How Do You Live Past the Emotional, Verbal and Physical Abuse?

Living past the emotional, verbal, and physical abuse can be challenging for most people. Abuse is a touchy subject to talk about in some cultures and in some families its considered taboo; “What happens in our family stays in our family.” There is no need to seek a counselor, pastor, friend, or stranger, because the problem will go away—eventually, is what a family member would say.

How many of us who have experienced some form of abuse or are currently in an abusive situation, know that the problem never goes away? The problem may seem like it has gone away because things in life are going good for a moment or the person who is abusing you have not hit or said anything to you out of the way in a while, “life is grandy – right?” Just because there are no physical or verbal abuse going on doesn’t mean the problem has gone away. How many people right now reading this article truly knows the problem must be discussed in our life in order heal whole heartedly.

Sometimes the root of the problems goes way back to our ancestors and/or slavery days. Where a lot of incest took place, in families and nothing was said because of taboo, fear and death. Unfortunately, this vicious cycle has continued in many families today. Most women choose not to talk about it and are damaging their family, relationships, marriage and friendships when abuse goes unaddressed.

I want each person who was abused or are currently experiencing abuse to believe in your heart and soul that God loves you so much! God made you special and unique no other person is like you. God says you are the apple of his eye. He has great plans for your life.

God wants you to fulfill your purpose for His will in your life. When you don’t fulfill his purpose you are glorifying Satan’s purpose and not God’s.

To each person reading this article and experienced some form of abuse and blames yourself for the abuse. I want you to know the abuse inflicted was not your fault.

Trust me when I say that, I lived with that burden most of my life. Wondering, “what if I did this or what if I did that”

and all the time it was not my fault the abuse happened to me. It was so hard to go on in my life until I had to come to the conclusion that the abuse really wasn’t my fault. I was a victim that lay predator in my own home with my own parent. Once I realized this I had to change my thoughts, behaviors, patterns, circumstances and some friends, in order to begin a somewhat healthy life.

The first thing I did was seek God by reading spiritual books, seeking a church home, and speaking to spiritual people. After I started seeking God I began to feel better about myself. I started reading the word of God each day, little by little. I know it can be hard and you just don’t want to forgive that person because he or she has caused you a lot of pain, fear, self-worthiness, guilt, low self-esteem, gain or lose weight, depressed and antisocial. I know it’s difficult to forgive, because I lived with the same fears and questions you are living with or lived with.

However, reading the word of God was giving me peace, but there was something missing in order for me to move to the next level in my life. I searched and searched until I watched one of Tyler Perry’s movies “The Diary of a man black woman” and the one scene in there was the breaking and beginning of my life where forgiving someone sets you free even when you don’t want to forgive. I immediately started praying and saying “I forgive those who had anything to do with my past abuse.” I continued to say this until I meant it in my heart. Anybody can say they forgive a person but do you really mean it? I know I have said it and didn’t truly mean it. I did it just to get that person out of my face during that time. However, God has forgiven our sins each time we confess the sin I John 1:9 NIV “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteous” What happens to your sin when you are forgiven?

Psalms 103:2 NIV states “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” God never remembers the sin. Isn’t that great to know! What an AWESOME, loving God we serve, who continues to give us chance after chance to have

salvation—eternal life. Now ask yourself “Do you want God to forgive you because you forgave someone, or do you rather for God not to forgive you and hold the sin over your head?”

It is so important for us to forgive others, II Corithians 2: 7-11 NIV states “Instead you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. I urge you therefore to reaffirm your love for him. The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. If you forgive anyone I also forgive him, and what I have forgiven---in their sight of Christ for your sake. I order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.”

How much should we forgive those who hurt us?

Matthew 18:21-22 NIV states Then Peter come to Jesus and asked “Lord how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?

Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy times seven times.”

I speak about forgiveness in depth because forgiveness is so very important in life. It is very important to forgive those who did wrong in order to fulfill your purpose in life. I want you to understand that I had to forgive every person who abused me, including my father, mother, step-father, cousins, aunts and uncles.

