Introduction

Hello, fellow amigurumi lovers! I’m Chloe, the maker and dreamer behind EMI (Enjoy, Make, Inspire) Creations. Before I introduce you to this book, I’d love to share the journey that brought me here. It all began in 2019 when my best friend introduced me to the world of crochet and amigurumi. My curiosity was instantly piqued, and soon after, my husband gifted me my very first amigurumi kit. It had everything I needed to get started. I dove into YouTube tutorials and quickly became completely obsessed. I was amazed that with just a ball of yarn, a crochet hook, some stuffing, and my own two hands, I could create something truly magical. I was hooked (pun absolutely intended, you’ll find I can’t resist a good pun throughout this book)! By the end of 2020, I made a lifechanging decision, I left my career in architecture. I wasn’t happy and, honestly, crochet saved me. I spent my days crafting, and while I technically didn’t have a job, I felt a sense of peace I hadn’t known for years. In 2021, with the unwavering support of my husband, I took a leap of faith and launched my small business, designing and creating amigurumi full-time. I’ve never looked back. What started as

4

a hobby has become my passion, my healing space, and my creative outlet. I never imagined that I’d one day be doing what I love every single day, designing adorable amigurumi to share with the world. Which brings us to this very special moment, the release of my very first amigurumi book. I began working on this project while navigating life as a first-time mum. Over the past two years, I’ve poured my heart into this book, juggling the beautiful chaos of motherhood with the demands of writing, designing, and refining each pattern. It was not easy, but it has been one of the most rewarding journeys of my life. There are so many people to thank for helping me reach this milestone. First, to the team at Mixed Media Resources, thank you for reaching out and offering me this incredible opportunity. To my husband and daughter, my greatest sources of love and inspiration, thank you for being by my side through it all. To my amazing pattern testers, Lysa Rohrer (@lqrcrafts), Louisa Wong Sze May (@make_n_stitch), Marlene Galván Rincón (@ashar_ handmade), Carmen Elsa Pérez Aragón (@carmengurumi), Colleen Jones (@colleenscreations_), Anika Kam (@handmade__byani), Yetty Sadikin (@faye_clover), Taylor Calimazzo (@taycalicrochet), Aires Hegarty (@lolalovestocrochet),

and Peggy Irvine (@peggy_irvine), your feedback and support have helped bring each creation to life with clarity and care. Finally, to my wonderful community, every like, share, comment, and creation you’ve made from my designs has meant the world to me. Your encouragement has truly brought this book to life. I’m so proud of the patterns I’ve created for this book. I’ve always loved food and animals, so naturally, I combined the two into fun and whimsical designs that I hope bring joy to your crochet journey. Whether you’re a seasoned maker or picking up a hook for the first time, I hope this book inspires you to create, to enjoy, and to keep making. I can’t wait to see what you’ll make. With lots of love,

Chloe

Closing a Hole When you've finished crocheting an amigurumi piece and added the stuffing, you'll often be left with a small opening that needs to be closed neatly. Using a simple sewing technique, you can create a smooth, seamless finish that blends perfectly with the rest of the piece.

1. After completing final round, cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull tail through last loop to fasten off securely and thread it into a yarn needle. Insert needle under front loop only of one of the stitches around the opening.

2. Continue around the opening, inserting needle into all front loops.

3. Gently pull yarn tail to tighten. The stitches should come together and close the opening.

4. Weave in loose end.

Closing a Flattened Piece Some of my patterns will require you to close the open end of a piece that has been flattened, such as ears, limbs, or fins. Closing it neatly ensures that the shape holds and attaches smoothly to the main body of the project.

1. After finishing final round, flatten open end so stitches on both sides are aligned.

174 Stitches &Techniques

2. Single crochet through both loops across opening to close piece.

3. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
