Letter From the Editor Running the Race with Faith…

Walking in the the Promise of Another Level One of the most frustrating and confusing things we encounter in our earthly journey is those times when we seem to be moving…without making progress. You understand, those times in your life when you have motion but no momentum to propel you forward, to cause you to advance and move to the next level of the abundant life that God has for you.

The Bible although not directly but certainly indirectly indicates that God’s desire for His Kingdom People is for us to be growing, advancing, moving from one level of grace to the next level of grace; from one level of victory to the next level of victory and from one level of abundant living to the next level of abundant living. There is nothing static, stale or stationary about our God and thus there should be nothing static, stale or stationary about your Christian journey. We are to grow from glory to glory and from faith to faith.

Let’s be real – this can be frustrating and this can tempt us and try us and influence us to give up, to walk away from our loved ones, our friends, our relationships, our jobs, our church and our futures. Many unfortunate men and women – unfortunate because they made themselves losers – have given up and quit because they did not understand what it takes to get to the next level. Listen, it takes more than time on the job to get the promotion to the next level. It takes more than being married to make a happy home and take your relationship to the next level. It takes more than showing up at church every now and then…showing up at Bible Study periodically…when things are not going right for you – to advance in the Kingdom of God and grow from glory to glory and move to the next spiritual level of faith and abundance.

So what does it take to get to the next level? How do you advance, go forward, improve, grow, and experience an entirely new level of miracles, signs, and wonders. How can we march toward our ultimate goal and achieve victory over nagging sins and see our families and loved ones win in life – over the challenges, trials and tribulations of this old world? What is it that you need to know, do or be – in order to get to the next level on your job; at school; in the church or in your relationships with others?

Staying Connected

Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

Genesis 3:8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

God’s design was for people to be connected to Him and to others. God saw that Adam did not have a helpmate comparable to him, so He created Eve. Adam and Eve walked and talked with God in the garden. Life was good and fellowship was sweet. Satan did not like that and wanted to put a stop to it. He tempted Adam and Eve. They were deceived, disobeyed God’s command, and fellowship was broken. Today, sin is still the reason for broken relationships. The great news is that Satan did NOT win. God provided a way for fellowship with Him and others to be restored. Jesus’ shed blood on the cross provides restoration in all relationships. Christ can give us new beginnings.

God’s design to connect people together is truly amazing. The Bible is not kidding when it tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. The brain actually produces a bonding hormone called oxytocin. Oxytocin is released whenever you hold hands, hug, cuddle, kiss, do kind deeds, or have intimate talks. It is released in higher amounts during childbirth (parent/child bonding), and during orgasm (husband/wife bonding). This explains why people bond to others at different levels.

The more loving the relationship, the stronger the bond will be. It is God’s desire for us to have lifelong connections so we can be there for each other.

Satan knows the power of loving, healthy relationships and that God uses family and friends as an avenue to pour His love on others. Knowing this, Satan tries to use the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life to demolish relationships. Pride, power, money, greed, and selfishness are all used to destroy. Think about it. Every time someone has an attitude, yells, degrades you, or harms you in any way, you begin to disconnect. For some reason, people think that these behaviors are OK behind closed doors. That is farthest from the truth. Our homes should be our safe haven, a

place of refuge. It is never OK to yell, degrade, or harm someone emotionally or physically. As Christians, we should be able to work out our disagreements in a Christ honoring way.

We live in a culture where our families are falling apart.

Divorce is ramped and parents are disconnecting from their children. It is time that we, Christians, no longer fall prey to Satan’s deception! It is time that we allow God to use us as a vessel to pour His love unto others, especially our families. Today is the day to be intentional!! What one thing can you do today to begin to be a vessel of love to everyone you come in contact with? To help you see where to get started, ask yourself: 







Am I there for others: sharing the gospel, visiting the sick and those in prison, helping a single mother or the widow, feeding the poor, sending that card of encouragement, or just smiling at someone and telling them to have a nice day? Or, am I too busy with the things of this world that I have no time for others?

Am I a true friend who when I see my friend getting involved in something that can harm her, I will do and say something to stop her or do I sit back and not say a word?

When my children come to me for help, do I say in a tone, “What do you want?” or am I glad I am the one who they come to for help?

When my children disobey, do I raise my voice and yell or with controlled emotions, follow through with consequences?

What kind of attitude do I have with my spouse? Is it one of selfishness or sacrifice?

Do I gossip or do I only share with others what can be used for edification?

When people are mean to me, do I respond back with the same behavior, or do I pray for them and show them the love of Christ.

