INTRODUCTION INTRO

Intro Hey Guys! „Modern Vespa“, i.e. the latest models that have been produced by PIAGGIO since 1996, are another big success for the traditional Italian manufacturer. Right from the start these scooters have been (and still are) dominating the registration statistics of many countries – Regardless of their ambitious price.

True heroes are known to be good for a surprise, when you desperately need one. By the early 90s PIAGGIO seemed to have run out of ideas.

While the PX and PK models had obviously passed their peak and the COSA was a major disappointment, Japanese manufacturers presented plenty of new and innovative concepts such as the Honda Helix. This is when Pontedera decided to go back to its roots and rely on the myth of the VESPA brand. The cult was successfully revived with the ET2 and ET4 models. Just like the original 1946 model, the MODERN VESPA models come with a self-supporting steel body, small wheels for maximum agility and a single sided swing arm in the front – indicating that the VEEPSA is far more than a means of transport, but pure cult and lifestyle.

Fortunately there is no need to worry about the future of the brand.

New markets bring new opportunities: it is especially in Asia, but also in America and Australia that the new Vespa models are thoroughly successful and have become one of the trendiest two wheelers, currently available – A symbol for wealth, coolness and liberty. INTRODUCTION MODEL OVERVIEW

FROM 2013 VESPA PRIMAVERA The Vespa Primavera was presented at the EICMA 2013 as a successor to the Vespa LX. It has a new steel body, a newly designed front wheel swing arm, and has 11 inch wheels at both the front and the rear. Its saddle height is also clearly lower than on the LX models. The Primavera is optionally powered by either the PIAGGIO 50cc 2T or the 50cc 4T 4-valve engine or by the 125/150cc 3V LEM engine. This is made in Asia. In some countries such as Vietnam, the Primavera is still delivered with the old LX chassis.

The Vespa Primavera is also available as a Touring model. On this model, chromed folding luggage carriers are fitted as standard to the front and the rear as well as a flyscreen.

Vespa Primavera

FROM 2014 VESPA SPRINT Vespa Sprint

The Vespa Sprint left up with the S model production series. The body, engine and chassis have been adopted from the Primavera models. The only difference in terms of the chassis are the 12 inch rims with 14 spokes. A square headlamp is used on the Sprint, which is similar to the earlier Vespa S. Vespa also offers engines ranging from 50-150cc here.

Since the beginning of 2015, the Vespa Sprint has also been available as a Sport version.

Here, the sporty character is characterised by the matt paintwork, the Rally Decor stickers of contrasting colour, the quilted seating and black wheel rims with a silver border.

GTS/GTS SUPER FROM 2014 Vespa GTS

At the end of 2014, PIAGGIO presented the new production series for the Vespa GTS models (GTS 300cc/ GTS Super 125-300cc).

Differences compared to the previous model are a changed speed dial (analogue/digital) with digital deceleration, indicators with LED daytime running light function, a new back light with a chrome frame, a bigger helmet compartment suitable for two PIAGGIO open face helmets and a new seat. The biggest technical advance is a new front suspension, optionally available with ABS/ABR. The chassis provides considerably more driving comfort and superior handling.

The Vespa GTS 300cc is also available as a Touring model. On this model, chromed folding luggage carriers are fitted as standard to the front and the rear as well as a flyscreen.

Frame Parts Chrome Kits Since the early 60s chrome accessories have represented a major proportion of the aftermarket items available for Vespas. Carriers allow you to transport your luggage safely and crash bars help protect the frame from damage. Whether chrome is added for practical or aesthetic purposes, every Vespa deserves some chrome ! We recommend to combine accessories produced by a single manufacturer as they are designed to fit together properly.

The chrome accessories available in PIAGGIO‘s own range stand out from the rest of the crowd with the excellent quality of the chrome plating itself. A very high quality, perfect surface finishing is combined with exact dimensioning, to guarantee a perfect appearance and fit.

A complicated brazing process eliminates the need for any unpleasant looking weld seams to be necessary in their production. (see close-up photo).

FACO ‚Chrome+‘ and ‚Gold Plated‘ accessories - MADE IN ITALY! The name ‚Chrome+‘ guarantees an extensive multiple phase finishing process. The components’ material is first brushed to ensure a solid plating base. The visible chrome surfacing is based upon two layers of nickel for added brilliance. The parts are precisely dimensioned and finished.

Luggage Carriers are the perfect accompaniment for short and long tours. Whether on your way to school or on a road trip to Sicily – you need to upgrade your storage area. If you´re on the road with lots of luggage, weight distribution is critical for a safe trip. Overloaded luggage carriers, both front and rear, have a negative influence on how your scooter handles. A suitable sport chassis suspension is a real help here. All carriers are supplied with mounting material!