I mean everybody in my entire family who knew I was getting abused and said “I must’ve did something for that person to abuse me. Or what did she wear to provoke him to touch her?” After hearing remarks like that I carried those comments in my mind every day until I let go and forgave and trusted God to work in my life. This was a bad emotional scar to carry each and every day in my life.

Thought after thought, relationship after relationship, I felt pain, discouragement, guilt, frustration and heartache.

Although forgiveness is a choice, we choose to hold on to pain. Holding on to pain leave you bitter, angry, frustrated, fearful, painful, resentful, untrusting, unloving, unapproachable, emotionally unstable, unkind, ungrateful and vengeful. All these mentioned are not the fruit of the spirit of God, please recognize and understand this is Satan’s team of imps. Satan wants

you in the darkness. Satan doesn’t want you in the light.

Psalms 119-105 NIV “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

First of all talk about the abuse, the hurt and confide in a close friend or relative please seek an anonymous person who will not be judgmental and tell them what’s going on. If you can seek counseling please do so quickly. The more you talk about the abuse the more you will feel better about yourself. Talking about the past pain helps you heal on the inside.

Secondly, know your value in life. You are a woman of God and are BEAUTIFUL inside and outside! Take the time to look in the mirror and admire your beauty. Look at you and smile brightly, remember God loves you dearly.

Third of all ask the Lord to teach and show you his will and purpose for your life. Psalms 51:6 NIV [David says] The Lord desires truth in the inner parts you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. David is saying the Lord can move in your life with His power of healing if you let him. The Lord also teaches us wisdom in our inmost place. The Lord pulls the bad root from your heart and gives you his love which is the fruit of the spirit.

Jeremiah 31:34 NIV states “No longer will a man teach his neighbor or a man his brother saying ‘know the Lord;’ because they will all know me from the least of them to the greatest declares the Lord. For I will forgive their wickedness and I will remember their sins no more.

I am not saying this will happen overnight, because it won’t. It will happen slowly once you start realizing your value and know that God truly loves you and he always wants the best for you in life. Once you forgive a burden will lift off your shoulders and you will have peace in your mind, body, and heart.

Motivation to Obtain Your Goals How do you stay motivated and on track with your goal? It all comes down to good planning, realistic expectations, and a stick-to-it attitude. Here's what you need to do: First, know your goal. Start by writing down your major goal. Your major goal is the ultimate thing you'd like to see happen. For example, "I want to make honor roll," is a major goal because they're the final thing the goal setter wants to see happen. It's OK to dream big. That's how people accomplish stuff. You just have to remember that the bigger the goal, the more work it takes to get there.

Make it specific. Make it specific by defining what you want to achieve (such as muscle tone and definition or endurance), why you want to get fit, and by when. This helps you make a plan to reach your goal.

Make it realistic. People often abandon their goals because their expectations are unreasonable.

Write it down. Put your specific goal in writing. Then write it down again. And again.

Break it down. Making any change takes self-discipline. You need to pay constant attention so you don't get sidetracked. One way to make this easier is to break a big goal into small steps.

Girls discover that they have value and that life has worth. Vista Maria becomes a place where girls can take their greatest fears and turn them into their greatest strengths.

20% of high school girls ages 14-18 report being hit, slapped, shoved or forced into sexual activity by a dating partner (Journal of the American Medical Association, 2001).



According to recent studies, violence against girls is a serious concern as it now affects 1 in 3 girls in the United States. The violence can in the form of physical, sexual, or verbal abuse. For girls, their perpetrator is more likely to be someone they know, feel close to or even love, including a boyfriend or family member.



Girls aged 16 to 19 are four times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault (National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) designed by the U.S. Department of Justice (2000).



The National College Women Sexual Victimization Study estimated that between 1 in 4 and 1 in 5 college women experience completed or attempted rape during their college years (Fisher 2000).

LIVING IN THE OVERFLOW OF PURITY

Menstral Rag or Fine Linen

Everyone knows that a menstrual rag is to be used and tossed. Whereas, fine linen has great value and is a keepsake. God did not intend for women to be treated like menstrual rags; He intended for them to be treasured and desired like fine linen. In America, more and more women are being looked at as sex objects instead of the treasures that God created them to be.

