Appointment Occupational Health & Safety Manager Karen Shiels has joined our Geelong team in the capacity of Occupational Health & Safety Manager following the departure of Nicole Selig last month.

Karen has been involved in the implementation and management of Health and Safety programs across a range of industries to proactively promote healthy and safe workplace culture. She has over 15 years of experience in safety and injury management and we are excited for her to join us.

Please join us in welcoming Karen to our hospital.

Fisher and Paykel Nasal High Flow webinars Webinar - Nasal High Flow (NHF) therapy, a continuum of adult respiratory care We had overwhelming interest in our previous series of Nasal High Flow (NHF) education webinars, however many of you were unable to attend due to work / other commitments. To provide you with another opportunity to attend, we have scheduled 2 additional NHF webinars in November.

Fisher and Paykel are running two national Nasal High Flow (NHF) webinars on Wednesday 24th November at 2.00pm and 7.30pm. The webinars will discuss the physiological mechanisms of NHF and apply these mechanisms to the application of NHF in an interactive patient case scenario.

Return of the volunteers

We are pleased to announce the return of two of our volunteer roles from Monday 8th November, the Concierge and Maintenance Volunteers.

These are the first roles to return as they are deemed low risk, due to being based outdoors or offsite. We look forward to welcoming them back next week.

Further updates on the return of other volunteer roles will be communicated when appropriate for them to return.

It’s not easy being green

St John of God Health Care has a Mission and Vision to be recognised as a responsible corporate citizen which encompasses an ongoing commitment to developing an environmentally sustainable future across all of the areas within which we operate.

As an organisation, we are turning our attention to the impact we have on our environment and the steps we can take to reduce that impact. Since early 2020, we have been working on highlighting environmental initiatives and developing a formal environmental sustainability strategy which will hold us accountable to the goals we set.

Our strategy is due to be launched in early 2022, but until then, you can keep up to date with our environmental initiatives on Cora: Environmental sustainability.

Please keep an eye out for an environmental campaign you can get involved in which we will be launching across our organisation later in the month!

Booster doses for healthcare workers

COVID-19 booster doses are now available at the Community Vaccination Hub in Norlane to anyone aged 18 and over who had their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine more than six months ago.

A COVID-19 booster dose helps prevent waning immunity (loss of protection) against COVID-19. Eligible people will receive the Pfizer vaccine as their booster dose.

To make a booking at the Community Vaccination Hub phone 1800 675 398 or limited walk-ins are also available. The Community Vaccination Hub in Norlane is open 7 days 8.30am-3.30pm.