Allow God’s love to flow through you to those to your family, your neighbors, your co-workers, and your church family. As you reach out to others, you will build new and wonderful relationships. Teen Alternative Sex Teen alternative sex is teen involvement in sexual activities other than vaginal intercourse. It can include:     

Oral sex Anal sex Petting, hand jobs, dry humping or any other stimulation of the partner's genitals Mutual masturbation Necking or making out

Some teens choose alternative sex as a means of expressing sexuality while remaining a virgin. Also, many teens think alternative sex is safe sex, but this is a misunderstanding.

None of these activities will cause pregnancy, as long as no seminal fluid gets into the female's vagina, but these methods of teen alternative sexcan spread some or all of the 25 or more known sexually transmitted diseases, and thousands of teens are infected with STDs every day.

Teen anal sex is a high-risk sexually activity for the spread of teen sexually transmitted diseases, including fatal STDs such as Hepatitis B and HIV. Many teens think that oral sex is safe, but it is a leading cause of teen STD infections. Even if contact with semen is avoided, many teens have undetected bleeding gums, which can spread HIV, and any contact with the genital area can spread STDs such as herpes and genital warts. Mutual masturbation is safer sex only if there is no close contact with the other teen's body or bodily fluids. Necking can also spread some STDs such as syphilis.

Abstinence, which means refraining from all sexual relations, is the only way to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

Any teen having sexual contact with another person, including oral sex, anal sex, or hand jobs, should use a condom. Condoms reduce, but do not stop, the spread of STDs. A sexually active teen, especially one who has had any form of unprotected sex, should be examined by a doctor for sexually transmitted diseases. Not all STDs have symptoms, but some signs of a teen STD can include:   

  

Burning during urination Pain during sex Blisters, rashes, swelling or redness around or in the genitals, anus, mouth, or throat, especially after anal or oral sex Strong genital odors Discharge from the penis or vagina Flu-like symptoms such as fever, head or body aches, or fatigue

No teen should ever be forced to perform any sexual act.

Teens who are engaged in alternative sex must be very clear with their partners about their limits, and respect their partners' limits. A teen should never do anything that the other person is uncomfortable with, or try to pressure the other person into trying other forms of alternative sex. If someone tries to pressure a teen into doing something he or she is not comfortable with, the teen should tell them no, get away from the person, and consider reporting the incident to parents, law enforcement officers, or other trusted adults. No one who cares about someone will try to force him or her into a sexual activity he or she doesn't want. Any sexual contact that is not welcome is considered sexual battery or sexual assault, and can lead to criminal charges. The victim is never at fault in cases of sexual battery or sexual assault, and should seek counseling and medical care, if necessary.

Parents should talk to their teens about sexual activities and values, and encourage teens to make healthy and responsible choices about sex and sexuality.

What Are Men Really After…?

What are men really after? Just one thing, you say?

Well, fMRI studies of men’s brains show that 98% of the male cerebral cortex is preoccupied with vivid sexual fantasies. Not really!

Seriously, what do we know about men’s priorities and what are men really after? In Part I of this two-part series on what are men really after we looked at men’s attitudes towards sex and quality of life. We shared some very surprising data that came out of an eight country random survey of 27,839 men ages 20-75.

Using a questionnaire called the Men’s Attitudes to Life Events and Sexuality (MALES), the authors from the Kinsey Institute found that men’s attitudes towards two key areas, masculinity and quality of life, differed markedly from the cultural stereotypes of guys as shallow creatures who are driven primarily by lust.

In the masculinity section of the study and across all countries, being seen as a “man of honor” was the single highest ideal for men, far more important than “being physically attractive,” “having success with women,” or “having an active sex life.” Together with “being in control of your own life” these two attributes accounted for about 60% of the responses. These findings held across all nationalities and across all age groups.

Now back to the study. In the MALES section called Quality of Life, men were asked to rate the following seven goals in order of importance: • Being in good health.

• Satisfying sex life.

• Harmonious family life.

• Good relationship with partner/wife.

• Enjoying life to the fullest.

• Satisfying career or work life.

• Having a nice home.

Again, the findings were quite surprising. The top three answers were: “being in good health”; “a harmonious family life”; and “good relationship with partner/wife.” “A satisfying sex life” was last, tied with “a nice home.”

While there was definitely variability in the top answers depending on country, “a satisfying sex life” always came last. Even more astonishing were the findings in

regard to age and marital status. Younger men, age 2039 still rated the same three goals as most important.

When comparing single vs. married men, the only difference was that singles rated “enjoying live to the fullest” in second place along with “a harmonious family life.” Again “a satisfying sex life” was rated last.

Amazingly enough men who had erectile dysfunction (ED) as well as those who did not suffer from ED, still rated “a satisfying sex life” the same way. Dead last.