Men are using women for their pleasure and tossing them aside, used, unclean, and often damaged for life. A gentleman used to date a woman so he could see if she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, the one who would compliment his life. He treated her with the respect she deserved. The sexual union was reserved for the marriage bed to bond a couple for life.

Now, many men want to date women to use them with no responsibility intended. They have their “fun” and then toss “their woman” aside and look for another one to use. Many are going so far as to want “friends with benefits” (sex with absolutely no commitment). The sad fact is that when women are used and discarded, the women and children suffer the most.

Women are emotional beings and have a strong desire to be loved and cherished. They suffer emotionally when there is a breakup. God created the hormone oxytocin which creates a strong bonding between two people causing them to have a “oneness.” It is released from the pituitary gland during intimate talking, touching, cuddling, kissing, and during sex. The more talking, touching, cuddling, kissing, and sexual activity you have, the stronger the bond becomes. When a couple split up, it can bring the woman great distress causing depression, low self-esteem, and even suicide. Having the bond and oneness that God intended only comes from being with one person for life.

Another extremely serious concern is the amount of STDs/STIs being transmitted due to sexual activity (contact with the genital area including anal and oral activity) outside the marriage bed. These diseases and infections are causing serious health issues, infertility, and even death in women. Many STIs are incurable, meaning you will have them for life. Annually, there are

over 19 million new STIs in the United States (1). One in two sexually active persons will contact an STD/STI by the age 25 (1). According to Centers for Disease Control, in 2009 alone there were 12,357 women diagnosed with cervical cancer and 3,909 died from it (2). There is no condom, pill, or shot than can totally prevent you from contracting a STD/STI. Many times men have no symptoms causing them to unknowingly pass an STD/STI to all the women they use. Not only are women affected, innocent children suffer, as well. A pregnant woman with an STD can go into early labor, deliver a still born child, or cause the baby to have neurologic problems, blindness, liver disease, and more (3).

When a woman with children is abandoned, the children suffer. Currently, there are over 10 million single mothers trying to raise their children, up from 3.4 million in 1970 (4). Children in single-mother homes are more likely to live in poverty, have lower grades, take drugs, spend time in jail, and suffer emotionally. Another devastating fact is that because many men do not want to take on the responsibility of raising a family and women are afraid to raise children solo, over a million babies are aborted annually never having the opportunity to live outside of the womb. Is all of this worth some temporary pleasure?

God created the beauty of a woman. It is up to you to determine what you will do with your beauty. You can use your good looks to attract men who will use you for their sexual satisfactions and when they have had their fill, discard you. Or, you can save yourself for the man you will spend the rest of your life with being cherished and considered priceless. How will you use the beauty that God has given you?

There are a number of safeguards to help you be a woman who is treasured. First, I would watch how you dress. Your clothes send out a message. When you dress modestly, you are inviting respect. If your dress is skimpy (low cut shirts, short-shorts and dresses, bare midriffs, and bikinis), believe me, you will attract men,

but they will be men who want to use you. The more revealing your clothes are, the more you will be looked at as an object instead of a person. When a woman is looked at as an object, it is easier to abuse her because objects do not have feelings. A man who looks at a woman as a lifetime partner and not a sex object is more likely to be responsible, selfless, faithful, and caring. He waits to have a relationship until he is ready to take on the responsibility of a family and saves intimacy for his marriage bed.

Next, I would wait to date until you are both ready to be married. This may sound like a crazy statement, but early dating is one of the reasons our country is in the mess it is. Adolescents are not ready to take on the responsibility of a family; therefore, building a bond with someone you may not spend the rest of your life with can be dangerous. You may compromise your values in order not to lose the person you are dating, often leading to the severe consequences presented earlier. When a couple begin to get intimate and the young man is not ready for a commitment, often he will break the relationship causing the girl intense emotional pain.

Waiting to date until you are ready to be married saves you and your future children from a great deal of heartache.

Lastly, it is important to pay close attention to who a person is before you begin to date. Actions speak louder than words. Words can be deceitful. Do not date someone just because they like you. Date someone who

has the characteristics you are looking for in a husband.

