SIMPSON YACHT CHARTER What to consider when chartering yachts in Asia and how to select your perfect charter yacht

Sanlorenzo SX88 - M/Y OZONE

WWW.SIMPSONYACHTCHARTER.COM A charter vacation in South East Asia is about as close to paradise as you can get. An unforgettable break filled with crystal waters, dreamlike coves and delicious cuisine is guaranteed, but there are a few important things to consider when choosing your charter to ensure it is perfect for you. Of course, the Simpson Yacht Charter team is always on hand to advise you, answer any questions and help match you with your perfect charter yacht.

Season Although all of Asia boasts warm weather and waters year round, as a rough guide, the Andaman seas, including many of the cruising grounds of Thailand and Myanmar are best visited from November to April to avoid the monsoon season that brings with it higher chances of rain. Equally, sitting so close to the equator, the weather in Singapore is fairly constant, and it is always a good time to escape the heat of the city on a charter break, while the hot summer months are the time to enjoy a beach break in Hong Kong. Indonesia can offer good cruising conditions year round, depending on location, but the best time

Don’t just take our word that our charter division is world class. Here we let the latest testimonials from our happy customers – both charter clients and charter management clients – speak for themselves

TESTIMONIALS - CHARTER GUESTS 31M S/Y SILVER LINING Bin

“Our group enjoyed a week long charter, starting in Phuket through Chalong Bay, Koh Mai Thon, Phi Phi Islands with the mythical Maya Bay, Koh Ngai, Koh Muk, Koh Haa with its renowned dive sites, Koh Rok Nok with its pristine coral lagoons, and Koh Lipe and Langkawi, as final destinations. We enjoyed our time aboard the yacht featuring four cabins with a beautiful master in clean wooded oak finish and fully equipped with water toys including diving equipment, snorkels, kayaks, paddle boards and two dinghies. We will be back!”

15.85M S/Y BLUE MOON (LAGOON 52F) Anonymous

“Everything was perfect, from the cruise preparation to the transport on arrival and all the way utill the end of the charter cruise. The boat was perfectly prepared and equipped by the team, with specially made Blue Moon products. The food was excellent with a mix of Thai and Western food and the staff on board were very professional and friendly. The skipper even showed us some rare places near Kho Lanta, with the very convenient tender, adding much joy to our holiday. It was our first journey on board Blue Moon and certainly not the last.”

15.85M S/Y BLUE MOON (LAGOON 52F) Manon

“I am back to work today and I still cannot express how much we enjoyed the weekend on Blue Moon. The fact I was able to show my friends a little piece of life on the ocean was already amazing. However from the moment we arrived until we left the crew did an amazing job and the yacht itself was very well maintained and clean, and I was happy the wind was good enough to have a great sail at some point as well. The captain seemed to be very well known in the area and he brought us to the ‘prime spots’ for a bit but knew also how to avoid the touristic feeling. We felt like the only ones at the most beautiful beaches and that added so much to the exclusive feel we were aiming for. Simply amazing. Furthermore the provisioning came out perfectly… the chef was amazing – I left everything up to her and she read our minds perfectly well, my guests were very much impressed. Once again, thank you so much and I truly hope to come back. THANK YOU SO MUCH!”

23.28M JOY (LAGOON SEVENTY 7) Bill & Hayley

“This has been the most remarkable vacation - a month on a boat with an unknown crew, and for the crew unknown guests, was a stab in the dark - it has proved to be one of the best decisions of our lives. Four weeks on a very special boat, crewed by four very special people has been a JOY and a privilege. Captain CJ’s sailing skills took us to perfect locations at every stage - avoiding “bombies” all the way. Every member of the crew has contributed significantly to our enJOYment - never an empty glass and such quality and variety of meals that deserve Michelin stars. CJ’s knowledge of the likely locations of the different areas to view, from tiny fish to 4 metre manta rays is uncanny! We have had the most memorable sightings of whales, manta, sting and eagle rays as well as dolphins off the bow and sharks swimming around us. I don’t possess adequate superlatives in wishing to say a huge thanks to the whole crew - you have all been stars and made our dream a reality. From our hearts, thank you all. ”

