrate our agricultural roots, showcase local talent, and create lasting traditions. As one of the oldest fairs in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest, our Fair has grown alongside our community while remaining true to its mission of honoring agriculture, youth, education, and family. While the 4 days of the Fair in August shine brightest, the Fairgrounds is bustling year-round with around 50 events using the grounds annually. Together, these events generate an estimated $19 million in economic impact each year and contribute approximately $800,000 in local tax revenue, supporting local businesses, creating jobs, and strengthening our community. Best of all, the Skagit County Fairgrounds operates as a self-funded facility, and has remained independent from County General Fund since 2009. Of course, none of this would happen without the incredible people behind the scenes. Our dedicated staff members, countless volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, entertainers, vendors, contractors, and community partners spend countless hours planning every detail so that when the gates open, all you have to do is enjoy the experience. Their passion and commitment are what truly make the Skagit County Fair take flight. As we look forward, and plan for a sustainable future for our Fair and Fairgrounds, we would also like to highlight two entities that help ensure we continue to thrive for generations to come. The Skagit County Fairgrounds Foundation is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving and enhancing the Fairgrounds while supporting agricultural education and youth programs. Through generous donations and fundraising efforts—including the Brick Sponsorship Campaign and events like this fall’s Stitch-A-Fair—the Foundation continues to invest in the future of this treasured community resource. You can read more on the mission and work of the foundation on page 39 of the guide. In 2025, the Skagit County Commissioners and Fairgrounds staff re-established the Fairgrounds Advisory Board, a seven-member volunteer board representing a diverse cross-section of our community. Working closely with Fairgrounds staff, County leadership, and stakeholders, the Board helps guide the year-round planning, development, and success of this remarkable facility, ensuring it remains a vibrant gathering place for future generations. Fairgrounds Advisory As we celebrate another incredible Fair—and as our nation marks its 250th anniversary—we invite you to celebrate the “Magic of Board Members Skagit” with the people, traditions, and spirit that make Skagit County Gery Cardenas – Board Chair such a special place to call home. Dorothy Elsner – Vice Chair So wander the barns, cheer on our youth, enjoy the entertainMonique Brigham ment, savor the local flavors, reconnect with old friends, make some Hank Davies new ones, and most of all... Robert Desmarais Let’s Wing It! Thank you for being part of the tradition. Kristen Keltz Enjoy the Fair! Virginia Learned Your Skagit County Fairgrounds Advisory Board goskagit.com

Main Stage Music ARENA EPIC ROCK SHOW Saturday 5:00 p.m. Picture the days when you could see legends like Journey, Aerosmith, and Bon Jovi sometimes even on the same playbill for just five bucks. Arena expertly captures the spirit of that era, channeling the energy of classic rock icons who defined live music with grit and power. Unlike today’s glam-heavy tributes, Arena leans into raw, jeans-and-leather authenticity over spandex and showmanship.

FOREST STOKE Sunday 11:00 a.m. Forest Stoke is Zach Hamer’s solo project. Zach is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter with a focus on folk and blues. A seasoned performer, Zach has spent the last decade playing shows coast to coast, bringing an energetic and engaging performance wherever he goes. Zach also performs in the band Kuinka.

Led by Stacy Jones alongside her father Tom Jones on bass and drummer Rick J. Bowen, the group has been together since 2008. The band expanded in 2023 with the addition of multi “Best of the Blues” award winner Eric Rice, who also leads his own band, Eric’s Maine Connection. A dynamic vocalist and instrumentalist, Jones has earned multiple “Best of the Blues” nominations for songwriting, performance, harmonica, and guitar, and has performed at major festivals including the Chicago Blues Festival and SXSW, toured internationally, and shared stages with artists such as ZZ Top and Janiva Magness.

