At SJCG’s Bethammi Nursing Home and Hogarth Riverview Manor, the Centre for Applied Health Research (CAHR), a research and evaluation department at SJCG, is collaborating with Dr. Shane Sinclair, Founder and Director of the Compassion Research Lab at the University of Calgary to develop a new tool to measure compassionate care in long-term care.

Improvement Opportunity

In LTC at SJCG’s Bethammi Nursing Home and Hogarth Riverview Manor, many residents live with conditions such as dementia or brain injury that make it difficult to share their care experiences directly.

So the question is.... How do we measure compassionate care for LTC residents who can’t tell us themselves?

A Solution in Progress

At SJCG, the CAHR research team, in collaboration with Dr. Shane Sinclair, are developing a care-partner version of the Sinclair Compassion Questionnaire (SCQ), called the SCQ-CP.

A Solution in Progress

At SJCG, the CAHR research team, in collaboration with Dr. Shane Sinclair, are developing a care-partner version of the Sinclair Compassion Questionnaire (SCQ), called the SCQ-CP.

A care-partner for a LTC resident is someone, usually a family member or close friend, who helps support the resident’s care and well-being.

A Solution in Progress

The care-partner version of the Sinclair Compassion Questionnaire (SCQ), the SCQ-CP, will ask care-partners to reflect on the compassionate care they believe the resident receives, essentially responding on behalf of residents who are unable to answer questions about their own care.