Front Carriers are attached by either being hung over the legshield or being bolted to it, according to model (see product details). The greater the distance between the load area and the bottom of the headlight, the larger the space for luggage will be without blocking its beam. A maximum of 8 kg can be carried.

Rear Carriers are attached using the seat bolt thread. The grab rail is usually made redundant, as the pillion can now hold on to the carrier itself.

Luggage Racks provide an ideal platform for mounting a top case, textile or leather luggage bag.

Crash Bars and Bumpers are the ideal insurance to protect your scoot from scratches and dents. Everyone knows what can happen during a moment of inattention, during parking or a hard landing: that‘s when you wish you had sturdy protection. Personal injuries can be kept to a minimum, but what about having to fix up deep scratches in the original colour? Hard job and expensive. Rear crash bars that are solidly bolted to the frame (see product details) help protect the side panels against damage, even during heavy spills.

TOP CASE PIAGGIO FOR VESPA GTS/GTS SUPER 125/300CC (FROM `14 ON) This updated version of the PIAGGIO Top Case no longer includes the reflector, but can still be mounted on the older Vespa GTS models before 2013. The package has all fastenings and adapter bracket included, enabling attachment to an original PIAGGIO luggage carrier. GTS 300cc models are already equipped with a rear luggage carrier, therefore no additional luggage rack / carrier is necessary. No carrier is included with the GTS Super 125/300cc models, in this case a luggage carrier (part no 623977M0) is necessary to mount the Top Case. A back rest for the passenger is included in the delivery. This item comes un-mounted and its colour matches that of the standard seat. The Top Case can also be mounted on a luggage rack (part no FA0014) which is not included in the delivery.

Frame Parts Flyscreens & Windshields For many Vespisti, the feeling of fresh air in the face while riding is what makes scootering special. For all-season riders however, a flyscreen or windshield becomes an essential extra. According to their overall height, they protect the rider and their clothing from wind and weather and also provide more efficient aerodynamics. We have flyscreens and windshields available produced by FACO, ERMAX, PIAGGIO, MALOSSI, CUPPINI and ISOTTA. The majority of these items are manufactured using a 4mm thick, scratch and impact resistant, transparent acrylic material.

A Flyscreen (max height 215mm) represents an ideal compromise between the style and function of your Vespa and has been a design feature since the late 1970‘s. Riding with a flyscreen is much more pleasant and comfortable than without, especially in bad weather. The altered aerodynamics improve the airflow, your upper body is no longer fully exposed to the wind-stream and turbulence is reduced, too. All this adds up to a noticeably more relaxed riding experience.

A Medium-Sized windshield (max height 420mm) provides effective protection from wind and weather for the upper body and the hands of the rider. One of the most positive effects of a medium-sized windshield are the much improved aerodynamics which lead to less wind-noise and turbulence at head-level and also to a slightly higher top-speed!

We measure the screens, as they are attached to the scooter, from the top of the headlamp assembly to the upper edge of the screen and the maximum width.

A Full-Sized Windshield (min height 530mm) defends the whole of the upper body, head and hands against the effects of the cold, snow, rain, road-dirt and traffic-splash. These screens are especially indispensable in wintry conditions as they completely divert the windstream up and around the body and head of the rider. Also useful while travelling at motorway speeds.

The windshields and screens are delivered with all necessary fixings.

Registry documentation is included, too. All PIAGGIO flyscreens and windshields have a European approval for legal road use with their respective model of Vespa. Proof of this can be found right on the screen.

Frame Parts Mirrors, Grips & Levers With a lever length that is approx. 5-6 cm shorter, the PIAGGIO ‘Shorty‘ mirror slots in optimally with the overall image of the Vespa. The ball joint means the mirror head can be adjusted easily and the field of vision is not compromised, despite the shorter lever. The mirror features an E-mark and can be used for driving in road traffic without any problem. The mirrors are supplied including rubber caps and lock nuts.

Conclusion: Those who find the original mirrors unattractive, but don‘t want to miss out the original visuals, should go for the PIAGGIO ‚Shorty‘ mirrors.

Mounting Instructions: Remove the original foot pegs from the scooter.

