Welcome to another edition to KIT. As we publish this edition of KIT it’s wonderful to see our hospital returning to a closer sense of normality. Yes, still plenty of challenges but wonderful to see our surgical services returning to stronger levels with the removal of the public health order capacity restrictions.

We are so grateful to all on the team for the flexibility and commitment demonstrated yet again during the most recent omicron wave.

A different kind of impact but impactful none the less and our SJG Geelong team has been absolutely terrific as we continued to support our community.

Scrub ‘em up with love!

Thanks to the wonderful and generous donation from @scrubemupwithlove, our corridors are looking much more brighter and colorful. Our caregivers are enjoying these comfy and fun scrubs, and we are certainly loving the bright smiles!

It is heartwarming to be on the receiving end of thoughtful donations with such a profound meaning and intention behind the gift. ‘Scrub ‘em up with love’ is a campaign by Factory X to say THANK YOU to all front line workers that have tirelessly worked to benefit the health and well-being of our community for the past two years. These scrubs have been designed in this season’s most-loved prints from Gorman, Dangerfield and Princess Highway. Factory X will be donating 20,000 scrubs to hospitals all around Australia.

Farewell Gail!

Today we said farewell to a much loved caregiver. After 25 years of service, Gail Dunstan has decided to retire and spend time with her children and grandchildren. It has been a true pleasure having her as part of the Executive Admin team. She has seen the hospital grow and undergo several redevelopments, and the hospital certainly won’t be the same without her smiling face.

We wish her the best and hope she enjoys the many adventures that await her in retirement!

Kindness Kart Back in December 2021 we had launched our Kindness Kart. This is an initiative supported by the St John of God Foundation and Kane Constructions. The Kindness Kart is a wellness initiative and will be circulated around the hospital from time to time. The Kindness Kart will have healthy snacks and refreshments available for caregivers during busy times.

The Kindness Kart has most recently been to ICU, ED, and 3West. If you feel your team needs a boost of energy during a busy day, kindly let Taanya Widdicombe or Vanessa Tran know and the Kart will be arranged to be brought up to your ward.

Reminder: Mandatory compliance

All caregivers should maintain 100% compliance at all time and can monitor their overall Mandatory Compliance through MyLearning.

Learning and Development are offering face-to-face mandatory assessment sessions for BLS and MH. Please see attached memo for the 2022 timetable. These sessions can be booked through the MyLearning system.

It is not difficult or expensive to be eco-friendly.

It just takes a lifestyle change, breaking old habits and practice. By making small changes we can make a difference to the environment.

Swap printing paper for reading on the screen.

Australia consumes around 4 million tonnes of paper and cardboard each year which equates to 200kg per person each year.

I was admitted at SJG emergency for some treatment. I just wanted to formally say thank you to Dr Damien and all the nurses and staff that assisted me today. It got quite busy quickly for them and they really looked after me despite having a lot to do. If you could pass this on to your staff I would really appreciate it.

Coming into hospital on your own for major surgery is quiet daunting. From the moment entered the hospital all staff from reception desk to ward were efficient and helpful. The nursing staff were very caring and I felt I could not have been in a better place.