Be picky! It is worth the wait. Some of the characteristics you should look for are: He puts God first (living for Christ, not just saying it), is a hard worker, is a giving person, and is respectful to others. He should not be easily angered or controlling. Watching for these qualities in a person before you date helps you know if you will be forsaken or cherished. Also, when you begin to date, if a male wants intimacy early on, chances are, he wants to use you. If he does not respect the fact that you do not want to get physical, end the relationship quickly.

It is time for women to take a stand and demand to be valued the way God intended them to be. Let it begin with you. Start today by putting your safeguards in place to protect your beauty and purity! You may get laughed at along the way, but in the end that laughter will turn to envy. Maybe you are a woman who has been used and tossed. That does not have to be you any longer. You are still special and of great value. God has more in store for you than to be used. Today is a new day, a new beginning! May you use your beauty in a way that brings glory to the name of Christ.

So you have a new Boo and things have been going pretty smoothly. You have decided that he is a keeper and the two of you are pretty much in sync with one another. It's been a couple of months and now you ready to take the next step...introducing him to your child. Hold up! Wait a minute, Cowgirl! There are something’s that you should consider before going to that rodeo.

They were not trying to be his father but that they would be nice to him. He seemed to understand and like that better. 1. IS YOUR CHILD READY? 2. ARE YOU & YOUR BOO COMMITTED? Is your child ready to "share" you? That is exactly what your child will believe they are doing. If you have one child, like I do, your child may feel like your new Boo is taking your attention, especially if it's only been the "two" of you for quite some time.

When I mentioned to my son that my "friend" would be coming over, my son quickly informed me "I don't want a Dad!" To say that I was taken aback would be an understatement. My son equated any man who came into my life as being a "Dad" and he was having none of

If the answer to this question is "NO" then don't bother introducing your child to your Boo. It doesn't make any sense to introduce your child to someone who you aren't even serious about. It will only confuse your child if someone is "here today and gone tomorrow." If you and your Boo have decided that you are committed, then and only then, should you introduce your child to him. example, and you introduce your new boyfriend to your children, they can immediately attach themselves to that man because they may be really hungry for male attention. If your new boyfriend bonds with your kids, and then you break up, he's suddenly gone from their lives. And then you date the next man and bring him by, and before you know it, it can seem like "revolving door dads" to your kids, who may feel abandoned or confused."

4. MAKE SURE YOUR BOO UNDERSTANDS YOUR “RULES”

3. TALK TO YOUR CHILD Once you have decided that you are your Boo are committed, have some conversations with your child about the situation.

Explain to your child that you have a friend that you will be going out with and who will come over to visit from time to time.

As I stated previously, ensure your child that you will not love them any less and if their dad is involved in their lives, ensure them that this new person will not take the place of their dad. Have some patience because your child may not be on board right away. If they have any questions, make sure to be honest but ensure that your answers are age appropriate.

Make sure that you and your Boo actually take the time to discuss things like your parenting style, discipline, etc.

He should NOT discipline your child. That is your job.

However, if he notices that your child is doing something wrong, by all means he should tell them so but any disciplining should be left up to you. From Faith to Favor

I noticed this phrase today in church as I was taking notes. I must have written one day as the pastor was speaking. It had no date on the page so I must have been just jotting down things one day. But today for some reason this phrase stood out more than ever. I already had made up my mind that I was going to submit to SISTAH TALK but I didn’t know what I wanted to write about. So this is how God works He put this phrase in my vision and basically told me to work with what He had given me. This was also reassurance that I was moving in the right direction to broaden my horizons and inspire another group of women.

I wanted to start off by giving you the definition of both.

This is going to take some deep thought as to where I am trying to get you to. It says in Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

So to get from Faith to Favor you have to take it step by step.

Faith: A strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.

Favor: favor means to give special regard to; to treat with goodwill; to show exceptional kindness to someone.

Now, that we have gotten that part taken care of. I would like to tell you how you make it from Faith to Favor. Faith is the substance of that which is not seen but the evidence of things hoped for. Now when you start your journey trying to get on the right track, you are constantly making mistakes and that is ok we are all human and we are going to make mistakes. That is the only way we are going to learn.

grow in Christ, and start following the word of God, you will start seeing things in a whole new light. What you use to think was luck; you will find out that it was nothing but GOD! That is Favor. God is showing you goodwill for following His instructions.

