Camden

Around the Town Club

Join us for a night on the town! This social club utilizes community activities which are selected by the group to improve socialization, leisure awareness and independent living skills. Try new things and explore your community with the support and encouragement of friendly, knowledgeable staff. The first night of program will be held at the Camden Community Center. Location thereafter varies based on participants chosen activities. Members must be able to participate within a 1:6 staff to participant ratio and be independent with their personal care needs. Fun for All! This program focuses on fun with music, games, arts and crafts, movement activities, and a field trip. This play program is designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Children should bring a sack lunch to class each week. LIFE SKILLS

Bascom

Simply Cooking This introductory course for individuals with disabilities (ages 16+) and it covers basic kitchen safety, basic menu planning, and preparing simple dishes. Menus will include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts. Class includes lecture, observation, and hands on preparation. Participants will receive instructional materials to take home. Class is conducted in a teaching kitchen which utilizes gas burners. Adapted Sports Basketball, Soccer, Bocce ball, Softball... You play it, we offer it! Adapted Sports is an inclusive introductory wheelchair sports program designed for individuals with physical disabilities and nonphysical disabilities to enjoy a variety of sports at any level. No wheelchair, no problem. We have extra chairs for use during program. This is a place where individuals can learn basic sport skills, team cooperation and rules of competitive play. We also focus on exposure to a variety of wheelchair sports with the potential for competitive skill development. Whether you just want to learn the sport or aspire to compete in future tournaments, this is the program for you. Come out and shoot some hoops and make new connections. In this level you will learn new techniques, skills, and practice drills. All ability levels welcome. No sports chair, no problem; we have extra sports chairs available to use during program. SUMMER CAMP ANNOUNCEMENTS DIABETES CAMP TYPE 1 This collaborative day camp program is provided by the City of San Jose Therapeutic Services and Nevada/California Diabetes Association. Campers will be participating in daily activities, games, crafts, and diabetes education headed by city staff and certified nurses. There will also be two field trips and swimming pool days. We will also provide parental/guardian education meetings as needed. Nursing staff will be on site to help monitor blood sugars and provide education to participants and families. Registration is taken through the N&C Diabetes Association and for any questions please contact Kat Carpenter at (619) 549-6811. Dates, times, and pricing will be posted in a future flyer. Camp location will be at Mayfair Community Center, 2039 Kammerer Ave. San Jose, CA 95116.

NIKA NOORISHAD Therapeutic Specialist

Nika has been a staff member of the team for over 5 years. Nika currently works at Seven Trees Community Center, but has worked at Almaden Lake, Happy Hollow, and various other centers. She loves helping the community and is a big advocate for all of her participants.

NESSA DIAMANTE Therapeutic Specialist Nessa Diamante has been a staff member of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood services team for over 3 years. Nessa has been located at Camden for the past 6 months focusing on Therapeutic Service programs and building connections in the community. She aspires to create safe spaces for all to have some fun!

Alexis Miranda has been a staff member of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood services team for over 5 years. Alexis is an outgoing team member always willing to lend a helping hand to her community and staff. She stands out with her creativity and vibrant personality. Plus a style to match!

PRICILLA MARTINEZ Therapeutic Specialist Pricilla Martinez has been a staff member of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood services team for 4 years! Pricilla currently works at Bascom but has worked with Grace Art & Wellness program and Northside Senior Services for 2 years. She is committed to create programs that inspire healthy living and promote mental wellness through play.

AMELIA UYTINGCO Recreation Leader

Amelia joined the Recreation, and Neighborhood services team this past May. She has greatly enjoyed helping individuals create a sense of community, independence, and friendships through fun, art and science activities. Amelia is energized by the smiles and victories with the participants she serves and aims to make a welcoming space for individuals with special needs.

Recreation Leader

Wilmer Samson is one of the newest additions to the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood services team. He has been a great help with Therapeutic Services programs especially with participants of Mayfair’s Group Arts, who immediately connected with his friendly personality, appreciated his helpful services, and enjoyed having him as an instructor.

MARISOL LEDESMA Recreation Leader

Marisol joined us during summer of 2023 She has been an amazing help to the therapeutics department. She loves to plan and then see the participants enjoy what she created. She loves meeting new people and interacting with them through the programs she supports. In her free time she likes to craft, cook, paint, and explore with her son!

KATRINA LY

Recreation Leader Katrina Ly has been a member of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood services team since Summer 2023. In her short time of service she has played a key role in Therapeutic Service programs at Camden with participants of Fun Club and Co-op Dances. She creates safe places for fun and builds connections with each of the participants to make personable experiences.
