elcome to The Only Sedro-Woolley on Earth! We are a town as unique as our name. What began as two separate communities, Sedro and Woolley, was brought together in 1898 by a single hyphen, creating one town built on hard work, opportunity, and the determination to carve out something lasting.

Surrounded by farmland, forests, and the Skagit River flowing through it all, this valley has always been shaped by land and water. Long before roads or railroads, the first people here knew this river in a way no one else did. The Native people of this valley, who would become the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, understood its power, where it would rise, where to travel its waterways, and how to live with its seasons. Early pioneers learned from that knowledge as they arrived, and together a community began to take shape.

That same grit and determination built Sedro-Woolley and continues to define who we are today. Forward thinking has always been part of our story, from the early ingenuity of Skagit Steel, which made logging equipment safer and more efficient, to the “Talkie Tooter” from Rothenbuhler Engineering, which transformed communication in the woods and helped save lives. That spirit continues today through companies like Janicki Industries, carrying forward a legacy of problem solving and pushing boundaries from logging to outer space.

Local shops, family-run businesses, coffee spots, restaurants, and gathering places give Sedro-Woolley its energy and charm. It is a place where you can grab a bite, browse unique stores, and feel part of a welcoming community. Our museum sits downtown, sharing the stories and artifacts that connect our past to the present.

Beyond downtown, you will find parks, trails, and open spaces that invite you to slow down and explore. From Veterans Memorial Park to the Northern State Trail System and east toward the North Cascades, there is always something beautiful nearby.

Our community traditions bring us together year after year. Loggerodeo™, Founders’ Day, Blast from the Past, and our Christmas Parade and tree lighting are more than just events. They are what make this town feel like home, filling our streets with connection and pride.

I am honored to serve as mayor of this incredible city, a place that never forgets where it came from: the hard work, the sacrifices, and the generations who built it. It is also a city that still believes in its ability to forge a new path forward together, the Woolley way.

Sedro-Woolley Log Drive raffle for childhood cancer A favorite event until it ended in the 1990s, the Sedro-Woolley Lions Club brought the Log Drive back between 2023 and 2025. Due to safety concerns, the log will no longer be dropped but folks can still purchase raffle tickets to raise money for the Childhood Cancer Treatment Fund and Kamp Korey.

Sedro-Woolley’s 2026 population is estimated at 13,591, making it the 102nd largest city in Washington State. SedroWoolley is currently growing at a rate of 1.4% annually. The median household income stands at $80,885. The median age in Sedro-Woolley is 34 years. The two largest ethnic groups in Sedro-Woolley are White (non-Hispanic) and Hispanic.

Transportation Sedro-Woolley is served by the Skagit Regional Airport in Burlington (owned and operated by the Port of Skagit, it offers corporate, business, and recreational flying services), the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific freight rail lines, Amtrak passenger rail service, and a regional transit system. The city is a one-hour drive to the Paine Field Airport in Everett, a half-hour drive to the Bellingham International Airport, and a one-and-a-half-hour drive to Sea-Tac International Airport. All five species of salmon – Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Chum and Pink – can be caught in local rivers and bays. Trout species such as steelhead, rainbow, cutthroat, brown and brook can be fished in numerous lakes and rivers, while warm water species, including large and small-mouth bass, perch, crappie, and bluegill can also be found.
