ART START (CHILD ONLY)

Explore five art stations with a different theme each week. Children engage in age-appropriate projects at their own pace and in their own way. Each class will end on a musical note with singing and dancing. Aprons are provided but wear your grubbies. DANCE 18+ SQUARE DANCING Square Dancing is lots of fun. In addition this activity has all of the elements of a healthy life style! Enjoy the light aerobic exercise, the mental stimulation of learning a new skill and the pleasure of making new friends. The caller sings directions set to music and the eight dancers in the square act as a team to complete the calls. No special dress is required; just wear comfortable non-marking shoes. LITTLE SPORTS MEDICINE With your white coat and reflex hammer, learn how real doctors do an assessment for sports injuries. SPORTS SKYHAWKS HOOPSTER TOTS (FROGGIES) Parent only participates if necessary. Very fun and active class. The focus is on developing various basketball skills through imaginative scenarios. One week the basketball hoop is the monkey tree, the next, it's a sail boat, and so on.

SJ RECREATION PRESCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT “The San Jose Recreation Preschool program is committed to giving your child the best possible tools in order to thrive in their upcoming kindergarten adventure. This will be accomplished by providing qualified, trained, and experienced instructors teaching in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Your child will have the opportunity to develop their learning and social skills while nurturing their imagination and creativity through play”

Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class:        

Effective November 26, 2018, all children 18 months to 5 years of age enrolled in San Jose Recreation Preschool are required to show proof of immunizations.

Requirements for a parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc. varies by center.

Teacher to child ratio is 1:10 or better.

Participants must be toilet trained by the first day of program.

Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day.

A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations.

The City of San Jose, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare.

After reaching the class capacity your child can be put on a waitlist. If a spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list.

KINDERPREP

LITTLE LEARNERS

This class prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills and fun. Your child will gain a basic understanding of shapes, colors, pre-phonics, literacy building (i.e. identifying letter sounds, and writing the alphabet, simple words), number recognition, and counting up to 30. The goal is to have fun, participate and learn. Children must be fully potty trained before the start of class. Requirements for parent attendance, volunteers, snacks, etc. varies by center.

Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions and simple learning concepts. Children will work on hand eye coordination, motor skills, while gaining independence through the use of circle time, music, songs, stories, play, arts and crafts. Food will be provided for cooking activities and may be provided for special events. Children must be fully potty trained before the start of class. Requirements for parent attendance, volunteers, snacks, etc. varies by center.

MARTIAL ARTS (INCLUSION)

Join us for a night on the town! This social club utilizes community activities which are selected by the group to improve socialization, leisure awareness and independent living skills. Try new things and explore your community with the support and encouragement of friendly, knowledgeable staff. The first night of program will be held at the Camden Community Center. Location thereafter varies based on participants chosen activities. Members must be able to participate within a 1:6 staff to participant ratio and be independent with their personal care needs.