The existing fixing bolts, springs and circlips from the original mechanism are retained. The forward (larger) fixing bolt is first removed with the help of a centre-punch tool. Carefully remove the circlip from the bolt on the foot peg and remove it also. Reverse the removal procedure in order to mount the replacement foot pegs. INDICATOR KIT LED PIAGGIO for Vespa GTS/GTS Super/GTV/GT 60/GT/GTL (till `13) Genuine PIAGGIO Indicators with LED running-light function found on the 2014 Vespa GTS / GTS Super models. The front indicators possess white coloured LED running-lights. They are noticeably brighter than previous indicators of this type due to the use of 6W halogen bulbs. The indicator signal they produce alternates between the indicator bulb and that of the running-light. Includes EU approval marking.

The older Vespa GTS/GTV/GT/GTL models can be retro-fitted with these updated items by anybody with some skill! This conversion requires the connectors on the new indicator units to be swapped. To make use of the running-lights wires needs to be laid from the parking light to the left and right indicator. All necessary plugs, connectors, both front indicators and bulbs are included in this kit. An illustrated mounting instruction is also included.

INDICATOR KIT LED for Vespa Primavera/Sprint A LED Indicator Kit with integrated daytime running lights. These LED lamps ensure improved visibility in traffic, even noticeable during the daylight hours! The front sidelights are blue in colour, red at the rear, the indicator lamps remains orange. We recommend they be wired to the parking lights at the front and with the back light unit at the rear. A little technical knowledge is required. As well as the four indicator units, all connection cables and the necessary indicator relay module are also included in the kit.

EU certificated / available as a clear or black version

This kit is an ideal upgrade for the 50cc models as they were never factory equipped with running lights. The indicator cannot be mounted at 125/150cc models, because the plug of the front indicator doesn´t fit.

The seats on the Primavera/Sprint 125/150cc models can be swapped around but they cannot be used on the 50cc models due to the electrical seat adjustment. In turn, the seats on the 50cc models cannot be used on the 125/150cc models due to the manual seat adjustment (with the lock and key).

The seats on the GTS/GTS Super models starting from 2014 year of construction can be swapped with each other, but they cannot be used on the models up to and including 2013 year of construction.

Also, the seats from the old GTS models cannot be fitted to the Facelift models from 2014 onwards.

TRANSMISSION VARIATOR / ZELIONI CLUTCH The ZELIONI Variomatic was developed especially to be ideally suited to the weight and wheel dimensions of the Vespa GTS/GT models. High precision CNC machining, including an exactly recalculated ramp roller weight angle, ensures optimal acceleration combined with an increase in maximum speed. A pulley pressure spring, a set of various vario-roller weights and spacer washers are included in the delivery.

We recommend the use of the slightly shorter ‚V‘ belt (#P248052 / #PI832623) from the Vespa GT 200 models. This avoids eventual contact with the gasket of the oil sump of the Engine during use. This extra modification does not affect the top speed. This Variomatic from ZELIONI is designed for exclusive use in combination with the included ZELCLB01

ZELIONI roller weights, do not attempt to replace them with any other aftermarket items such as Dr.Pulley, etc. The tension pulley between Variator and clutch can be omitted.

The ZELIONI Clutch Bell has a hard chromed surface and is made from one single unit. Its wall thickness is clearly thicker than it is the case on the original. This makes it completely dimensionally stable and with no imbalance. The fine grain blasted pressure surface on the interior side offers the ideal traction between the clutch and the bell. This means jerky clutches are a thing of the past.

Absolutely perfect performance in combination with the ZELIONI ‚V‘ belt and clutch bell.

RACING EXHAUST AKRAPOVIC ‘BLACK EDITION’ This attractive Exhaust from AKRAPOVIC offers an ideal compromise between performance and a high-end look. The engineers at this Slovenian exhaust producing giant have used the experience gained during the collaboration with numerous Moto GP and Superbike racers to make these high end systems available to the consumer.

Both the hexagonal silencer unit and the connecting manifold are produced using V4A stainless steel. The silencers themselves come with a decently lasered AKRAPOVIC logo, DB-killer and a carbon fibre end cap.

The REMUS RSC System possesses many convincing features and a modified silencer. Another plus point is the increased diameter of the manifold pipe which combined with the lack of a catalyser cartridge allows an extra 2PS to be available! Similar to other exhausts in the ‚RX‘ range, they are equipped with a carbon fibre end-cap on the silencer and weight only 3.5 Kg – considerably less than versions produced by other manufacturers. In contrast to the existing ‚RX‘ pipes, with an aluminium silencer, the ‚Black Edition‘ allows the inclusion of a catalytic converter cartridge between the silencer and the rest of the exhaust. This qualifies it for both E9 and E5 certification. The inclusion of the catalytic unit has no effect on the power output of the pipe, although its overall shape has also been slightly redesigned. This new form relocates the silencer, so creating a more harmonious overall look. Its total length has also lost an inch or so. If you require a little extra power in your set up, look no further. MALOSSI also produce a DB-killer for this exhaust, although its use cancels the EU certification conformity and road legality.