I really need to tell you that this is not something that is going to happen overnight. Oh no! You are going to have to work hard at it. When I mean work hard? I mean mentally! You must change your way of thinking. It says in Proverbs 23:7 for as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

So this is a mindset change. Come on now I am about to get deep here. What we think in our minds travel to our hearts. Think about that for a moment. If you say you hate someone, and you continue to say that thing, you will feel that hatred in your heart. So that is what I mean when I say you must change your way of thinking.

Another thing I must say is that what is on the inside will show up on the outside. Do you hear what I am saying?

If you start to change the inner man the outer man will begin to change also. That is a fact! Know that this is only a jumpsuit we are wearing and we can zip it down at anytime and step out of it. God can fix us up as He sees fit as long as He sees we are trying to follow His instructions.

There will be times that you feel that God has left you.

Just know that God was there all the time. You see Faith is a choice. You can believe or not believe that God exist. It is your personal observation in your life if you want to believe in the will of God. You can think that things happen as a coincidence or that God is showing you favor. Uh oh there is that word “Favor.” As you

So going back to from Faith to Favor, putting all the puzzle pieces together, you must trust and believe with your entire mind, body, and soul that God is! You must be willing to take that step without seeing what lies ahead. You must know that you know that God has your back. In the middle of your struggles, your pain, your addictions, your teenage pregnancies, your single motherhood, your singleness, your marriages that are not what you want them to be, in divorces, on your jobs, in your homes with your children Just know that Prayer changes things.

It says in Deuteronomy 31:6 be strong and courageous.

Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” I ask that you just look up to Him and say “Lord I have ALL Faith in you and I give you full control over my life” and watch what will happen. You will start seeing blessing flow all over the place. You will start living in the overflow. You will be smiling and people will not know what is going on with you and when they do decide to ask you go ahead and tell them that God shows me Favors! Come Out of the Ashes

You may have heard the saying, “In every life some rain must fall.” There will be times when your heart will be heavy and you feel as though you have no one to talk to, but don’t worry or fret. Look to me! I am right here beside you! When you feel as if you can’t go on, come to me and I will comfort your weary soul. I will give you the added strength you need to walk this Christian journey.

Allow the oil of my anointing to spill over your tragic moments and allow your tears to become tears of joy. I will erase all the cares of the day and give you moments of gladness. Let your beauty for ashes be swept up into the peaceful bliss of my love. My child, I will give you grace and mercy to carry on and take away the sadness of your heart.

Those times when you feel oppressed and the enemy has come to steal your joy…just look to the Lord and let me hold your hand. I’ll give you the total comfort you

need to walk in victory. Start to praise me for what I have already delivered you from! The more you lift up your voice in praise, the more I will give you the joyful spirit of gladness. I will lift every yoke and burden that has come to defeat your peace.

Stay faithful to your Heavenly Father and allow him to surround you with his sweet presence… that will carry you away into the “Shekinah glory of God.” Never focus on the pain of the past because God has delivered you from those who have oppressed you.

Allow the love of God to keep you safe and from all harm. You will be rescued from all of your distress and God will place your feet on a solid rock to stay. Turn It Around

Almost four months ago, using toothpicks for support, I halfway submerged an avocado seed, into a glass of water. Previously, there were several failed attempts. I have a green thumb with indoor plants, and because I saw no results, I grew impatient, and threw my seeds away.

This time however, I had no time to check, recheck, and grow frustrated. I pretty much forgot about my seed.

While life kept me busy, the seed was doing its own thing. Two weeks ago, I looked online to get help. I came across a great article with pictures on how to grow an avocado tree from a seed. The only right thing that I had done, was to hold the seed with toothpicks. I was tempted to throw the seed away, and start over, but decided to wait it out. I was determined to see this thing through.

A couple of days later, I noticed that the bottom half of the seed had split, and had a root. It took another 3 weeks for the remaining roots to emerge. While staring at it one day, I decided to turn it around. That’s when I received a very pleasant surprise. There was a thin, red stem growing out of the top of the seed. All I had to do to see the change, was look at it from a different angle. I am learning, that I must to be willing to look at things differently.