Understandably of course, men with ED reported having a less satisfying sexual life than those without ED.

The MALES findings are in agreement with what I have found in over 25 years of clinical practice and in Love Mentoring. Despite fears of being vulnerable, of being loved and loving, most men want to be honorable and have a good relationship with their partners. So what are men really after? LIVING THE VICTORIOUS & BLESSED LIFE

Where Bondage Ends

Do you ever find yourself in a position where you’re doing something that – at face value – really sounds like the Christian thing to do, a wonderful thing to do, but it just doesn’t feel right in your spirit, has you feeling very awkward? very unsettled? with unrest? Could it be that you are submitting to people-pleasing righteousness or self-righteousness instead of submitting to the righteousness of God? In the event that you’re doing something “for peace sake” that God has not directed you to do, you must understand that without God’s righteousness, there can be no real peace. So, we must all understand that if we are to be empowered and available for the assignment that God has preordained for our lives, our position must be in the will of God, aligned with the Word of God and led by the Spirit of God. One subtle bondage that positions us out of the will of God is our inability to, resistance to, or fear of saying no.

But often it’s necessary to say “no” to people in order to say “yes” to God. Often the reason that it is so difficult for us, after our born-again experience, after truly committing our lives to God, “no” is something that many of us find tedious, unrighteous and uncomfortable. We can be so sensitive to the needs of others that we allow our sensitivity to overpower the will of God. Does your desire to please others lead you into grudgingly bypassing your agenda for the things that others want to do? Do you base your response to situations on what others expect of you instead of what the Holy Spirit is leading you to do? Do you bypass who you are, your values, desires and boundaries to gain acceptance from others, to be in harmony with everyone, make sure everyone knows that you love them and that you’re a good Christian?

As Christians, it’s often easier to please people because people-pleasing gives us immediate, temporary gratification. We love the reward of their compliment, smile and pat on the back. Things appear to look more peaceful than if we told them how we really feel, what we really want to do and what we really do not want to do.

But is passiveness, silence or false communication really peace? Is it really the righteousness of God? Real peace lies in following the principles of Gods Word and the direction of the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:15-16 “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head – Christ – from whom the whole body joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”

The enemy is on assignment to get us out of God’s will, to position us for serious enemy attack. When one area of our lives is out of God’s will, it throws other areas out of his will because we’re not positioned at the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing. Sometime we struggle in determining whether we are hearing the voice of God. Here are some key factors that will bring clarity to this dilemma: 

Is the direction in harmony with the Word of God?



Will the results of your decision cultivate your relationship with the Father?



Will it lead to more crucifying of the flesh and radiate more of Christ in you?



Is God being put first in this situation?

If you lose the love of the people whom you please by standing for what you believe is God’s will, did you really have their love? Putting others before Him will cause the covering of God’s will to be violated, causing God’s plan and purpose for you to be restrained. Seek God’s face, His plan, His purpose by His Spirit. Don’t allow your desire to please people position you outside of the will of God. He is a jealous God and He wants to be first in your life.

Living Through the Transformation

By Regina Stone Living in a fast paced culture, where everything is "Right now" or "High speed" we forget about life.

I recall my days as a young SISTAH, coming up through high school, re-adjusting after my dad's untimely death, and the effects his passing had on the family. I was feeling lost, as though my entire future was a toss-up, and I had no specific direction.

I also felt like I had a giant empty void, where my soul was.

A deep, dark hole in my spirit cold, and empty. I would never see my dad again. What's worse, his murder was a direct and quite powerful example of how I felt about my family. How there was so much effort in creating this unrealistic image of the "average black television family", while in reality, we were in essence "trashy." What kind of family gets stirred up in a tawdry daytime like drama? A mother/mistress/wife who not only cheats on her abusive husband but whose secret affair ends in his untimely and unexpected murder?

Scandalous! Not to mention three children raised in an abusive household, while trying to assure the White privileged neighborhood that "we deserve to be here as much as you do." In reality, we were the exact ignorance my parents worked so hard not to be seen as. In essence, shattering the very "Happy family image" we had attempted to and worked so hard to establish. Brings a whole new meaning to the saying, "Well, there goes the neighborhood." Thus, there was me, the last child placed in the role of upholding what we had left. I was angry, and I was isolated and alone.

On the other hand, this force within me began to awaken, it was part of me, so not foreign, but real, authentic, and starved.

I began to try new things, and to find things that made me happy. I reveled in the freedoms my mom gave to me.

No curfew, learning the joys of life, and trusting me to be responsible. I realized, I had no controlling overbearing parent. I had freedom to find my voice.