Featured Entertainment Sterling “More than Magic” Daily on the Main Stage Thursday: 1:00 p.m. & 4:15 p.m. Friday: 12:30 p.m. & 3:45 p.m. Saturday: 12:30 p.m. & 3:45 p.m. Sunday: 1:15 p.m. & 4:30 p.m. The Fair is thrilled to welcome the incredible magician Sterling to the Main Stage for a spellbinding family-friendly performance. Spectators are invited to experience a captivating blend of drama, comedy, and illusion as Sterling transports each guest to a world of wonder and storytelling. For the past 20 years, Sterling has amazed audiences all over the globe. He has won international awards for his unique combination of music, dance, story-telling, and grand illusion. Sterling was born and raised in Whatcom County. After graduating from Lynden High School, he moved to Cabo, Mexico where he’s been performing full time for the last 15 years. “I moved there because I needed the repetitions and experience that only comes from a high volume of performances in a tourist destination. In those theaters, clubs, and luxury resorts I really honed my craft into what it is today,” he shared. As a young boy, Sterling saw his first magic show featuring Jeff McBride in 2006 and instantly found his passion for the performing arts. It started a journey that took him all over the world learning and performing magic. “I’ll never forget that moment I experienced magic for the first time,” Sterling explained. “To be able to share that wonder with my audience 14 Skagit County Fair 2026

and bring them together, is the reason I perform.” Sterling is also thankful for other mentors and friends in magic. “John Walton from Bellingham sponsored the 2006 Jeff McBride show at the Mt. Baker Theatre and allowed me to use his studio as a rehearsal space when I was entering magic competitions, so I wouldn’t be here without John. I also admire magician Lance Burton whose authenticity in magic really shaped my own viewpoints, and Shawn Farquhar, a magician from Vancouver, who I look up to as a mentor and friend.” Sterling said, “I first performed for the Skagit County Fair back in 2010. I love performing at the Fair because of the community. Every show feels like home because I always see so many familiar faces. It’s a blessing that magic has taken me many places in the world, but I consider the greatest blessing to be sharing my passion with those of my community. I got

my start in magic performing for the Skagit libraries when I was a high schooler, and one of my first big stage shows was at the Lincoln Theater.” As a theatrically trained entertainer, Sterling is skilled in all varieties of magic, presentation, and performing arts. No two shows are the same. Sterling customizes each performance to create a unique and unforgettable experience for every crowd. “Audiences can expect to be amazed and transported through illusion and storytelling,” said Sterling. “My show is heartfelt, authentic, and most importantly, there’s fun to be had for all ages. For those who have seen me before, expect a combination of new illusions and old favorites. I look forward to seeing you there!” www.magicsterling.com

Children of all ages are invited to dress up and step into the spotlight as Star Performers in a live theater adventure they’ll never forget. Presented multiple times daily, each show selects up to 18 children from the audience just minutes before showtime so every performance is fresh and full of surprise. This show builds confidence and celebrates imagination. Bring the whole family and be part of the magic of kids discovering just how powerful their imagination can be.

KIDS PEDAL TRACTOR PULL

Young participants climb onto specially modified vintage-style pedal tractors and put their strength and determination to the test as they pull a weighted sled down a 25-foot track. The challenge grows with each age group, creating thrilling moments as kids compete to reach a “full pull” or push all the way to the finish line. As the weight increases in the finals, so does the excitement. Some competitors even rise to the challenge of pulling up to 500 lbs of resistance. Perfect for families, this high-energy event combines friendly competition and unforgettable moments of accomplishment as kids give it their all in front of a cheering crowd.

THE MAGIC BEAN

Step right up for one of the most engaging, family-friendly shows at the fair! This high-energy, interactive experience takes audiences on a fun journey from the farm to the kitchen, helping kids (and adults!) discover where their food really comes from in a way they’ll never forget. Through plenty of audience participation, everyday agriculture is brought to life right before your eyes. Kids are invited to join in the fun as they learn surprising facts about farming, food production, and the path our meals take before reaching the table. Equal parts entertainment and education, The Magic Bean is a must-see fair favorite that turns agriculture into an unforgettable adventure for all ages.

