FROM THE PRESIDENT
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you who attended our recent Annual Meeting Your participation and engagement are essential to the success of our club, and we appreciate your input and support as we work to make the San Jose Country Club the best it can be For those of you who joined us virtually, a special thank you for your patience as we worked through technical difficulties. All the material from the presentation has been posted on the website. Please let us know if you need help.
I am happy to report that the construction of tennis courts 1 and 2, including the new Pickleball courts, is on schedule to be completed on time by the end of March. We are excited to provide this new recreational option for our members. If you are interested in learning more about Pickleball or how to get involved in playing at San Jose, please reach out to your tennis staff. The pros have all been certified for Pickleball instruction and are excited about the opportunity to introduce the fastest growing sport in America to San Jose Country Club
As we begin preparations for pool season, you may notice some construction activity around the pool facility in the coming weeks We are converting the pool to saltwater and will be installing new equipment to make the transition This upgrade will improve the quality of our pool water and reduce our environmental impact
Someone told me the groundhog saw his shadow last month, meaning below average temperatures for February and March I don’t want to jinx us, but boy did he get it wrong for February in Florida! We have been experiencing unseasonably hot weather, which has provided a great opportunity for more play on the golf course, and we expect the same as we move into Day Light Savings this month. We are continuing to see a rise in the number of rounds per day, which means more opportunities for player care. I respectfully request that all golfers please consciously look for opportunities to leave the course better than you found it.If you are filling your divot, please look for one more to fill. As you approach your ball on the green, find an extra pitch mark to repair. Please rake the bunkers or help your playing partners do so if it speeds up play. I think sometimes it can be easy to get zoned in on your round and forget course care at times. I’m as guilty as they come during my rounds, which is why I encourage my playing partners to politely remind me if I ever get oblivious. I encourage you to ask the same of your group!
I want to remind all members that we have several upcoming events and activities to look forward to, including the Par 3 Glow Golf event and St Patrick’s Pub Party Information and registration for these events as well as our Event calendar are always available on our website and Mobile App

Even though it seems like we did not really have much of a winter this year, so far anyway. Our winters generally consist of a few cold days and maybe a frost or two. Like this past Christmas, we had six days with the low temperatures in the 20’s and 30’s but less than seven days later we were back to the 80 degree highs during the day Most of our winters issues stem from low light situations especially near the winter solstice when the sun is only 38 degrees above the horizon. Low light along with shade equals no light for some areas, i.e., #14 tee area.
This is our winter damage that will usually be noticeable until late spring and even into early summer. Below is a short but eye opening article from the USGA Green Section on winter damage As we move closer to the equinox daylight hours get longer and the temperatures warmer, it’s great for golf but no one like to see it more than a North Florida Golf Course Superintendent.

As I begin writing this article for our Club’s March newsletter, it’s mid-February and the mercury is already pushing 90!! It’s a hot and humid reminder that while we may still be deep in the throes of winter, pool season is right around the corner.
There are many different great motivators out there when it comes to exercise and each has its merits, but there is one motivator that seems to consistently drive people as warm weather starts to increase, vanity. Everyone wants to feel good about how they look and as soon as we start shedding those ugly Christmas sweaters and winter parkas for bathing suits, the desire to feel good about looking good can be a very powerful motivator.
While all of our professional fitness/wellness staff work to encourage and foster a balanced, healthful, and enduring approach to our members physical fitness, we will take motivated members however we can get 'em! So whatever your motivation, be it a beach body, guns that point the way to the show, or something more modest, come talk to one of our amazing personal trainers and take advantage of the incredible wealth of knowledge they have to help you best accomplish your Fitness and Wellness goals. Also, this month we have a class that all of our animal lovers won’t want to miss Goat Yoga! This class will be held Saturday March 25th at 8:30am on the event lawn; mark your calendars and be sure not to miss out We have much more planned throughout the year, so keep an eye out and come have some fun while you exercise in 2023!