The void of desolate isolation began to warm into another part of myself (it didn't go away just yet, but it wasn't as intense).

I spent time with friends, and discovered I liked shopping.

I danced and sang, learning what enjoyment felt like.

I connected to God, feeling what goodness is. I was made renewed and able to embrace everything. Throughout the last 13 years, I have traveled, learned and practiced some languages, fell in love, found myself, and most importantly, walked with and embraced God. I am now in the final stages of my masters degree, working with youth and children as I had envisioned myself so many years ago. I write and perform Spoken Word, I'm an activist and an artist.

I have recorded three songs and had my own hip hop based event.

Blessed to know God and this life He has given me, I live authentically with peace and growth in my heart as I embrace the lessons of life.

I reflect on this to say, I have this constant reminder of how important it is to appreciate time, and enjoy the moments when I can. Its easy to get lost in slow internet, or become restless about a 30 minute pizza delivery. I try to remember, the feeling of waking up, when the void and hurt becomes warmth and love. The hope that fed that transformation. Lupita Nyong’o: A Star is Born Lupita Nyong'o triumphed on her Oscars debut but, says Tim Robey, the star of 2014 is poised for even greater things If you were asked to choose the most jubilant, invigorating, and universally popular few minutes of the 2014 Oscars ceremony, you couldn’t do much better than the moment after Christoph Waltz announced the winner of Best Supporting Actress. Its recipient, the 31-year-old Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o, is familiar by now for two reasons, and two alone: for her unforgettable, scalding performance in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, and her presence on the red carpet circuit all season, justifiably winning a clutch of awards for it.

The performance is her debut, following an apprenticeship on the drama stages of both Nairobi and Yale. One of the most remarkable things about Nyong’o’s portrayal of Patsey is how she comes to us whole, as a fully formed, self-exposing and fearless actress, not a tentative ingenue or putty in her director’s hands.

The awards clip used time and again to promote Nyong’o in 12 Years a Slave is the one with Patsey clutching a bar of soap, a symbol of defiant dignity, as she browbeats her own master for allowing her to be so misused. It precedes the film’s most brutal sequence, in which her body becomes a symbolic site in itself, and the fury and injustice of her suffering are every bit as agonising as McQueen, in trying to summon the darkest excesses of the era, needs them to be. She’s incredibly vivid at communicating both inner power, a tumultuous life force, and complete powerlessness at the same time.

Extraordinary words from the 12 Years a Slave actress: "It doesn’t escape me for one Moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s."

On February 27, 2014, at the Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon in Beverly Hills, Lupita gave a speech on black beauty. Lupita talked about a letter she received from a young fan who stated she was unhappy with herself until she saw the actress on the cover of a magazine. In her speech Lupita talked about the insecurities she had about herself as a teenager; growing up as a dark skinned black girl, women that looked like her were barely portrayed in the media and when they were, they were not deemed as being beautiful. She said her views about herself changed when she saw South Sudanese supermodel Alek Wek become successful.

Lupita further stated, "When I saw Alek I inadvertently saw a reflection of myself that I could not deny.

Now, I had a spring in my step because I felt more seen, more appreciated by the far away gatekeepers of beauty."

She continues, "And my one prayer to God, the miracle worker, was that I would wake up lighter-skinned. The morning would come and I would be so excited about seeing my new skin that I would refuse to look down at myself until I was in front of a mirror because I wanted to see my fair face first. And every day I experienced the same disappointment of being just as dark as I had been the day before."

Lupita's decision to speak out was spurred by a letter she received from a fan. It read: "Dear Lupita. I think you’re really lucky to be this black but yet this successful in Hollywood overnight. I was just about to buy Dencia’s Whitenicious cream to lighten my skin when you appeared on the world map and saved me."

She reveals that her own light bulb moment came when seeing supermodel Alek Wek. “Even Oprah called her beautiful and that made it a fact,” she said.

She hopes that her presence in Hollywood will inspire young girls to value their own beauty especially that on the inside.

"I hope that my presence on your screens and in the magazines may lead you, young girl, on a similar journey," she said.

Lupita further encourages, "That you will feel the validation of your external beauty but also get to the deeper business of being beautiful inside. There is no shade to that beauty."

Lady Leah Hill McNair is a native of Greensboro, NC. The evangelistic call on her life has afforded her opportunities to minister nationally and internationally.