Featured Latin Artist – Larry Hernandez Main Stage Saturday: 8:30 p.m. The Skagit County Fair and Adrys Marketing & Concerts LLC are thrilled to welcome internationally renowned featured Latin artist, Larry Hernández, to the Main Stage on Saturday! “This is the highest profile Latin international artist to date that has agreed to perform at the Skagit County Fair, and it’s an honor to welcome him to our community. This opportunity was made possible through our strong industry relationships and the support of our sponsors. A special thank you to Fair Manager Aric Gaither, as well as the rest of the staff, boards, and the entire community, for their continued belief in the positive impact we create together,” shared Adrys Marketing Owner, Adriana Suarez. Larry is a Mexican-American singer/songwriter, drummer, accordion player, and reality television star, known as “Everyone’s Friend.” He is famous for his work in the regional Mexican music genre, particularly banda, norteño-banda, and corridos. He was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico from the age of four. In addition to his musical idol, the late Chalino Sanchez, Larry’s musical influence comes from his family. His grandfather is a musician and many of his cousins and family members are well known artists. He learned to be a musician in a school in Culiacan, Mexico where he started songwriting at a young age, sharing handwritten “corridos” with his musician cousins and uncles to get their feedback. Over the years, his skills as a composer, writer, musician, and singer grew alongside his passion. Hernández began his professional career as a high school student in 2002, drumming for a Sinaloense band called Los Amables del Norte. It was with this group that he gained experience with music recording and learned how to perform on stage in front of a large crowd. He launched his first solo projects in 2008, refusing to compromise his artistic vision by continuing to thrill audiences with his original corridos that make his performances both relatable and entertaining. Larry has charted numerous tracks over the years, including widely popular hits like “Arrastrando las Patas” and “El Baleado.” Various groups and solo artists have recorded songs written by him, which have also gained immense success. goskagit.com

He won “New Latin Artist of the Year” at the 2010 Billboard Latin Music Awards and “Regional Mexican Albums Artist of the Year” in 2011, driven by the tremendous success of Larrymanía, which was released in 2010. The album’s success was fueled by his breakout hit “Arrastrando las Patas,” which held the number one spot on radio charts for more than 15 consecutive weeks. Over time, his music has grown to attract 2.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Larry has also attracted millions of visitors to his website and social media pages, where the videos he personally created for his fans have generated millions of views. In 2012, his fame expanded outside of the recording studio when he launched his own highly successful Spanish-language reality series, Larrymania, which was televised by NBC Universo and chronicled his music career, tours, and personal daily life over eight seasons. LIVESTOCK SALE The Pavilion Saturday, August 8 at 10:00 a.m. Mark your calendar for one of Skagit County’s most exciting community events happening right here at the Fair! The Skagit County Junior Livestock Sale brings together hardworking youth exhibitors, local businesses, agricultural families, and community supporters for a celebration of dedication and the future of agriculture. 4-H Skagit Valley Livestock board member, Wendy Couch, participated as an exhibitor in her youth and has served on the 4-H Junior Livestock Sale board for 10+ years. “Now, as one of the adults helping support the program, it’s come full circle for me and has been the ultimate reward, honestly,” she shared. Jaelynn Van Valkenburg is a sophomore at Mount Vernon Christian School. She has been an active member of the 4-H Skagit Valley Livestock Club since she was nine years old. “One of my favorite things about 4-H is the community that you build through it. I view 4-H club as family. I also find the Livestock Sale and show very rewarding because you get to see your hard work pay off. I went to my first auction when I was about five or six years old and I have worked on quite a few projects over the years, including beef cattle and Boer goats. I plan to keep participating until I graduate. One day, I hope to give back to the community that helped me become who I am today.” “Our 4-H and FFA groups have multiple talented showmen and women participating in our Livestock Sale,” said Wendy. “Youth projects range from beef to swine, lambs, goats, chickens, rabbits, and turkeys. Project timelines and requirements vary by species, ranging from six to 12 months for a beef project to as little as six weeks for a market chicken. Our kids either buy their market projects from farmers and ranchers at the weaning age or breed and raise livestock from their own herd(s). Youth make their selection based on availability, breed, and age requirements.” Wendy emphasized the dedication behind each project, noting that these exhibitors invest significant time, money, and 32 Skagit County Fair 2026

