Keeping In Touch 10 December 2021

We are certainly on the countdown to Christmas now, with only 15 days to go! We are appreciative of how hard everyone is working but hope our cheeky little elves have given you a few smiles and laughs this week.

Scholarshop presentations We were pleased to present scholarships to our nursing post graduate recipients to assist in their career development and progression. Our vision is to support and invest in our greatest asset, our people. We wish our recipients and all who are continuing their education journey to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Congratulations to Gaston Primus (CCU), Stacey Stipcevich (WHU), Sophie Brandon (ICU), Meg Donnelly (3East), Ebony Rolph (ED) and Shannon Barrett (CCU)!!

Caregiver of the Month - November 2021 Big CONGRATULATIONS to Sue Heath from the Wexford Therapy Centre on receiving the Caregiver of the Month award! “Sue is always there with a happy smile and energy. She actively engages with caregivers, patients and others. I often walk by and see Sue out of her seat in front of the desk speaking with, guiding or assisting patients. Twice now I have seen her empathetically listening, holding the hands of patients who are sharing their stories with her. She is a happy, welcoming face of SJGGH and someone I am proud to work alongside.” If one of your team members is going the extra mile - put your nomination in by the end of the month to GLExecAdmin@sjog.org.au. The nomination form can be found on CORA.

What champions are made of... Angus Crust (ICU ANUM) was awarded 2nd place in the ‘Classic Physique’ class of the ICN 2021 Southern Cross Pro/Am Championships in Ballarat. Following years of training, Angus commenced competition preparation six months ago. Combination of strict calorie intake and strength training regime saw Angus transform from 117kgs to 79kgs. Congratulations for achieving amazing results! If you or anyone in your team has achieved something great in their personal lives, we want to hear about it. Send us your story GLMarketing@sjog.org.au

Silent Auction: Brilliant effort everyone!

Well done to everyone who participated in the Silent Auction! We raised $3000!! A wonderful effort from our Hospital Auxiliary team in sourcing the variety of items our caregivers bid on. Funds raised through the silent auction will be donated directly to our hospital for the purchase of a Cuddle Bed (valued at $28,000) for patients in palliative care. Cuddle Beds help to remove physical barriers during end of life care, giving intimate connection and comfort to both critically ill patients and their loved ones. If you were the top bidder on an item and have yet to collect, please do so by end of next week. Payment can be made at the Exec Admin (Level 1) between Mon-Fri 9am-5pm.

Green Group: Swapportunities It is not difficult or expensive to be eco-friendly. It just takes a lifestyle change, breaking old habits and practice. By making small changes we can make a difference to the environment. Swap disposable coffee cups for reusable coffee cups. Café Costa is now accepting reusable coffee cups again. Australian’s throw out 1 billion coffee cups with lids each year. When you break this number down it is 2.7 million each day.

Sharing some Christmas joy with those in need..

All caregivers are invited to contribute to this year’s Christmas collection for the vulnerable in our community. Every contribution is an act of kindness that will remind someone that they are not forgotten. This year we will be supporting the Salvation Army and The Orange Door. The Orange Door is a free service for adults, children and young people who are experiencing or have experienced family violence and families who need extra support with the care of children. Baskets and boxes have been provided to your respective wards and departments. These will be collected week commencing 20 December 2021. The food and items collected will be distributed through our Doorways program at 26-28 Bellarine Street Geelong.

I found the admission staff and reception very friendly and caring on arrival. The nurse at admission answered all my queries openly and honestly that gave me comfort in what to expect. While I waited in the cubicle, it was pleasing to have the privacy I needed, and also the nurses checking in to ensure I was comfortable. The theatre nurses were warm and chatty. Great staff, excellent hospital.

What our patients had to say about us this week... Day Surgery Unit Patient feedback