Lady McNair has utilized her ministry gifts in West Africa to provide leadership training, facilitate workshops, organize & lead missions groups and preach revivals that led to the saving of many souls. In 2004, Lady McNair’s strength became greater as she joined forces with her husband, Pastor P. Michael McNair. LADY LEAH: Well, I started preaching at a young age, 16 to be exact. And as I continued to preach, the Lord began to show me that He had given me a ministry of empowerment. In other words, He’s given me a ministry assignment to empower the Body of Christ with deliverance, healing, and wholeness through His Holy Spirit. So my mission is to get people to realize who they are in God, to teach them how to walk in their God given authority and power. My goal is to shift God’s people away from focusing on their past, by reminding them, through the Word of the unlimited potential that lies in their future. When we do that, we are then enabled to live an empowered life in Christ Jesus!

SISTER TALK: Please share your inspiration to start MAC Publishing, and what it’s about.

SISTER TALK: Please share your journey in writing “21 Days of Powerful Prayers for Women”.

LADY LEAH: The inspiration to start MAC Publishing came 2 years ago when I completed the manuscript of my first book, The Guide to Greatness for women in ministry. After sharing my manuscript with 3 different publishing companies and being in astonishment after view the astronomical publishing costs, my husband and I sat down with a plan. After much prayer, we decided to self-publish my first book. The Lord blessed and 3 months later, I self published my second book! Other pastors and preachers in the kingdom began to inquire as to how we did it in such a short time and for so little money. Once we shared our testimony, several people began to bring us their manuscripts to help them self publish, and that is how Mac Publishing was birthed!

Kind of, by “accident” (if you will). Our company specializes in helping first time authors self publish their books in a spirit of excellence. We have over 20 authors that are apart of our publishing family in just 12 months.

LADY LEAH: In 2011, God impressed upon my heart to establish an environment where women from everywhere can come together and be encouraged through prayer and the Word of God. I call it the “Women on Wednesday” (W.O.W.) Prayer Call. For 15 short minutes I shared a word of encouragement and prayed a covering of blessings over every caller.

Through the prayer call, many women have testified that they have been blessed, encouraged, strengthened, and challenged to make substantial life improvements.

After hearing what God has done in their life, I was impressed by the Holy Spirit to take each call and share it with you in the form of a 21-day prayer journal. There are endless books and articles that say “It takes 21 days to make a habit.” One can apply this idea to prayer as well. I wrote the book with the intention that in less than a month, women will create a habit of prayer that will not only bring discipline to their Christian walk, but it will change their lives!

SISTER TALK: Please share your inspiration to begin Girls Night Out, and what is the mission of Girls Night Out. LADY LEAH: Girls Night Out is a program I do twice a year with the teens and pre-teens of my congregation. I allow them to bring 1 friend that is not a part of our church and we take 2 days to impart into every young lady on their level. Most of these girls are dealing with serious issues of suicidal thoughts, mental health issues, peer pressure, sexual promiscuity, self-esteem and self-image issues and the list goes on. Many of them have no goals for their future and no drive to dream big. I use Girls Night Out to combat those ideals and remind each girl that they are extraordinary. The mission is to help pre-teen and teenage girls view themselves as valuable and to help them to accept themselves just the way they are. Over the 6 years of my tenure at Emmanuel Baptist Church we have taken the girls to five star hotels, local resorts, beaches, and given them high class treatment in every way possible.

SISTER TALK: Please share some motivation for women and teenage girls who are working to accomplish their dreams. Please share some characteristics women and teens should have to be successful as they endeavor to pursue their dreams and goals.

LADY LEAH: Any woman that desires to not only dream big but walk in the manifestation of those dreams must first HAVE A PLAN. Create action steps to follow.

Identify the path you must take. Celebrate your key accomplishments along the way. Refuse to let anyone or anything drain your passion to see your vision come to pass! Even before the dream comes to pass, you must SEE YOURSELF WALKING IN THAT LEVEL OF SUCCESS. View yourself through the eyes of faith!

There is a quote that says "human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind." (Lee Iacocca) If you can’t picture yourself achieving the goal, chances are – you won’t.

31 Days of Prayers for Your Husband

"She does him good . . .” (Proverbs 31:12a) Bless your husband by praying for him! The Apostle Paul instructed all Christians to pray for one another (Ephesians 6:18). This includes wives’ responsibility and privilege to pray for their husbands. Earnest prayer for your husband is good for him, for you and the spiritual health of your home (Proverbs 31:11-12).

Satan desires to destroy your husband, especially his character and his leadership in your relationship. Trust God through prayer as you daily surrender your husband and marriage to the Lord’s wise, loving care.

Day 1 Pray that your husband will grow spiritually and consider his accountability before the Lord. Pray that he will guard his heart by developing spiritual disciplines—Bible reading and study, prayer, meditation, scripture memorization, etc. (2 Peter 3:18; Prov. 4:23) Day 2 Pray that your husband’s relationship with God and His Word will bear fruit in his life. Pray that he will be a man of wisdom and understanding, fearing the Lord. (Prov.

