MEET THE TEAM!

SOCIAL PROGRAMS CAMDEN

CAMDEN FUN CLUB (WED.)

Join us for a fun comprehensive activity that covers multiple activities such as: board games, karaoke, dancing, arts and crafts, and sensory science fun! Participants must be 16 or older and be accompanied by a caregiver or be able to function independently.

Location: Camden Community Center 3369 Union Ave, San Jose, CA 95124

AROUND THE TOWN CLUB

Join us for a night on the town! This social club utilizes community activities which are selected by the group to improve socialization, leisure awareness and independent living skills. Try new things and explore you community with the support and encouragement of friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Members must be able to participate within a 1:6 staff to participant ratio and be independent with their personal care needs. Please note: registration fee covers staffing cost only. Additional fees may be required based on chosen activities. Masks will be strongly recommended when at the community center.

*The first night of program will be held at the Camden Community Center. Locations thereafter varies based on participants chosen activities.

SOCIAL PROGRAMS MAYFAIR

HIRLN: Movie and Pizza Night

Come join us for a night of pizza, movies, and good company. We will be meeting and dining at Mountain Mike's Pizza off of Almaden Rd., then walk over to CineLux theater to watch a film of your choice. Participants are able to purchase their own additional snacks. All tickets will be purchased in advance by Friday June 6th. Please register in advance in person or online.

Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present. (Note: Attendant will need to pay for own fees or register for activity.)

AASR Sport-Mania!

Ready for a night of sports inside a roller rink? Join us to partake in many sports such as Boom Ball, Hungry Hippo, and more. Participants will also have a chance to practice some of the sports drills before playing the games. There will also be snacks provided as well. Participants are recommended to wear comfortable sport attire and bring a bottle of water. Please register in advance in person or online.

HIRLN: Rose Garden Picnic

HIRLN (Head Injury Recreation and Leisure Network) invites you to join us for a lovely morning of having a picnic at the beautiful Municipal Rose Garden. We will meet at the park, have a brunch inspired meal, and enjoy the rose garden along with optional outdoor games. Please register in advance in person or online.

Monthly Social: Hot Dog!

Join us in creating an inspired "Hot Dog" craft while snacking on "pigs in a blanket" with a couple of condiments. This program is geared towards adults with disabilities, but anyone can join. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present.

Monthly Social: Happy Birthday Party!

Join us on this day to celebrate everyone's birthday! We will have party games to play, birthday cards to color and sign, and afterwards enjoy a sweet cake. This program is geared towards adults with disabilities, but anyone can join. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present.

Monthly Social: End of Summer BBQ

Join us for saying goodbye to summer! We bid summer goodbye with our annual BBQ. We will be serving hamburgers with chips and ice cream.This program is geared towards adults with disabilities, but anyone can join. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present. Come and play some social games such as bingo, Loteria, Connect Four, Jenga, and more! We will get to play many games to stimulate our brains and to socialize with our friends! Come join us for some fun group dancing! Enjoy a new theme every week, with an open dance studio to dance your heart out! Fun for All!

This program focuses on fun with music, games, arts and crafts, movement activities and more! This play program is designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Children should bring a sack lunch to class each week. Participants must be able to function in a 1 to 3 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care. Attendants will be required to pass a City of San Jose background check in programs that serve youth under 18 years of age.

VIRTUAL PROGRAM MAYFAIR

(Virtual) Music Mondays

Love to listen to music? Join us on Zoom where each night will feature a different music genre or theme. We can listen, sing, dance, and chat all about music or more. Participants will be able to requests songs via email or chat. This program is designed for persons with disabilities but, anyone may join. Zoom link will be sent prior to start of program.

(Virtual) Let's Get Moving

Got the notion to get yourself into motion? Join us on Zoom to partake in an online exercise class with each class time being different. We will work on upper and lower body, balance, flexibility, and more all while encouraging participants. Participants may be asked to gather household items to be used as "equipment" depending on workout. It's recommended that participants wear comfortable workout attire and have water nearby.

Let's go on a field trip without having to leave your home! Joins us on Zoom to learn about a new location for each class. We will see historical landmarks, popular tourist activities, learn about the culture, and much more. There will also be a couple of points of fun facts, questions, and sensory incorporated into each class. Zoom link will be sent out prior to each class.