Something as simple as sitting in a different chair at the dining table, working a different shift, taking a different mode of transportation, taking a class outside of my normal interests, or changing my style of dress; are the makings of small steps, which push past the boundaries that could keep me locked into the same position, year after year. Small, baby steps are what help us to begin walking in newness of life, that expands our horizons and gives us a new outlook on life.

The willingness to change and grow makes us more attractive, approachable and in turn, much more loveable. Life is for the living, and it’s time to live it! It’s time to “Turn it around”. Love is closer than you think.

What seeds have you planted? Are there some things that need to be uprooted? Remember, God does not do things the way we do or think that they should be done.

Be patient, step out into the deep and see change. Give the Lord permission to do His will in your life, and ask Him also to prepare your heart for what He is about to bring forth. He truly loves you and knows what is best for you. Before you know it, you will have a life that has been turned around! week. Then, make the same commitment the next week, and so on. Other positive spending habits can be creating a realistic spending plan for 30 days, deciding to use cash for all purchases, or discontinuing the use of credit cards until you are debt free. That last one is extremely crucial for financial health, and can have positive lasting affects towards achieving financial success.

Notice your patterns

Habits for Financial Success Financial success and failure are both in part due to the habits that we have formed. Those habits may have come from things we learned growing up, from the way we saw our parents or loved ones handle money, and from our personal experiences with money. They say to break a habit you have to do something different in its place for at least 30 days. Wow, if it only takes 30 days to create a new habit, then if we start now next month we’ll begin to gain some traction in our finances!

Replace your old habit To break the habit of overspending, create in its place a new habit. This new habit can be as simple as making a commitment in your mind to not spend all you earn this

Another key thing to controlling your habits is to notice them happening. Take some time to reflect and check your spending motives. After careful observation you may notice a pattern of spending more when your emotions are high. We all have fallen prey to overspending based on our emotions at one time or another. Pay close attention to how and when you spend and if you begin to notice a pattern that puts your finances into a tailspin replace it with something else.

For example, instead of shopping make use that time to think and meditate.

What Time Is It?

By Evangelist Vicky Lynch “I run toward the goal, so that I can win the prize of being called to heaven. This is the prize that God offers because of what Christ Jesus has done” (Philippians 3:14, Contemporary English Version).

It was the start of the day and they both were excited.

My older son, James, and my younger son, Michael, were yelling goodbye to each other. While James was downstairs getting ready to leave for school, he yelled at his brother (who was upstairs), “It’s 7:47, I have to go now. I love you!” My younger son said, “It’s 7:48 up here!” They continued their dialogue while I laid in bed smiling as they were shouting the times out to each other. After a few seconds, my older son asked, “Is it still 7:48 up there?” Then my younger son said, “Yes, it is! I’ll let you know when it’s 7:47 again!” That is when I had to interject and let my son know that the time will not change back; it will only move forward. Within that split second, my three year old son did not realize that he was now in the present, moving towards his future, and no longer in the past.

That is the very message that the Apostle Paul was stressing in his epistle. Despite the many experiences that could result in guilt to how he lived before Christ and anger to how he was persecuted, Paul knew that he had a future goal to live with Christ in eternity. He understood that his present and future transcended his former days, and there was no way that he could change the hour, minute or second hand to revert. In his message, the Apostle Paul was a model citizen to teach us how to not divert and lose our way. His eyes were fixed and our eyes should be also.

Many of us play the role of Marty McFly, the teenager in, Back to the Future, who was accidently sent back in time from 1985 to 1955 in the DeLorean device, which used plutonium to displace its time. He then found himself anxiously trying to return to 1985 again only to discover that he is without the plutonium needed for the return trip. Unfortunately, the only power source that was capable of bringing him back was a bolt of lightning. Can you relate? We sometimes float around in our past trying to live life, but we do not realize that we are traveling on a mental time machine that is creating more distance from reaching our future.

What is your life negatively powered by? Is it still stuck in time from being abused, having a failed relationship, losing all of your material substance, or much more?

Regardless of what is destructively fueling your life, please realize that the very thing holding you back has no capability to move you forward. It will only leave you stranded and wandering aimlessly.