3:7, 9:10; Ps. 112:1)

Day 3 Pray that your husband will be humble and quick to agree with God about his sin. Pray that his heart will be tender toward the voice of the Lord. (Ps. 51:2-4; Micah 6:8) Day 4 Pray that your husband will grow in leadership skills in your relationship—protecting and providing for you. Pray that he will lead you wisely and love you sacrificially, so that God will be glorified in your marriage. (Eph. 5:25-29; Col. 3:19) Day 5 Pray that your husband will be faithful to his wedding vows. Pray that he will have a desire to cultivate your relationship as a sign of his loyalty and commitment to you, and as a picture of Christ’s love for the Church.

Day 7 Pray that your husband will safeguard his heart against inappropriate relationships with the opposite sex. Pray that his heart will be pure and undivided in his commitment to you. (Prov. 6:23-24, 26; Rom. 13:14)

Day 16 Pray that your husband will choose healthy, Godhonoring activities. Pray that he will not live in bondage to any questionable habits or hobbies, but that he will experience freedom in holiness as he yields to the Spirit’s control. (1 Cor. 6:12, 10:31; 2 Tim. 2:4)

Day 8 Pray that your husband will work hard to provide for your family, to the best of his ability. Pray that the character qualities necessary for a successful career and ministry will be a growing part of his character—persistence, decisiveness, strength, an analytical mind, organizational skills, positive relationships with people, determination, etc. (Rom. 12:11; 1 Cor. 15:58) Day 9 Pray that your husband handle finances wisely, will have discernment concerning budgeting and investments, and will be a good steward of his money in regard to giving to the Lord’s work. Pray that money will not become a source of discord in your family. (Prov. 23:4-5; Rom. 12:13; Heb. 13:5) Day 10 Pray that your husband will cultivate strong integrity, and not compromise his convictions. Pray that his testimony will be genuine, that he will be honest in his business dealings, and will never do anything that he needs to hide from others. (Prov. 20:7; 1 Tim. 1:5, 3:7; Eph. 6:1012)

Day 17 Pray that your husband will enjoy his manliness as he patterns his life after Christ and strong men in the faith.

Pray for his physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual strength. (Eph. 3:16; 1 Peter 2:21; 1 Cor. 10:11) Day 18 Pray that your husband will have an eternal perspective—living in light of eternity. Pray that he will reject materialism and temporal values and put God first in his life. (Matt. 6:33; Deut. 6:5; Eph. 5:16; Ps. 90:12) Day 19 Pray that your husband will be patient and a man of peace. Pray that he will not give in to anger, but will allow the Holy Spirit to control his responses. (Rom. 14:19; Ps. 34:14) Day 20 Pray that your husband will yield his mind and thoughts to the Lord. Pray that he will not entertain immoral or impure thoughts, and that he will resist the temptation to indulge in pornography. (Prov. 27:12; 2 Cor. 10:5)

Day 11 Pray that your husband will have a humble, teachable spirit and a servant’s heart before the Lord. Pray that he will listen to God and desire to do His will. (Prov. 15:33; Eph. 6:6)

Day 21 Pray that your husband will learn how to relax in the Lord and, in his greatest times of stress, find joy and peace in his relationship with God. Pray that he will submit his schedule to the Lord. (Neh. 8:10; Prov. 17:22; Ps. 16:11)

Day 12 Pray that your husband will yield his sexual drive to the Lord and practice self control. Pray that your sexual intimacy together will be fresh, positive, and a reflection of selfless love. (Prov. 5:15, 18; 1 Cor. 7:3; Song of Solomon 7:10)

Day 22 Pray that your husband will practice forgiveness in your relationship and with others. Pray that he will recognize any roots of bitterness, and yield any resentment and unforgiving attitudes to the Lord. (Eph. 4:32; Heb. 12:15)

Day 13 Pray that your husband use practical skills to build your family and make wise decisions for your welfare. Pray that he will serve unselfishly. (Gal. 5:13; Phil. 2:3-4) Day 14 Pray that your husband will speak words that build you and your family, and reflect a heart of love. Pray that he will not use filthy language. (Prov. 18:21; Eph. 4:29) Day 15 Pray that your husband will choose his friends wisely.

