San Jose Country Club is a place where heritage meets modern sophistication where time-honored traditions blend seamlessly with an elevated, welcoming experience.

Rooted in excellence and exclusivity yet approachable and friendly, the San Jose Country Club embodies a refined balance of bold energy and classic charm

Our identity is ever-evolving, shaped by our community's passion and our members' unique expressions.

wwwsjccjaxcom

Dear Members,

Stewarding Our Legacy

I would like to thank everyone who attended our first Quarterly Town Hall on April 22 We had strong participation both in person and virtually, and we appreciate the engagement, thoughtful questions, and candid feedback. These sessions are an important step in strengthening transparency and creating more direct communication between the Board and our membership.

During the Town Hall, we shared an update on our 2026 strategy and progress through the first quarter Overall, we are off to a strong start, with meaningful progress across our four key 2026 focus areas: Master Planning, Member Experience & Engagement, Financial Discipline, and Governance & Transparency

Master Planning

A major priority for 2026 is defining the longterm vision for the Club. In April, Andrew Green presented the first draft of the Golf Course Master Plan, with the project focused on restoring key Donald Ross design elements, improving playability, and longterm sustainability At the same time, work continues with ELM on the Facilities Master Plan as we evaluate opportunities across the entire campus These are multi-year efforts that will provide future Boards and members with the flexibility to thoughtfully plan and phase projects over time.

Member Experience & Engagement

We are actively addressing feedback from the member survey. This includes continued improvement in golf course conditions, strong participation in member events, and focused efforts to enhance food and beverage consistency, service, and overall experience.

We are also making progress on key facility improvements, with pool projects, including marcite work and bathroom enhancements, now nearing completion, which will enhance the overall pool experience as we head into the summer season

To improve engagement and transparency, we have introduced Quarterly Town Halls, committee spotlights, newsletter enhancements and a more structured communication cadence to ensure members have greater visibility into Board priorities and decisions. We are seeing encouraging participation and thoughtful dialogue, which is exactly what we hoped to achieve.

The survey made it clear where we have opportunities, particularly in dining, pool facilities, and overall value and we are taking action in those areas Our goal is simple: deliver a consistently high-quality experience while maintaining a strong, engaged membership

Financial Highlights

During the Q1 Town Hall, we also provided an update on the Club’s financial performance. Through the first quarter, the Club is performing ahead of plan year-to-date, reflecting continued focus on operational discipline and strong member usage and activity.

We also continue to make progress on our long-term financial obligations, with debt projected to be fully paid down by 2029, along with a focus on maintaining appropriate reserves and avoiding special assessments through disciplined planning

Overall, our approach remains consistent maintaining strong financial discipline today while planning responsibly for the Club’s long-term investment needs.

Governance and Transparency

We began the year focused on becoming a more effective, transparent, and disciplined Board. This included completing our Board retreat, aligning on governance best practices and strategic priorities, and establishing clear committee goals tied directly to the Strategic Plan. While much of this work is foundational, it is critical to how we operate moving forward.

As we shared at the Town Hall, this is just the beginning We expect to continue building momentum throughout the year and will keep you informed along the way

Thank you for your continued engagement and support

See you at the Club!

Club Chronicles

As part of our continued efforts to maintain and enhance the quality of our Club facilities, we will be completing a tile replacement project in the main hallway this July This work is scheduled to take place during the Golf Course closure from July 6th through July 27th, allowing us to efficiently address both projects within the same timeframe and minimize overall disruption to the membership.

Over time, many of you may have noticed that sections of tile in the front portion of the Club have become loose. If left unaddressed, this condition would continue to deteriorate and could impact both the appearance and safety of our Clubhouse Fortunately, this issue has been identified as a product defect, and we are pleased to share that the tile replacement will be completed at minimal cost to the Club under warranty

While the Club will remain op throughout the duration of this proje members should expect some tempor adjustments to daily operations and tra flow within the building.