It reminds me of one day when I was driving home from Harrisburg after my church council. On my way I saw a billboard that had an interesting sign. In bold letters, it said, “Your dream home is one exit behind you.” Based on the beauty of the home, it could easily grab your attention and tempt you to think of turning around. But I asked myself, “If it is my dream home, why is it behind me rather than in front of me?”

I easily came to the conclusion that the sign was erroneous and a distraction to my driving. Comparably, our flawed mindsets can take our eyes off of where we are going and cause a major setback emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I could not even measure the mileage that I would have to travel or the time interval that would lapse if I followed that sign. However, here is what I do know. It would take me longer to get home!

If you do not yet know Jesus Christ, please open your heart and receive Him as your personal Lord and Savior.

With childlike faith, confess your sins, and allow Him to reign over your life. When my older son asked if the time was still 7:48, he was a bit deceived because he did not realize that the second hand was ticking. Therefore, the time was advancing although it was visually standing still in his eyes. That is what we must realize. It may seem as though we are just going through the motions of life, but it is important to know that each action is a tick closer to our destiny, if we allow it to be.

As my bishop has strongly stated, “It would be wiser to move to the next level before the crisis pushes you.” We should not live waiting for a lightning bolt to propel us to our future. Our goal is to see Jesus face-to-face and to have the testimony of Paul, “I have fought well. I have finished the race, and I have been faithful” (2 Timothy 4:7, Contemporary English Version).

SISTAH Talk: How can one start to create a Strategic Success Plan?

Dr. Laureen: It starts with determining your true purpose (why) based on your God given talents and gifts. Once you know your purpose (for me it was through prayer), you decide how you want to show-up in life. Then you must determine who you are based on your values, beliefs and habits. Once you know your why (purpose) and your who, you determine where you are now; what you want to be by when (18, 24, or 36) months in the future.

According to Mark Twain: “The two most important days of your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

The key to becoming Fit, Fine & Fabulous is to create your own definition of success and to walk with purpose (your why) in every area of life. When you walk with purpose, you will discover the person you are truly meant to be in your career, your business, and your life.

SISTAH Talk: What advice would you give about selfimprovement?

Dr. Laureen: Always remember that self-growth, selfimprovement and personal development are not things you learn and absorb overnight. My belief is that it is a never-ending process.

We learn, we apply, we grow, we invest, and we absolutely must Re-Invent (the second “R” of the 3R Method). Self-growth, self-improvement, and personal development means we learn to listen to our inner voice.

The messages from your inner voice can only be heard when you are silent (the key word is silent). Your inner inspiration does not come from your ego, it comes from your soul.

To achieve success means doing what you love. It is discovering how to have a better career, a better business, a better life, and how to be a better you.

Philosopher Dan Dennett once said that success is discovering the secret of happiness and then dedicating your life to it.

Living your true purpose is also a state of being where you accept change without resistance and you make better choices over an extended period of time. In essence, it is the purest form of you, where you are living in authenticity and realizing all your dreams.

I have found that when you experience peace in your life, you are healthier, happier, and more creative. When you are spiritually fit, you have freed-up energy. You have more mental energy, you feel lighter, your mood isn’t uneven, and your memory sharpens dramatically.

I have discovered that you will be easier to love, be around, and, in some cases, tolerate. People will actually enjoy being around you, and you will actually feel more like being around others.

Looking for Love … in All the Wrong Places

Many times we are raised in dysfunctional families and we end up looking for love and acceptance all in the wrong places and with this I am going to share my own testimony.

I was adopted at birth and my mother was from Greek decent. They were raised not to be affectionate. My father was of a German, English, and Irish decent. He was very outgoing and affectionate but the two together caused much drama and arguing.

Seven Principles That Will Help You Achieve Weight Loss Success!

Don’t let another week go by and you don’t work on your health, your business or your goals that have been sitting on the shelf of your mind collecting dust because life is happening to you. Excuses are a mindset issue. It comes from a fearful and poverty mindset. Refuse to fear and just make it happen, like I know you can.