Pray that God will bring him men who will encourage his

Day 23 Pray that your husband will be a good father— disciplining his children wisely and loving them unconditionally. If he is not a father, pray that he will find a young man to mentor in the things of the Lord. (Eph. 6:4; Col. 3:21; 2 Tim. 2:1-2) Day 24 Pray that your husband will have a balanced life—that he will balance work and play. Pray that he will fear God, but also gain favor with people he knows at work and church. (Luke 2:52; Prov. 13:15)

Day 25 Pray that your husband will be courageous in his stand against evil and injustice, and that he will stand for the truth. Pray that he will protect you and your family from Satan’s attacks. (Ps. 31:24; Eph. 6:13; Ps. 27:14) Day 26 Pray that your husband will discover and live his Godgiven purpose. Pray that he will offer all his dreams to the Lord, and pursue only those goals that will bring God glory and count for eternity. (Jer. 29:11; 1 Cor. 10:31) Day 27 Pray that your husband will understand the importance of taking care of his body—the temple of the Holy Spirit—for the glory of God. Pray that he will practice self-control by making wise food choices, and get sufficient exercise to stay healthy. (Rom. 12:1-2; 1 Cor. 6:19-20, 9:27)

Day 28 Pray that your husband will be a man of prayer. Pray that he will seek and pursue God in purposeful quiet times. (1 Thess. 5:17; Luke 22:46; James 5:16) Day 29 Pray that your husband will surrender his time and talents to the Lord. Pray that his spiritual gifts will be manifest in his career, at church, and in your home.

(Eph. 5:15-16; 1 Cor. 12:4, 7) Day 30 Pray that your husband will serve God and others with pure motives. Pray that he will obey the Lord from his heart, and glorify Him in everything. (1 Cor. 10:13; John 7:17-18; Col. 3:23-24) Day 31 Pray that your husband will recognize the lies of the Enemy in his life. Pray that his attitudes and actions will be guided by the truth as he brings his thoughts into captivity to the Word of God. (John 8:44; 2 Cor. 10:4-5)

3 Tips to Eating Healthier that will Change Your Life favorite. Remember if you are eating a salad to get a lower calorie vinaigrette and measure out your serving which is usually 2 tablespoons.

Tip 1: Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water daily.

If you drink caffeinated beverages you need to replace the amount of the beverage with the same amount of water. Even if it’s tea, if’s if caffeinated tea it’s also going to cause dehydration because it’s a diuretic.

Tip: 2 Eat your greens.

Tip: 3 Limit your intake of prepackaged foods.

What do I mean by this? You already know that cookies, cakes, pies, potato chips and the like are not good for you. But I’m also talking about crackers and health food bars (may have lots of hidden sugars) that are pre-packaged. Most of the pre packaged foods are in the center isles. That’s why it’s important to shop the perimeter where the fruits and veggies are for about 80-90% of your food!

Eat at least 2 cups of greens a day. Some great ones are kale, spinach, broccoli, swiss chard, or what whatever kind of dark green that might be your

How to Create a Hot Wardrobe for This Cold Winter

This winter, the discovery of deep burgundy colors, plaid prints, leather, skater skirts, furs and printed flat shoes could cause you to look back into your winter wardrobe and sigh. However, there is no need to fear spending hundreds of dollars for wardrobe revitalization. Use these tips to find a few trendy items to add to your closet for less!

Thrifting. Shopping at thrift stores is more popular (and money saving) than you think. Some give thrift stores the side eye because the clothing is seen as "hand-me downs". Once you find a great item for less than $10 it changes your entire perspective on how to shop. Plaid can be very easy to find at a local thrift store along with other vintage items. Finding 2 or 3 items to add to your wardrobe from a thrift store is bargain shopping at its best!

Support A Boutique. Support an independent boutique by choosing a few trendy items. Not only will the items be brand new, but they may be unique depending on where you shop. One of my favorites is Primrose Boutique in Bowie, Maryland because the clothing is sure to be different, on trend and affordable. Often times, boutique owners have specials or offer discounts depending on the amount you spend.

Accessorizing. It is not always necessary to purchase entire new "outfits". Staying on trend can also mean

adding small trendy items or accessories to your ensemble. For example, you can paint your nails in the trendy colors for less than $5 for a bottle of polish or purchase an infiniti scarf with a plaid or aztec print for less than $15. Maybe you don't have the leather jogger pants, but a nice pair of leather boots will carry you further and can be worn more frequently. A cute pair of flat printed shoes can accompany multiple ensembles as well.

Shop Sales. I always check out the sales racks before even glancing at the regularly priced clothing. More often than not, I leave the sales section with a variety of items that ultimately keep me from looking at the regular clothing at all. Check out those sales racks for some trendy items before paying full price.

FInd Coupons. This is an age old habit for some that really adds up! You may find a bargain at your local JCPenney's but when you add that 25% off coupon, it really helps. Search online or in newspaper circulars for coupons that will make the difference.