pride into learning how to care for their animals. “For some, it takes years to reach the point where they are ready to show or sell a project,” she said. Jaelynn is selling a market goat at the 2026 Livestock Sale. “I have put a lot of time, effort, and money into him since he was born on our family farm in January. I take pride in the fact that he is bred and owned – starting when I picked his mom and dad. To raise a Boer goat, you spend about 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night for six to eight months, feeding and watering and working with them to make sure they’re friendly,” she shared. This experience prepares youth for a future as involved citizens, community leaders, and wise decision makers. Exhibitors learn many valuable life skills through their projects, from understanding the nutritional, housing, and daily care needs of their livestock to developing budgeting, marketing, communication, and leadership skills. Many go out in the community or use social media to help market their animals. Jaelynn explained the skills she has learned: “Through my experience with livestock projects, I’ve learned a lot about responsibility and caring for animals – you basically become the animal’s parent. I’ve also learned how to be a salesperson by asking for sponsorships and talking to people about my project.” Wendy encourages community members to invest in the next generation of agricultural leaders. “These young people represent the future of agriculture and the next generation of producers who will help put food on our tables. Their success depends on strong community support, especially in a region that takes pride in its agricultural roots.” Please support our 4-H youth by buying local livestock! https://skagitjuniorlivestocksale.com/ goskagit.com

4-H YOUTH PROGRAMS The 4-H youth program is volunteer driven and community based; it was started at the beginning of the 20th century to ensure the future of rural youth. It consists of a varied community of more than 6.5 million members from ages nine through nineteen in 90,000 clubs and 60 million alumni from across America. The 4-H’s stand for Head, Heart Hands and Health This is the Pledge 4-H members learn all over the world: I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country and my world. Skagit County 4-H celebrated the 100th anniversary in 2022 of having clubs in the county. The clubs emphasize learning, leadership/life skills, healthy living, citizenship and science through classes, hands-on projects, and community service. Youth can choose from a variety of projects in the areas of technology, human sciences, large and small animals, science and engineering, natural resources, and citizenship and leadership. Beyond the excitement of learning something new through a project, youth have the opportunity to participate in leadership conferences, travel the world, become involved in their community through service, develop healthy youth/ adult partnerships and meet new friends in a safe and comfortable setting. In Skagit County, approximately 300 youth are organized into 28 clubs and mentored by 90 adult volunteer Leaders. Adult volunteers are screened and trained to mentor youth in the projects the youth is interested in. Children ages 5- 18 years old can join 4-H; visiting with leaders and members at the Fair is a great way to find a good fit for an individual’s interests. The youth are encouraged to speak with the public about their projects, slow down and take time to visit with the exhibitors. You will likely learn something new! 4-H members can compete with their goskagit.com

STOCK DOGS: The Farmer’s Friend

Jan & Jewel Horse Arena: 5:30pm

Herding dogs are invaluable on the farm. Australian Shepherds are highly intelligent dogs whose natural instincts are to gather a herd and move it to please their human handlers. They have been bred to have incredible endurance and enthusiasm for working stock.

This exhibition will show stock dog working fundamentals as dogs run sheep through obstacles as they herd them into a pen. Jan communicates with her dogs through whistles or voice commands. This is a true showcase of the partnership between the handler and their dog! Jan’s dogs help her demonstrate the different skills that working dogs bring ro the job: strength, biddability, and intelligence. Jan Wesen has a B.S. in Dairy Science and lives in Bow, Washington where she and husband Rod work their dogs on their organic 600 cow dairy farm. Jan judges, competes and teaches herding clinics internationally and throughout the US.

Check out the Renaissance Booth near the Money Adventure Kid Zone and across from the Vuelta La Luna Circus! Highlights Include: • Renaissance games to learn and play • Costumes & armor to try on • MayPole to dance • Music to sing along to 44 Skagit County Fair 2026
