Keeping In Touch June 2022

Celebrating 1000 open heart surgeries!

Our cardiac team recently celebrated a significant milestone, completing its 1000th open heart surgery case! What a cause for celebration! We are the only private hospital in regional Victoria to offer cardiac surgery and reaching this milestone reflects the hospital’s commitment to offering the Geelong community access to technology and services close to home. Our hospital has long been recognised as a surgical centre of excellence and is dedicated to delivering the safest possible program of the highest quality to its patients and this is a significant milestone in cardiac surgery. Kudos to all the teams who have contributed to achieving this outcome! Our team of highly skilled doctors, nurses and allied health professionals are the back bone of the service and without their dedication and commitment the service would not have flourished.

Men’s Health Week 13-19 June

Men’s Health Week 13-19 June We celebrated Men’s Health Week from Monday 13-Sunday 19 June. The theme this year was Building Healthy Environments for Men and Boys - focusing on creating physically, mentally and emotionally healthy environments in the home, workplace and in social settings. It is also important that we encourage the men in our lives to make use of health services to preventatively manage their health and find out before it’s too late if problems exist. The first point of call is to visit their GP to discuss any issues or concerns they may have. There are also a number of free services aimed and supporting men’s health available: • Headtohealth.gov.au/supporting-yourself/support-for/men • MensLine Australia (online counselling and forum for men): 1300 78 99 78 • Dads in Distress (peer support for separated dads) 1300 853 437 • SANE Australia (people living with a mental illness): 1800 187 263 or chat online at sane. org. Watch this video and share with the men and boys in your life: https://youtu.be/l3RwvTwelFo

The judging will be completed by 6.00pm on 6 July 2022. The winner and runners up will be informed and announced on 7 July 2022. The Kindness Kart has been out and about our hospital! Our very hard working Hotel Services Team have been going above and beyond and welcomed some well deserved love and attention. They work tirelessly behind the scenes ensuring the highest level of infection control and supporting the day-to-day operations on the wards and hospital. Thanks to the entire Hotel Services team! Your work does not go unnoticed and you are doing a fantastic job! As a small gesture of our appreciation, team members enjoyed items off the Kindness Kart which has been made possible by the kind and generous donation of Kane Constructions.

MyLearning: Update The benchmark for all caregivers’ mandatory compliance is to be greater than 80%, aiming for 100% at all times. We are currently sitting at below this benchmark in many departments. It is all of our responsibility to maintain our own personal compliance as close to 100% as possible. To maintain this compliance we ask that all caregivers complete the following: • •

Log onto MyLearning and check their compliance status. Complete all outstanding learning modules as soon as possible.

As per the LOD 0002 Mandatory Education Policy, caregivers will: “Complete mandatory education as specified on each caregivers My Learning page. Caregivers are responsible for ensuring they successfully complete mandatory education by the required due dates or within the three month expiry window.” Failure to comply with this Policy by a member of SJGHC does not align with the minimum requirements and our code of conduct. All face to face competency assessments can be booked via the mylearning system, there are many sessions open for bookings for Basic Life Support and Manual Handling. Please contact L&D if you require support or have need assistance in achieving this compliance.

Bupa Health - Caregiver benefits Caregivers are entitled to corporate benefits including discounted Health policies that BUPA are pleased to extend out to all caregivers, and Best Promotion Offers like: • Get a Quote Get $20 Gift Card (flyer attached) • Joining 8 weeks free as a join offer • Refer a friend offer (refer a friend and get a $100 voucher) (flyer attached) Hard copies of these flyers are available in the staff dining room.

Back pats Frances said: 5 stars

Thank you to Professor Richard Grills and the Day Care staff at St John of God Geelong. My husband could not have been better cared for. It is a wonderful hospital. Many thanks!

What our patients had to say about us this week... Day Surgery Patient feedback

Patient feedback

The nurses were exceptional! So friendly and calming. The facilities were immaculate and all looked quite modern. I know I was only in for a very simple day stay procedure but the staff were calm and appeared un-rushed. I wish I could remember their names because both my admission nurse and they nurses that looked after me prior to my procedure and post procedure were exceptional!!

Time taken to care for individual needs. Wonderful thoughtful staff. Greatly appreciated.

Patient feedback Lovely caring and thoughtful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Excellent meals beautifully presented. Could not fault anything about my treatment or care. Would not hesitate to be admitted again should the need arise.