TESTIMONIALS - CHARTER MANAGEMENT OWNERS 12.8M MISS COCO (LAGOON 421) Ms. Xie “We are the owners of Miss Coco, the Lagoon 421 we bought this year. We knew of Simpson Marine and had heard that Simpson is the best company for the brokerage, yacht care and charter in Asia, so we asked them to help us buy a boat and let them do the yacht care and the charter for us. After we bought Miss Coco, the staff from Simpson helped us handle every aspect of the sale, and then serviced the boat before she began chartering. We trusted them so just let them do it, and they gave us very clear information on work that needed to be completed before chartering. Now, Miss Coco is getting more and more beautiful. Thanks so much to all the Simpson Marine staff. We chose the right team to take care of our boat and now she is in a top condition for yacht charters that are already booking up.”

12.8M CLOUD DANCER (LAGOON 42) Mr. Child “My colleague is loving it [the Simpson Marine charter management service] which is great news. I cannot wait to get back there myself and am really enjoying the way it is all working.”

HOW TO DECIDE

WHAT TYPE OF YACHT IS BEST FOR YOU?

Once you have made the exciting decision to buy a yacht of your own, there is one main question to answer. Whether to buy a brand new yacht or to opt for one of Simpson Marine’s extensive brokerage fleet? There are advantages to both choices, but our team can advise you on which option is best suited to you and the needs of your family. Whatever type of yacht you opt for, the buying process should be an enjoyable one and the start of many memory-filled years on the water. LEADING THE WAY

SUPERYACHTS AND PLASTIC-FREE OCEANS The luxury yachting industry is universally passionate about the ocean, relying on it for both our livelihoods and our enjoyment, taking pleasure in exploring the most beautiful and unspoilt marine environments in the world. In the Asia Pacific we enjoy a particularly rich and beautiful seascape, with crystal clear waters, vast stretches of clean beaches and an abundance of marine life. When marvelling at this beauty it can sometimes be easy to forget the big challenge facing our oceans – plastic pollution. Sadly, even the most pristine waters have plastic pollution, demonstrating a truly global problem. Sobering images of plastic-choked beaches and dead whales are the realities of eight million tons of plastic waste entering our oceans every year. Vast floating garbage patches have formed in the five main ocean gyres, and over 90 percent of seabirds have ingested plastics, mistaking them for food. With a large amount of the world’s recycling sent to Asia for processing, we need to ensure this doesn’t spill into our beautiful waters, and aim to reduce the amount of plastic sent in the first place. Simpson Marine have formally committed to Plastic Free Oceans, and have supported a number of clean up and educational schemes in Hong Kong, including WWF’s Coastal Watch, which has undertaken a hugely successful clean-up of our coastline, sea surface and seabed. However, with a third of all ocean plastic coming from the sea itself, mainly due to spilled cargo and fishing waste, it is essential that superyachts are part of the solution, not the problem. The long-established MARPOL rules exist to prevent pollution from ships, with annex V citing the complete ban of dumping plastic into the ocean, however the reality is that we need to go above and beyond these regulations to protect the marine environment we all love. With the majority of existing initiatives focused on the issue of land-based plastics entering the oceans, it is up to the yachting sector to demonstrate the gold standard of sea-based plastic management. Therefore, at the start of 2018, Simpson Marine signed an official pledge to promote a Plastic Free policy with our owners and crew, at the same time as substantially reducing our own single-use plastic across the company. Since then we have seen plastic free and eco-friendly movements gain momentum, with yachting based initiatives such as the Clear Oceans Pact gaining more support, as well as a growing number of ‘green’ superyachts on the market that employ new technologies, from hybrid engines to solar generators to reduce their environmental impact. SHIPYARD FOCUS: SANLORENZO

SANLORENZO AND THE WORLD OF ART A LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP

Leading Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has enjoyed a long relationship with the world of art thanks to the visionary leadership of Sanlorenzo CEO Massimo Perotti who understands that the worlds of bespoke yachts, art and design are highly complementary. Over the years Perotti has instigated a number of partnerships that have allowed Sanlorenzo to draw on the best influences from the art world in order to create exceptional yachts. Recent strategies have included the formalisation of a global partnership with the esteemed Art Basel which hosts events around the world in destinations including Basel, Miami and Hong Kong. The Hong Kong edition of Art Basel, held 29-31 March 2019 was a huge success and featured an exclusive installation in the collectors lounge presented by Sanlorenzo. This one of a kind installation was designed by Piero Lissoni, Sanlorenzo Art Director, in homage to the Taiwan-born Chinese artist Alixe Fu, in collaboration with the Amanda Wei Gallery.

