Dance Drama: The Voyage Down South (Commissioned by Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan)
Born in a small rural land in the Fujian Province of China, Ah Hock lived a poor but happy life. He usually helped his family during the faming, and when the season of harvest was over, he would follow his father and help with the building of houses. Life was poor but Ah Hock’s family was still able to manage and pull through, until the Chinese Civil War broke out.
As the raging war worsened the living conditions in China, Ah Hock had no other choice but to leave his family behind and venture down south to Singapore in hope of seeking fortune there.
Bracing through the stormy sea, he eventually landed in Singapore and was surprised by the many opportunities the island offered.
Through tenacity and perseverance, the values of Hokkiens, he successfully earned fame and wealth, as well as won the love of his life.