Don't Shop to Buy. How many times have you gone out to window shop, found items you liked and made a purchase only to return home and realize you already had the same or similar items? Window shopping can also just give you ideas for items you already own.

week. Then, make the same commitment the next week, and so on. Other positive spending habits can be creating a realistic spending plan for 30 days, deciding to use cash for all purchases, or discontinuing the use of credit cards until you are debt free. That last one is extremely crucial for financial health, and can have positive lasting affects towards achieving financial success.

Notice your patterns

Habits for Financial Success Financial success and failure are both in part due to the habits that we have formed. Those habits may have come from things we learned growing up, from the way we saw our parents or loved ones handle money, and from our personal experiences with money. They say to break a habit you have to do something different in its place for at least 30 days. Wow, if it only takes 30 days to create a new habit, then if we start now next month we’ll begin to gain some traction in our finances!

Replace your old habit To break the habit of overspending, create in its place a new habit. This new habit can be as simple as making a commitment in your mind to not spend all you earn this

Another key thing to controlling your habits is to notice them happening. Take some time to reflect and check your spending motives. After careful observation you may notice a pattern of spending more when your emotions are high. We all have fallen prey to overspending based on our emotions at one time or another. Pay close attention to how and when you spend and if you begin to notice a pattern that puts your finances into a tailspin replace it with something else.

For example, instead of shopping make use that time to think and meditate.

I’m Coming Back

I recall on several occasions and in different circumstances in which I would have to report to family, friends, or a coworker a term we often hear, “I’m coming back.” Some of you may be more use to the term, “I’ll be back.” Whichever best describes you, the statement shares the same connotation. It means that we are leaving temporarily in order to accomplish a necessary task whether it is a break, shopping, paying bills, or visiting other family or friends. These statements are a reflection of the need to get away for a short period of time. Whomever we relay this statement to is oftentimes anticipating our return.

Many times, we disconnect from God. The difference is that we don’t disconnect from God and tell Him that we’ll be back. We just disconnect without any sort of explanation most of the time. On other occasions, we disconnect from God in anger because we did not like something He did or didn’t do.

The truth is, many of us have likely had this experience.

I know I have personally had it on several occasions.

Sometimes, I disconnected in anger while other times, I disconnected without saying a word. However, I left without expecting to return many times.

There are several people at this present time who have disconnected from God. They have backslidden or fallen and are longing for an opportunity to experience the warmth of God’s grace once again. They have disconnected from God, but know their connection with God was the best they ever had. They think about

returning, but allow the fact that they left to distract them from returning.

I would be naïve to think just because you are reading this article that you’re not the person I am referring to.

The very one I am describing could very much be you.

The great thing about God is that He is very loving and He keeps His arms open to us. The bible tells us that God is married to the back sliders (Jeremiah 3:14). For the person who falls seven times and gets back up again, the bible refers to them as being just (Proverbs 24:16). Why does the bible call them just? Because they know to get back up and to position themselves in the will of God. They understand the grace of God and His faithfulness to His word to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). They know that man will always remember, but God will not keep record of our sin once we’ve been forgiven (Jeremiah 31:34). It’s just like the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32).

No matter how far you’ve gone, your Heavenly Father is always willing to welcome you back.

God is just waiting to hear you say one thing, “I’m coming back!” God is willing to welcome you back with open arms. He loves to hear from you. If this applies to you, I encourage you to take this time to communicate your heart to God and allow the forgiving, delivering, power of God to saturate your soul. When Mary Mary's Erica Campbell posted a new photo of herself on her Instagram page to announce her recent Grammy nomination for "A Little More Jesus," few could have predicted the firestorm it would spark in the Christian community. In the now infamous photo Campbell is wearing a figure-hugging white dress that shows off her curves. Way more than some Christians expect to see from a Gospel singer.

A week later, the photo is still a hot topic. "I'm taking it in stride and I'm keeping it moving," Campbell tells ESSENCE.com. "When we took the picture I felt beautiful, I felt confident, I felt sexy and I felt strong."

"I thought I looked cute," she says jokingly, "but it obviously offended some people, which was never my intention."

Campbell says soon after taking the photo, she sent it to her husband, producer Warryn Campbell, and her family

who supported her. "Our whole family loved it," says her sister Tina Campbell. "You see grace, you see beauty, you see elegance and style. It's wholesome."

The criticism has Campbell thinking there needs to be a bigger conversation about Christianity and sexuality.

"This is about confidence and realizing that God made you and that you are beautiful just the way you are," she says. "I think that young girls shouldn't only get sexy images from people who are not proclaiming Jesus. But I am. And I'm cute too."

The mom of three is currently gearing up for season three of her WE reality show with sister Tina and the release of her debut solo album.