Lissoni’s design was also complemented by Sanlorenzo’s special ‘Meet the Artist’ event at the show, where esteemed guests of Sanlorenzo had the chance to meet Alixe Wu for themselves. Wu’s artwork is represented by the Amanda Wei Gallery in Hong Kong, with Wei herself one of a growing number of Sanlorenzo owners based in Asia. Sanlorenzo’s presence at Art Basel Hong Kong was a demonstration of the brand’s growing presence and popularity in Asia. “It was a great pleasure for Sanlorenzo to be present at Art Basel Hong Kong for the first time and collaborating with Asian artists with the support of Amanda Wei Gallery,” says Perotti. “For years Sanlorenzo has been breaking boundaries in the world of art and design, finding various complementary ways to express the concept of Sanlorenzo: timeless beauty paired with top quality. And this is one of the many reasons

Art Basel 2019 in Basel

why a Sanlorenzo yacht is different from others.” This partnership with the world of art has seen Sanlorenzo establish a strong presence at a number of leading global events, and the yard also incorporates the world of art wherever possible in the day to day development of luxury yachts. Prior to Art Basel Hong Kong 2019, Sanlorenzo has also displayed installations at other key art fairs, while also collaborating with important galleries and cultural institutions. This way of thinking outside the box of traditional yacht design is what sets Sanlorenzo apart from its peers. For when the worlds of art and superyacht combine, something special can be created.

SHIPYARD FOCUS: SANLORENZO

SANLORENZO/ AN ENDURING SUCCESS STORY Sanlorenzo has had a busy year, with a number of new projects making their debuts, an impressive order book and strong presence at events around the globe. As one of the world’s leading shipyards, Sanlorenzo’s presence in Asia continues to go from strength to strength with growing numbers of Asia based owners choosing to invest in this premium brand.

The yard’s continued achievements were reflected at the annual international Deloitte Best Managed Company Awards, where the yard was awarded the prestigious ‘Best Managed Company’ award for the second year running. At the awards ceremony particular tribute was paid to the visionary leadership of Sanlorenzo CEO Massimo Perotti who has guided the yard to the position of strength it holds today. Part of Sanlorenzo’s long term strategy is the continued development of new models to meet market demand. The new SD96, SL96 Asymmetric, and impressive 64Steel have debuted at 2019 boat shows, giving show visitors a

chance to see the latest Sanlorenzo models for themselves. The SD96 is the first Sanlorenzo design to feature an interior by acclaimed designer Patricia Urquiola; the SL96A is a smaller version of the popular SL102A design; while the superyacht flagship 64Steel ATTILA has turned heads at the Monaco Yacht Show 2019. In addition, Sanlorenzo also displayed a range of their other models including the SX76, SX88 and SL102 asymmetric yacht, and the SD126. The 64Steel ATTILA was a milestone launch for the Sanlorenzo team, as the yard’s most prestigious and imposing flagship to date. Summer 2019 has also seen Sanlorenzo return to the Waterfront Costa Smeralda in Marine di Porto Cervo, where it has presented a special showcase space designed by Sanlorenzo Art Director Piero Lissoni. Never content to rest on its laurels, Sanlorenzo is always thinking of new and clever ways to reach target buyers and to develop new designs that will excite all who see them. SANLORENZO AND STEVE LEUNG CONTINUE THEIR PARTNERSHIP Sanlorenzo is known for cultivating long term relationships with worldclass designers and artists and one such partnership has been between Sanlorenzo Asia and esteemed Hong Kong architect and designer Steve Leung of the Hong-Kong based Steve Leung Design Group. Sanlorenzo initially collaborated with Steve on an ‘Asia Edition’ design for the yard’s popular SL106 model and the reception was so good that in March 2019 it was announced that Steve and Sanlorenzo will be working together again, with a focus on Sanlorenzo’s groundbreaking SX88 crossover model. “Following the great success of our first collaboration with Sanlorenzo, I am elated to join forces with Sanlorenzo and Simpson Marine once again,” says Steve. As a keen yachtsmen, Steve is able to bring his own yachting experience into play while creating inspiring designs that appeal to a wide range of buyers.