Camp Superstuff- Asthma Camp

They're Back! Breathe California offers Camp Superstuff, a week-long day camp held within the region served by Breathe California of the Bay Area. The City of San Jose, Mayfair Community Center, is partnering with Breathe California to offer Camp Superstuff. This camp is designed for children 6-12 suffering from asthma, Camp Superstuff blends asthma education curriculum with traditional summer camp activities.

Every kid wants to play! These day camps are designed for children with cognitive disabilities who need a higher level of staff assistance for participation, including those with autism spectrum disorder Activities include arts and crafts, group games, circle time, a field trip, and more Children should bring a sack lunch to camp each day. Participants must be able to function in a 1:3 staff to participant ratio and be independent with personal care needs or bring an attendant with them Attendants will need to complete City of San Jose background clearance (fingerprinting) and provide proof of vaccination status

Everyone loves camp! Be social, make some friends, learn some new skills This camp for teens with disabilities and their non-disabled siblings and friends will provide a safe and structured opportunity to be a teen. Some fieldtrips, lots of games, crafts and other cool stuff! Teens must be able to function in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio and be independent with personal care or provide an attendant. Attendant must complete City of San Jose background clearance (fingerprinting) and provide proof of vaccination status

SOCIAL SKILLS BASCOM

SIMPLY COOKING

This introductory course for individuals with disabilities. Class includes lecture, observation, and hands on preparation. Participants will receive instructional materials to take home. Menus will include breakfast, lunch, dinners, and desserts. Class is conducted in a teaching kitchen which utilizes gas burners.

Participants must be able to function in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio independently or must provide an attendant for personal care.

ARTS & CRAFT MAYFAIR

Mayfair Group Arts

Come join us at Mayfair Community Center for some arts and crafts fun! Throughout the program participants will improve fine motor skills, increase social skills, and learn to expand their creativity. Each class will be guided by a City Staff.

Organization's Staff must accompany clients in 1 to 4 ratio.

Bascom Group Arts

This program is geared towards groups of people with disabilities. Join us for seasonal arts and crafts. This program is designed to improve fine motor skills, boost creativity and social skills. Participants will be guided through seasonal art projects and specialty crafts. Organization's staff must accompany clients in a 4 to 1 ratio. This class is not designed for individuals without staff/attendant.

Fun with Arts

Come and enjoy different art forms such as coloring, drawing, painting and more! This art class is directed towards teen and young adults with disabilities. Each week we will try different art forms. We'll get to socialize with others by showing our art with each other once completed. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:6 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant.

Sensory Fun! (Inclusive)

This course is specifically designed to empower individuals with disabilities to engage in hands-on sensory-based projects. This unique class combines the excitement of scientific inquiry and fun art projects into one! Participants must be able to function in a 1:10 staff ratio, or have a guardian or caregiver present.

Wheelchair Basketball Competitive

Looking to take Wheelchair basketball to the next level? Join our competition class, this is for individuals looking for more of a challenge and are looking to be apart of the competitive team. No sports chair, no problem; we have extra sports chairs available on a first come first serve basis. Tournament opportunities are available for big gamers. Don't miss out! Participants must be able to function in a 1:10 staff to participant ratio, and independent with personal care needs.

Wheelchair Pickleball

New to Bascom, we are now offering wheelchair pickleball. Wheelchair pickleball provides an opportunity for individuals with mobility impairments to enjoy the benefits of physical activity, social interaction, and competitive play. Anyone is welcomed to try regardless if you know how to play or not. We have chairs you can use on a first come first basis.

Scholarships Available!

The City of San José offers activity scholarships for children, seniors, and adults with disabilities who qualify. Scholarships will cover 50-70% of the class cost. Fill out the scholarship form and bring the necessary documents to any City of San José community center. Contact any community center for information.

She is passionate about designing programs that inspire healthy living and foster mental wellness through the joy of play

Nessa Diamante has proudly been a part of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services team for nearly five years. For the past year, she has been based at Camden, where she focuses on Therapeutic Service programs and fostering meaningful connections within the community. Nessa is passionate about creating welcoming, safe spaces where everyone can come together and enjoy some fun!