1. Drop the excuses! “Excuses will hold you hostage and keep you from the next level.” ~Dr. Stacia Pierce.

Last week I talked about taking a “no excuse” approach to weight loss and as soon as the conference started it was the very first thing that Dr. Stacia spoke about. In order to achieve our goals we need to understand that life happens to us all and that circumstances arise to keep you average. If you keep putting off your health and fitness goals every time something happens to you, you will NEVER reach them. There were people who came to the conference, who had lost loved ones, spent their last money to get there, not 100% in their health and so on. They didn’t make an excuse and let the circumstances of life prevent them from taking their lives to the next level of Reign.

2. Release to Reign! Before you can go to the next level you have to release something, let something or someone go. You may have to release some money to actually invest in a coach or trainer or release some time to actually cook your own food. You may have to release that mindset that’s telling you that you can’t do it, that it’s too hard, that you should just wait until you can afford it.

You may have to release some “so called” friends who are not on the same page as you, they don’t care about their health or business. They don’t want to make millions or they are satisfied with being a size 14. You know what and/or who it is and if you are ready to go to the next level, then go ahead honey and Release to Reign!

3. Upgrade your associations! Get around get it people. Get around people who actually want to see you succeed. Even though they may never say it, there are some people who are only comfortable when you are struggling, when your are overweight, when you are broke. Dr. Stacia said, “when you don’t have community, non-supportive people get in the way of your dreams.” If you truly want to have success with your weight loss you must surround yourself with a community of like minded people.

instructors, they had had to push us because as nurses we have people’s lives in our hands and we have to be able to work under extreme pressure in extreme circumstances so if you can’t handle nursing school you are not fit to deal with peoples lives!

You must be challenged in order to be changed and yes this is uncomfortable but it’s what’s gonna bring you the results you’ve been looking for.

4. Consistency brings the Reign! Dr. Stacia stated on several occasions that “it’s not always that people don’t know what to do, it’s that they give up too soon!” In order to achieve your weight loss goals you have to stay consistent. Even when it gets hard and it will, even when you don’t have the money to buy the right foods. Even when you are tired of eating healthy, even when you don’t see results, you must stay consistent. I would go from diet plan to diet plan after only a couple of weeks because I didn’t see results fast enough. It wasn’t until I developed realistic expectations and became consistent did I start to seeing results this took several months not days, not weeks but months, so don’t give up!

5. Become comfortable with being uncomfortable! In order for us to have something we’ve never had we must do something we’ve never done. We’ve heard that a million times but to actually put it to practice on a daily basis is another story. I remember when I got to my last 30 pounds that I needed to lose. I was trying everything to lose the weight and it just wouldn’t budge.

I hired a trainer and I have to say that I hated her for about the first few weeks she trained me. I felt like I was in nursing school again. The teachers in nursing school seemed like they wanted us to fail, they acted like they hated us. That was the way I was feeling about her, I thought she was trying to kill me, why? Because she, just like my nursing school instructors were constantly pushing me out of my comfort zone! I mean she had me moving my body in ways I didn’t know was possible I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I thought I was going to die but you know what, I lost weight.

She has become one of my most favorite people in the world because she pushed out of my comfort zone and into the weight loss Reign! Now I make sure every workout I make myself uncomfortable! As for the nursing

6. Find a new best! “If you are doing your best and it sucks, find a new best!” ~ Dr. Stacia Pierce Stop thinking you’ve tried it all, that you know it all. If you did you would be at the weight you wanted to be or actually the body fat% that you wanted to be at. You may be a “know it all” like I am and it may be difficult to take advice from others. One thing I’ve learned is that the picture can’t see the frame. You are the picture and you are inside of the frame so your view is limited. A coach knows what you need to do and can show you a new best for you, even if you think you’ve tried it all, take a deep breathe swallow your pride and listen.

7. Plan the Reign!

“Plans make dreams come true!” ~Dr. Stacia Pierce If you’ve been following me for any length of time you’ve heard me say this 100′s of times. If you want to actually start living your dreams instead of dreaming them you have to plan for success in advance. Plan your meals, plan your meal times. Plan how many calories you need, plan your workout. You don’t stumble your way into success, it’s planned, it’s on purpose.

Without a doubt, this young artist has captivated audiences near and abroad. Her vocal techniques are superb with an anointing for this generation. Her name is NATASHA PAGE LOCKHART.