94

The Sanlorenzo SX ‘crossover’ range was first developed to draw on the best of sport and explorer yachts and deliver a new breed of yacht to owners with an adventurous spirit. The SX88 was the first model to be launched in the series, and the current flagship, and this beautiful design cleverly combines the best features of a traditional classic flybridge yacht with an explorer focus. Working with Steve, Sanlorenzo was keen to develop a version of the SX88 design that would be suited to the discerning Asian buyers and the fast-evolving and demanding Asian market. With large open spaces and a modern silhouette, and a focus on social living, the SX88 is well suited to the Asian market and Steve has created two stunning interior concepts to present to clients, with further customization options also possible. emerald green shades to inspire serenity, all complemented by luxurious furniture with textured fabrics. The second design is the ‘Vermillion’ option, which is a more daring choice that draws inspiration from circular, stronger shapes and colours, with a palette of reds, oranges and soothing creams and beiges. “By adopting a contemporary design style infused with the finest details in forms, lines and colours, we hope to establish another new take on yacht design through a flawless integration of international lifestyle with local cultural features, paired with a perfect balance of aesthetics and functionality, suitable for the needs of the Asian market,” explains Steve. Sanlorenzo is delighted with the partnership with Steve, with Master cabin in “Vermillion“ scheme

more collaborations planned. The SX88 Steve Leung designs were formally presented at the Singapore Yacht Show 2019 where they were incredibly well received. “Working with Steve is a delight and we are fortunate to have such expertise right here in Hong Kong,” says Nick Stratton, Sanlorenzo Asia Sales Manager. “Steve Leung himself is a keen yachtsman, and this is clear to see in his ability to break the mould yet at the same time design a yacht that is practical to use and hits perfectly the market in Hong Kong and the rest of Asia. A deep understanding of how clients here use their yachts is instrumental in knowing the functions they require.” To enquire about your own Sanlorenzo yacht with Steve Leung interior design please contact the team at sanlorenzo@simpsonmarine.com.

Over the years Fairline Yachts have built a respected international reputation thanks to their highly finished, spacious and sophisticated yachts. Now, after 55 years in the business, this iconic British yachting brand is bigger and better than ever, with a number of exciting new developments in the pipeline.

A busy end to 2019 included the formal launch of two new models, an expanding global presence and a huge investment into product growth. The Cannes Yachting Festival 2019 marked the official debut of both Fairline’s impressive new flagship, the Squadron 68, and the sporty F//Line 33. Combining the very best of British craftsmanship with the artistic flair of Italian megayacht designer Alberto Mancini, these two new Fairline vessels deliver the best of both worlds. The Squadron 68 boasts contemporary styling and generous, well considered layouts, ideal for both entertaining and family based fun. Her customisable interiors feature a location based theme, including Amalfi, Capri, the Hamptons and most appropriately, considering her debut on the French Riviera: St Tropez. Her sleek little sister, the F//Line 33 was met with many admiring glances during her private reveal in London, and her timeless design, elegant lines and high performance engines made an equally good impression when publicly debuted in Cannes. Once she has completed her tour of Europe, the Asian market will also be able to view the F//Line 33 in Singapore from March 2020 onwards.

The boat is such a fantastic platform for outdoor living and we use it to the fullest to enjoy water sports, with wake boarding becoming a new sort of hobby for me. We go out fishing and tend to stay overnight quite often, enjoying the peaceful surroundings of the sea, which allows us to fully relax after our busy work schedules. We organised a birthday party for my son on board and he loved it too. I also use the yacht quite often for corporate entertaining and various sorts of events for my dance and fitness studio, EDC Funky Dance, which promotes body shaping and fitness through music and fun rather than regular gym exercise. LIVING THE LIFE IN THAILAND HOWARD PRIME

Country Manager, Thailand

I worked for global yacht charter companies as a Captain (Master 200gt) before establishing myself in Thailand. I have been lucky enough to sail in many gorgeous locations around the world but my favourite to date would have to be Koh Roi and Koh Pak Bia in the waters around Krabi. From my experience here in Phuket, undoubtedly the best advice for fellow sailors would be to avoid places such as Maya Bay, Phi Phi and James Bond Island and head for the hundreds of quiet, less visited islands, which will provide an experience a lot more akin to how the better known places here in the Andaman Sea once were.

