The Jessamine County Homeless Coalition does a lot more than simply run a shelter. The executive director, Johnny Templin, has introduced various projects that benefit charity here in Jessamine County directly. One being Bingo gaming, and another being their annual fall festival. On top of raising funds to better serve our homeless, JCHC also shares CommUNITY meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they feed hundreds of people locally, regardless of need.
The Christmas CommUNITY meal will be at Jessamine County Public Library on December 22nd. There are several ways you can be involved in this project, you can (1) donate food. Templin said that the need this year is on meats, but of course, they welcome any food donation for the meals. You could also (2) help cook the meals. If you would like to volunteer to cook, just contact Templin, and he will work out the details alongside you. You also have the option to (3) volunteer to serve meals. Whether you have an hour or all day, JCHC would be grateful to have you serve meals from the library on the 22nd. Lastly, you can (4) just come enjoy a free meal.
JCHC has also expanded to the Center for Growth and Hope. This center helps those in need with programs for Domestic Violence, Family First, Veterans, and Substance Abuse Treatment for both Men and Women. While the facility isn’t open yet, it is coming soon to offer you more services, more programs, and more community.
