Pressure Injury Cake Off: Winner!

With the right knowledge and care, pressure injuries can be avoided. STOP Pressure Injusry Day raises awareness of pressure injuries and how to prevent them. All health professionals, carers, family members and patients have important roles to play in pressure injury prevention.

On Thursday 18th November we held a Pressure Injury Cake Off, and we had some very interesting cupcake entries.

Bronwyn Day from Day Surgery won 1st place with her incredible ‘Stages of Pressure Injury’ cupcakes entry and won yummy Daniel’s Donuts for her Day Stay team.

Eliza Demopoulos was a worthy runner up with her pressure injury cupcakes entry. Her team on 3 East enjoyed afternoon tea with Daniel’s Donuts.

Green Group: Update Great news…!

The first bundle of disposable hover matts are ready to be sent to the wildlife resume program.

New scholarship for female clinical cargivers

The Sister Bridget Clancy scholarship for the empowerment of women through education, sponsored by the Sisters of St John of God, supports career development and professional growth, and continues the legacy and vision of the courageous women who founded St John of God Health Care.

The scholarship is named after Sister Bridget Clancy to recognise her critical role as one of the founding Sisters.

The scholarship, which is open to female clinical caregivers registering for undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications in selected fields, aims to reward and recognise performance excellence, support talent management and enable caregivers to make strong and positive contributions to the life of St John of God Health Care.

To apply for this new scholarship, caregivers need to be a permanent employee with at least 12 months’ continuous service, able to demonstrate strong performance and be either enrolled in their studies or demonstrate intent to enrol.

Applications close on Friday 26 November 2021, with the inaugural winners announced in 2022. For more information on which clinical fields are eligible and how to apply, please visit ‘Scholarships’ on Cora.

Yoga: Relax. Breathe. Unwind.

Yoga and Meditation can have huge benefits for physical and mental wellbeing. As part of Mental Health Month October, Emma Hay (your Policy Coordinator and secret certified Yoga Teacher) will lead you through a gentle yoga practice (no mat required).

Join her on Thursday 25 November and Monday 29 November in the Bayview Lounge at the Wexford Centre, Level 1.

Register your interest via the link below and learn simple yoga poses to relax your shoulders, neck and back. No specific clothing requirements needed, just perhaps a shirt/top that allows for some unrestricted movement.

Please work within your limitations and take into consideration any current injuries. If need be, seek medical advice before participation.

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is celebrated from 18-24 November every year.

The 2021 theme, Spread Awareness, Stop Resistance, calls on Health stakeholders, policymakers, health care providers, and the general public to be Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness champions.

Over the last 12 months COVID has been the main infection control focus. However, the overuse of antimicrobials remains a global concern. The World Health Organisation estimated that by 2050 antimicrobial resistance will contribute to 10 million deaths per year.

If you would like to go in the running to win a nice bottle of wine and chocolates please answer the attached quiz and either send it to Carol Rosevear via email or print it off and put it in the internal mail. Don’t forget to put your name on the quiz and a winner will be announced on Wednesday 24 November.
