Dear San Jose Country Club Members,
Since our clubs founding in 1925, San Jose Country Club has stood as a proud symbol of Southern golf tradition. From its storied Donald Ross designed course to the warm community that has made SJCC a Jacksonville institution, the club has gracefully evolved with the times while staying true to its roots.
When the course first opened in the 1920s, golf was a walking game. Players and caddies navigated the undulating fairways on foot, as intended by Donald Ross himself. For decades, caddies were the norm at SJCC, carrying bags and offering advice an essential part of the experience.
Golf carts began appearing at clubs across America in the 1950s, originally designed for golfers with disabilities. As technology improved and demand grew, carts became more common throughout the 1960s and 70s. SJCC began introducing electric golf carts around this time initially as a limited amenity before becoming an integral part of the club’s daily play.
By the 1980s, golf carts had become a standard feature of play at San Jose, and cart paths were added and expanded to accommodate regular cart use without damaging the historic Ross designed turf.
Today, SJCC’s modern fleet of E-Z-GO electric golf carts offers members a smooth, quiet ride with upgraded technology, GPS tracking, and enhanced comfort. This year we recieved brand new E-Z-GO Carts and the club continues to balance the convenience of carts with preservation of course quality implementing smart cart policies, designated entry/exit points, and sustainable practices.
In keeping with tradition, San Jose remains walkable, and many members still enjoy playing the course on foot honoring its original intent and enjoying the game the old-fashioned way.
With Heartfelt Appreciation, The San Jose Country Club Team

Dear San Jose Members,
As fall approaches, we will soon begin our proactive preemergent program to combat Poa Annua.
We want to remind you that we are taking every possible step to prevent Poa on our golf course. While these measures may cause some damage to our bermudagrass such as yellowing, discoloration, and thinning of turf areas—please be assured that this is to be expected.
Our Poa is resistant to the safest herbicides available, so we will be using stronger products to keep Poa under control. Thank you for your understanding and support!
Thank you,
Cordially,
Josh Urbanec Golf Course Superintendent
