SCHOLARSHIPS SCHOLARSHIPS CITYWIDE CITYWIDE

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ENSURES THAT QUALIFYING SAN JOSÉ RESIDENTS WILL HAVE ACCESS TO PARTICIPATION IN DEPARTMENT PROGRAMS, CLASSES, AND ACTIVITIES.

Scholarships are available for families and individuals who meet the qualifications.

Families must apply in person at a community center during regular operating hours.

Scholarships can be used at any program location and at all three of the City of San José Municipal Golf Courses (Los Lagos, Rancho del Pueblo, and San José Municipal).

DANCE FALL CLASSES

DANCE DIVAS

A fun beginning dance class where students will learn Ballet warm-ups, Jazz/ Hip Hop dance, and Tap steps! Parents are allowed to stay for the first 10 minutes on the first day of class and are encouraged to attend the last class for a great recital.

GYM STARS

Be a gymnastic star! Learn cartwheels, handstands, rolls, round-offs, and much, much more! Parents are allowed to stay for the first 10 minutes on the first day of class and are encouraged to attend the last class for a great recital.

Grab your pickleball racket and get ready to play! Whether your child is a beginner or an intermediate player, this program will improve their game and help them enjoy pickleball more. Our pickleball programs focus on skill refinement, as well as on practice and match play, to develop consistent, well-rounded athletes. Equipment is limited; please bring your own paddle if you have one

This parent-child class develops gross motor skills and coordination pertinent to the game of basketball. Repetition permits children to build their confidence and esteem. Activities include organized games that help children to develop skills and learn to follow directions.

CODE BEE-GINNER

Playful coding with real-world connections! Bee Smart Coders introduces young learners to coding concepts through fun, real-life examples Campers will practice counting and sequencing, explore real-life algorithms (like step-by-step instructions), and discover what a computer really is and how it works, all while using Bee-Bot® robots.These kid-friendly Bee-Bot® robots provide a playful environment for children to naturally discover and learn This half-day camp offers a lighthearted but meaningful way to connect coding with the world around them, helping students strengthen problem-solving skills while having fun.

ROBLOX GAME DESIGN

Learn how to create your own Roblox Games and publish them for others to play! This interactive course leverages the excitement of Roblox, transforming gameplay into a hands-on coding experience. Students will learn the Lua programming language to define the rules and mechanics of their games Throughout this course, students master essential programming concepts such as loops, rendering, and inventory systems by integrating them directly into the Roblox environment. Each challenge unlocks new coding skills and deepens their understanding, fostering logic, problem-solving, and creativity This is not your typical coding class We use Roblox to bring coding to life, evolving the way students interact with their favorite games. By the end, students aren't just playing Roblox they're using code to shape and enhance it.

BUILDING PUBLIC SPEAKING CONFIDENCE

This course teaches young students the essentials of building confidence in public speaking Taught using the fun concepts of (don’t) show and tell, storytelling (scary and funny stories!), reciting poems, pretend games, this is an excellent class to start developing confidence in young students in a fun way. The participants learn how to stand tall and speak confidently in front of a group They begin to understand the concepts and importance of maintaining eye contact, good posture, volume and expressions.

Designed for little artists who are ready to explore but not yet toilet trained, this hands-on class introduces children to the world of creativity through arts & crafts, story time, music, and sensory play. Guided by experienced staff, children will build social skills and express themselves in a fun, supportive environment A parent or caregiver is highly encouraged to participate Please dress children in comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes art can get messy! BALLROOM DANCE

Come join others for some various dancing and fun socialization Dress is casual and singles are welcomed Come try out the exciting world of ballroom dancing; including the slow gliding foxtrot to sensuous rumba, to a vivacious cha cha... there is something for everyone. This program is led by a volunteer, who will provide 90 minutes of instruction, followed by 30 minutes of social dance.

GENTLE YOGA

This gentle and slower pace yoga class allows you to practice strength, flexibility, and balance while allowing enough time in each pose to experience the mind-body connection. This class can help improve breathing, balance, and self-awareness Even though gentle yoga isn't "beginner yoga," the pace allows us to cover several variations, and everyone is welcome to join! *Bring your own yoga mat.

OLDER ADULT MEMBERSHIP

The City of San José offer FREE memberships to all Older Adults age 50+. This membership grants you access to discounted prices on programs and activities, early enrollment dates, access to special events, and you will be added to a distribution list to stay in the “know” for all things Older Adults. Sign up online, or at your local community center!

Scholarships Available

The City of San José offers activity scholarships for children, seniors, and adults with disabilities who qualify Scholarships will cover 50-70% of the class cost. Fill out the scholarship form and bring the necessary documents to any City of San José community center. Contact any community center for information.

R.O.C.K. Afterschool is available Monday-Friday on school campuses from the time school is dismissed until 6 p.m., except school holidays, breaks, and in-service days.