Country Manager, Taiwan We were able to enjoy a three-day trip to Penghu in the company of several owners. Our surroundings were very beautiful and inspiring and in fact two of the owners’ wives are artists and they drew many beautiful pictures during our time on the water. We had a great three days of sailing on a Beneteau Oceanis 60 and the weather was perfect. It was the ideal setting for exploring several of Penghu’s beautiful islands. The whole trip was a pleasure, but one of the highlights had to be exploring the area’s many coral gardens. There are many amazing dive sites, all filled with beautiful tropical fish and a kaleidoscope of colours. The landscape was equally breathtaking on top of the water, with the picturesque rock formations of the islands forming the main source of inspiration for our resident artists. We were completely free to enjoy this relaxing time on the yacht, as we hired a professional chef who treated us to dish after dish of delicious food. Every meal was a delight, particularly a nautical themed sashimi dinner, which featured a stunning presentation complete with shells,

NEW MODEL REVIEW 2019/20 A SELECTION OF THE BEST NEW YACHTS OUT THIS SEASON TO INSPIRE YOU

SANLORENZO SL96

SIMPLY ASYMMETRIC

Among the world’s leading producers of yachts and superyachts, Sanlorenzo is preparing to present a new, innovative and bold project, which once again demonstrates its ability to go beyond the limits posed by nautical design and to undertake new directions, thanks to a unique combination of technology and craftsmanship and a precise design concept: the SL96 Asymmetric yacht. The SL96 Asymmetric rethinks the canonical layout of a yacht, retaining only the side decks on the starboard side and eliminating the left one, which is carried on the roof of the superstructure, allowing 10sqm of surface space to be recovered to the benefit of the interior, through this asymmetric configuration. Something which has never been tried before. A layout that, compared to a traditional one, offers more space, brightness, relaxation and better flexibility of use.

130

SANLORENZO SD96

BOLD DESIGN, INCREDIBLE VOLUME, SAFE PASSAGEMAKING

Newly designed by Patricia Urquiola, the SD96 is the entry level model of Sanlorenzo’s historic semidisplacement SD yacht line. This striking 28 metre vessel will replace the SD92, another of the shipyard’s success stories, which was launched in 2007 with 27 units sold. The beautiful SD96 is a natural evolution from the SD92, while still retaining the stylish hallmarks that Sanlorenzo is known for. She is our favourite new design this year!

NEW MODEL REVIEW: SANLORENZO

SANLORENZO 62STEEL

HELIPAD ON THE BOW, ULTIMATE WELLNESS FACILITIES

The 62STEEL comes with three interior layout options and two top deck profile options – one offers a fully enclosed top deck with wheelhouse that creates a private owner’s deck below, while the other is a more conventional arrangement of an open sun deck and an enclosable veranda under the mast.

132

SANLORENZO 64STEEL

SUPERYACHT FLAGSHIP, MULTI AWARD WINNER FIVE DECKS OF EXCELLENCE

Sanlorenzo has crossed another threshold and reached another goal. With the 64STEEL it launches its most prestigious and most imposing flagship, a 64 metre vessel which is roomy, spacious, and welcoming like an 80 metre ship. Rich in brilliant and courageous solutions she offers a qualitative level of on-board social life such as has never before been seen in a 1,600 GRT yacht.

ENTRY GATE TO THE SPORT UTILITY YACHT

The BG42 is the entry gate to the Bluegame range of Sport Utility yachts. At 12.98m (42’55”), this stunning vessel is packed with the same luxurious features as a larger yacht – such as multiple outdoor living spaces, uninterrupted ocean views, a sleek yet highly functional interior, and a swim platform/tender dock. Built with excellent seaworthiness and environmental credentials, it is the perfect entry level vessel and acts as an ideal introduction to the Bluegame brand. The central part of the stern platform can lower to launch and board a 9’ tender and to create a swimming platform.