RACING EXHAUST SCORPION ‘RED POWER’ The all new ‘RED POWER’ Racing Exhaust represents a new generation of performance components created by SCORPION. The hexagonal silencer is available with a brushed stainless steel look or a darker titanium shade. Both silencer types include a black end-cap and a removable DB-Killer. The red decorative ring surrounding the DB-Killer gives the pipe a sporting appearance and is true to its given name – ‘RED POWER’!

RACING EXHAUST TURBO KIT ‘GMAX’ TURBO KIT is another company that has managed to find its way from the race track to the road. The ‘GMax’ Racing Exhaust from the Spaniards represents an all-rounder exhaust for the Modern Vespa, with which not only the looks and performance, but also value for money is ideal. The ‘Turbo Kit’ systems are up to 1.5kg lighter than the original items.

MALOSSI has taken the motor tuning credo that ‘Nothing beats capacity, except more capacity’ and are now producing a 218cc Cylinder. Up till now, extensive crankshaft modifications were necessary in order to increase its cubic capacity beyond 209cc. Now Vespa GT / GTS or Gilera VX owners can also enjoy the benefits that more power can provide! The extra capacity is attained by increasing the bore diameter to 75.5mm, which also provides a noticeable boost in torque delivery, compared to its 209cc predecessor.

Further advanced features, such as the aluminium construction and nicasil lined bore, are the typical signs of uncompromisingly high quality that we have come to expect from all MALOSSI parts. The 218cc cylinder is compatible with both the original and the MALOSSI ‚V-4‘ cylinder heads.

If you are planning a full-power motor project then we can recommend this 218cc cylinder kits. The complete cylinder kit available for motors with carburettors includes a sharper camshaft and the MALOSSI ‚V-4‘ cylinder head. The tuning kit for motors equipped with fuel-injection also includes the ’FORCEMASTER 2‘ fuel-injection control module.

TUNING KIT POLINI for Vespa GTS/GTS Super/GTV i.e. 300cc 4T LC This POLINI Tuning Kit was developed especially for the 300cc Vespa GTS/GTS Super/GTV models and includes a camshaft, valve springs, piston and an ECU injection unit in the delivery.

The redeveloped camshaft profile provides a noticeable increase in performance. The inlet valve timing has been increased from 6.9 to 8.1 mm.

This delivers an extra portion of torque and raises the maximum power output. The included valve springs prevent any valve flatter and the forged piston raises the compression from 10.8:1 to 12.1:1. POLINI ECU ‘ENGINE CONTROL UNIT’ for Vespa LX/S/Primavera/946 3V i.e. 125/150cc/GTS Super/GTV i.e. 300cc The POLINI Engine Control Unit (ECU) is the most advanced programmable fuel injection module currently available for use with four-stroke fuel injected motors. The fuel delivery can be regulated by adjusting the parameters of both the ignition and injections timing. The adjustment takes place on the injection module itself, is very simple to operate and can be adjusted by the rider himself with no special tools.

The MALOSSI module simulates the signal of the original unit while simultaneously ensuring the correct fuel/air mixture suitable for more highly tuned motor set ups.

This MALOSSI unit allows a straightforward ‘plug & play’ power increase for fuel injected motors, preventing the CDI unit being confused with electronic ‘error’ messages.

BRAKE CALLIPER BREMBO / ZELIONI, FRONT The original brake callipers do not have a reputation for being the strongest of components available and deserve immediate replacement when a better braking performance is desired. This becomes especially apparent while crossing the Alps, caught in heavy urban traffic or on the motorway. To solve these problems we have a Brake Calliper, produced by BREMBO, available with a suitable ZELIONI Adapter. The calliper is simply bolted with the adapter in the place of the original unit. The adapter and brake calliper are available separately.

PAINT PENS & SPRAY SIP Paint Pens can often be used to repair small defects in the paint work.

The pens are delivered in a 20ml bottle, for a easy handling a small brush is integrated in the cap. Metallic paint pens require a special clear lacquer paint (part no 61075100), matt paintwork another (part no 61075000).

The 400ml spray cans are equipped with 'fat-cap' spray head caps.

Metallic paintwork requires a special type of clear lacquer paint: (part no 14997805), matt paintwork another: (pat no 14997806). The colour code

(e.g. 544 ) of your scooters paintwork can always be found on its VIN plate.
