From the President
This year, we asked our alumni and donors to imagine what SIU’s bright future holds. They responded by leading us to the best year in the history of the SIU Foundation!
Beyond setting fundraising records, we also extended the Forever SIU campaign to 2028 and set a new $500 million goal.

Raising half a billion dollars is no small task, and it will require continued support, but I’m confident we will succeed. During my time as president of the SIU Foundation Board of Directors, I’ve been so impressed by the dedicated Foundation staff and the generosity of our alumni and friends.
We hosted the first two Saluki Takeover Tours – one in Chicago and the other in St. Louis – and I was able to swap SIU stories and laugh with old friends while also making new ones. It was made clear to me that Saluki spirit spreads far beyond the borders of Southern Illinois, and the mantra “Once a Saluki, always a Saluki,” is as strong as ever.
While preparing for the first night of the St. Louis event, I sat in awe of our Day of Giving success. Donations of all sizes added up to more than $3.5 million! Our livestream event from the WSIU television studios was incredible, with participation and support from all over campus. Few days inspire more Saluki pride.
That exciting day was punctuated by Chancellor Austin Lane’s announcement of the campaign extension and numerous exciting events centered around the MVC men’s basketball tournament. Every corner in downtown St. Louis was covered in Saluki maroon.
As I reflect on the past year, I am encouraged by what I have experienced. The SIU Foundation truly works as an accelerator for the university, and we are prepared to move confidently toward major goals and inspire the next generation of students and alumni.
Salukis are capable of incredible things, and during my time as president it has been made clear that the best is yet to come. Thanks to all of you, when I imagine what comes next, I can’t help but smile.
With Saluki pride,
Matt Solverson President, SIU Foundation Board
