Blast from the Past FASHION

By Chellee Unruh

There are fashion trends from the past that we never thought we would see back in retail stores, but some of them are popping up again and we’re not mad about it. Here are some blast from the past fashion trends that were popular in the 80’s and 90’s that are back and being styled in a way that makes them relevant again.

Biker Shorts 80’s - An oversized sweatshirt and a pair of tight biker shorts were all the rage during the 80’s. Parents today are probably having flash backs when scrolling TikTok and finding a new generation enjoying this comfortable wardrobe staple and showing off the versatility of biker shorts as the latest trend in athleisure clothing.

Fanny Pack 80’s - Fanny packs aka bum bags were the ultimate handsfree accessory of the 80’s that buckled around your waist allowing you to make a fashion statement and carry all your essentials at the same time. To be current with this trend you no longer strap it around your waist, it is worn over your shoulder with the front bag going across your chest, hence their new name “the cross-body bag.” Those of us that originated this fashion trend know that no matter how you wear it, it is still a fanny pack but we are here for it.

Mom Jeans from the 90’s - You can put your skinny jeans toward the back of your closet, because mom jeans are back in style. You know the type; they are high waisted and have a loose-fitting leg that tapers as it gets closer to the ankle. Pair this jean with a crop top, some sandals or big white sneakers and you will easily be on trend.

Sweater Vest 90’s - This went out of style?! “As If” Anyone that watched the popular 90’s movie Clueless remember this expression and the iconic sweater vest that was worn over a slightly longer flowy button-down shirt paired with a plaid mini skirt, knee-high stockings and Mary Jane shoes. The next time you are out rollin’ with your homies, throw on a sweater vest over a button-down shirt and everyone will think you are a total Betty!

Big Hair Claw Clips 2000’s - What is great about this trend coming back is that it is not only cute, it is also very functional! Big clips in all sorts of fun colors and designs are a great way to pull your hair back when you are headed to the gym or need a quick and easy updo. The big hair claw clip would also pair nicely with your mom jeans and crop top. Cheers to effortless fashion! n
