Dear San Jose Country Club Members,
This year, we are proud to celebrate two major milestones in the rich and vibrant history of San Jose Country Club, 100 years of our iconic Donald Ross designed golf course and 78 years since the completion of our beloved clubhouse. Nestled in the heart of Jacksonville, Florida, San Jose Country Club has been a cherished institution since 1925, offering a timeless blend of tradition, community, and excellence.
Originally envisioned by the legendary golf course architect Donald Ross, our championship course has stood the test of time with its classic design, strategic play, and natural beauty. It opened its fairways in 1925 and has since provided a picturesque and challenging course for golfers of all levels. Walking these historic greens means stepping into a century of golf legacy where countless stories have been written and unforgettable rounds have been played.
In 1947, the cornerstone of our community the San Jose clubhouse was officially completed, becoming the hub of social connection, celebration, and lifelong memories for generations of members and their families. For nearly eight decades, the clubhouse has hosted countless weddings, family events, tournaments, and community gatherings, cementing its role as the heart of the club and a cornerstone of Jacksonville’s social scene.
San Jose Country Club is more than just a golf course it’s a place where traditions are passed down, lifelong friendships are made, and family memories are created. From the Spanish-style architecture and tree lined fairways to the warm, welcoming atmosphere, the Club remains a cherished gem of Jacksonville, rooted in excellence and poised for the future.
With Heartfelt Appreciation, The San Jose Country Club Team
As we celebrate 100 years of golf and 78 years of club life, we honor the generations who came before us and look forward to the many more to come. Here’s to a century of excellence and the next chapter in the legacy of San Jose Country Club.

Dear San Jose Members,
Here Is An Important Turf Care Reminder from the USGA (Information sourced from USGA.org)
Golf cart traffic is one of the most common causes of turf damage especially near fairway bunkers, greens, and high traffic entry/exit points from cart paths Turf damage is significantly worse when grass is under stress due to drought, heat, shade, frost, or poor growing conditions
The USGA notes that in a recent study, even just four cart passes per week caused visible turf thinning due to compaction and wear Multiply that by the 100+ carts that may go out daily, and it’s easy to see why certain areas of the course suffer
Key Ways Cart Traffic Damages the Course:
Soil Compaction: Repeated traffic increases soil bulk density, especially in wet or soft soils
Poor Drainage: Compaction reduces water movement through the soil
Turf Thinning: Tire abrasion leads to discoloration and thinning, especially in stressed turf
What
Cart Path Only: Carts should stay on the path when turf is under stress.
Respect All Ropes, Stakes, and Signs: They’re in place to protect vulnerable turf and spread out wear
2 Carts per Foursome: Fewer carts = less damage
Use Cart Paths on Par 3s: A simple way to reduce traffic in key areas
Rotate Traffic Patterns: Avoid following the same paths to help grass recover
Park Smart: Always keep all four tires on the path, especially near tees and greens
We understand that restrictions may not always be convenient, but they are necessary to ensure excellent playing conditions year-round.
So next time you ’ re out on the course, please follow the rules, lead by example, and encourage others to do the same Together, we can protect the beauty and playability of our Donald Ross-designed golf course for future generations
Cordially,
Josh Urbanec Golf Course Superintendent
Aerification COMPLETE and our Donald Ross Course has never looked better!
Huge shoutout to our incredible Golf Course Maintenance Team for their hard work, passion, and dedication this stunning course wouldn’t be the same without you!
We celebrated our rockstar crew with a well-deserved luncheon by Executive Chef Michael Ayres

We’re thrilled to welcome Jeff Hewitt back to the SJCC family as our new Fitness Director! A proud product of San Jose Catholic and Bishop Kenny, Jeff brings a deep-rooted connection to our community and a lifelong passion for sports and wellness.

After wrapping up his playing career, he transitioned into the fitness industry, where he discovered a true calling: helping others become the best version of themselves
Now back at San Jose, Jeff is eager to elevate both the Fitness Center and Aquatics programs to new heights. With a drive for excellence and a heart for community, he’s ready to bring a whole new energy to the club He’s excited to reconnect, meet new faces, and raise the bar to what he likes to call The San Jose Standard. Let’s do this! Be sure to stop by the Fitness Center and say hello Jeff can’t wait to meet you!

Sprinkles
Slice your apples about 3/4″ thick. Use a knife, corer, or pastry tip to make a hole in the center. Color you cream cheese if you’d like. We just added a drop of neon food coloring to get these bright colors. Add sprinkles. That’s pretty much it! Enjoy this healthier “donut” for kids that makes a yummy and adorable snack.
