1996 - 2005 VESPA ET2 In 1996 the Modern Vespa ‘prototype’ was launched with an air-cooled 50cc 2 stroke engine. the 1997 version had an engine with fuel injection. From 2000 on it was also available as a 4 stroker.

Vespa LX
In 2005 the „LX“ superseded the „Et“ series, equipped with bigger 11“ wheels and modern 2- or 4-valve 4-stroke engines (Hi Per 50cc and L.E.A.D.E.r. 125-150cc). From 2012 on a new Euro3 3-valve engine (L.E.M. = Low EMission) has been used, recognizable by its angular horn cover insert. In roman numbers „LX“ means „60” and in 2006 the Vespa celebrated its 60th birthday. the special model „LXV“ thus evokes the original design of the 60s’ models with single saddle. „V“ stands for „Vintage“. While Piaggio saved on the 50cc models here and does not deliver them with a painted footwell, the 125cc models come with a complete paintjob. Since 2012 also a slimmed down version has been available in India. It costs 800 US $ and comes with a drum brake in the front and 10“ wheels. Being the most popular model in Asia, often times the LX is the one and only available Modern Vespa there.
VESPA ET4 Also the Et4 was launched in 1996. With these new models (available in 125cc and 150cc) 2 stroke engines were rigorously dismissed. Until 1999 Piaggio had still produced Euro1 engines, from 2000 on Euro2 L.E.A.D.E.r. (Low Emission Advanced Engine range) engines. the new models do no longer have a kick starter. As “4” is considered an unlucky number in Asia, the model is called “Et8“ there.
TOURING there is a „touring“ version available of almost every model. these special editions are equipped with chromed front and rear luggage carriers and a small flyscreen as standard.

Encouraged by the success of the Et models, in 2003 the „Gran turismo“ series is launched with 125cc and 200cc models. It stands out through its high suitability for daily use and its modern L.E.A.D.E.r. engines. As standard it is equipped with a luggage rack and a round rear light.