Our team is working closely with contractors to thoughtfully plan around key service areas and programming to ensure we maintain the highest level of member experience possible during construction

We recognize that any construction project brings a level of inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important improvement. A more detailed outline of operational changes, access points, and programming adjustments will be communicated in June and in the weeks leading up to the start of construction.

Thank you for your continued support as we invest in the long-term quality and functionality of San Jose Country Club

Course Playability and Updates Member Experience/ELM/Andrew Green

Thank you Evan!

As most of you know by now, Evan Archer is leaving San Jose Country Club to become the Vice President of Operations at Rex Golf in Jax Beach Evan joined us about 6 years ago and has done an amazing job as our Assistant Pro and more importantly, has become a friend to all of us His work with our junior programs has helped to shape our young members into wonderful golfers and heled to teach them the etiquette and values that will carry into their lives as they become young adults. He has also taken on the role of our head merchandiser and done a great job bringing that elite feel to our clothing, hat, and accessory selection.

We could go on and on about all the great things Evan has done and we will feel his impact for years to come

We wish you the best in this new stage of your career and will always cherish his time here at San Jose Country Club!

Course Playability Updates

The early season nematode challenges, which were highlighted during The Classic, have been effectively addressed, and our plan is currently yielding positive results

The health of our greens remains our top priority With the reduction in nematode activity, our Grounds Care Management team has been diligently grooming and brushing the greens to minimize grain and enhance the quality of the putting surfaces.

Course is DRY

Although the course is in great shape now, it is VERY dry

At the moment, we are in a drought and our 1986 era irrigation can’t keep

Member Experience/ELM/Andrew Green:

Andrew Green- First Draft Presented on April 16th

Andrew gave the committee a highlevel overview of his master plan

The next draft will come in June/July, with a final plan presented to the membership by year end

Guest Experience: We are working hard to elevate this. When bringing guests, please let the shop know their names and e-mails!

Todd is working hard to staff the shop after Evans' departure and is currently interviewing candidates

Todd is also talking to design experts about how best to lay out our pro shop! We are still evaluating options and obtaining quotes for consumables (e.g., range caddies, coolers).

Every committee is talking about member experience and how we can improve

Please give us your input!

Spring on the Course: Play, Performance & Club Highlights

Spring is here at San Jose Country Club, and it is one of the most exciting times of the year to be out enjoying the golf course I encourage everyone to take full advantage of the season get out, practice, and invest in your game. Remember, you are always one swing away from finding it. Beyond your swing, consider complementing your work with TPI training sessions through our fitness team to improve strength, mobility, and overall performance As the course enters peak growing season, it is more important than ever that each of us takes pride in proper player care repairing ball marks, filling divots, raking bunkers, and disposing of trash appropriately Simply put, we should all strive to leave the course in better condition than we found it

A quick reminder on several important club policies to ensure a consistent and respectful experience for all. Proper golf attire is required at all times: men and boys must keep shirts tucked in, workout gear and blue jeans are not permitted on the golf course or practice areas, and leggings for ladies may only be worn under a skirt or skort Irons are not permitted for chipping at the practice putting green

Additionally, local guests are limited to six rounds per year, and guest passes may not be used until after 12:00 pm on Saturdays and holidays, and after 10:00 am on Sundays

It is our responsibility as a professional staff to enforce these standards, and we ask for your partnership in ensuring your family members and guests are aware to help avoid any uncomfortable situations.

Finally, congratulations are in order for several outstanding performances around the club.

Shar Donovan captured the Ladies 9-Hole Match Play Championship, while Tonia Yazgi claimed the SJLGA 18-Hole Match Play title Congratulations as well to Cary Helton and the “1 Putt Wonders” on their victory in the Winter Bork League Looking ahead, the Lion’s Pride Men’s MemberGuest (May 14–16) is fully subscribed with a waiting list, and we appreciate your cooperation as the course will be closed during the championship.

We look forward to a fantastic spring season and hope to see you all out enjoying the course.

Warm Regards,
