Bedrock

Integrating aspects of architecture, landscape, and infrastructure, the proposal occupies an ambiguous territory somewhere between the three, thereby functioning simultaneously as a public park, an industrial excavation site for the extraction of matter and energy, a recycling and refinery plant for the processing of that matter and energy, and an educational center distributed throughout the upper surface of the park through which the public are introduced to the inner workings of the complex.

As such, the proposal might be seen as an ambiguous assemblage of differing functionalities, some of which are more prosaic in nature, and some of which are more discursive in nature, in terms of the material, formal, and spatial aesthetics they engender and the ideas and concepts related to such aesthetics.

The waste monument is a multi-layer system. Above the ground is the plastic tree sculpture that forms an allee landscape. The industrial infrastructure was hidden underneath the artificial grass field. It extract, refine, and process materials from landfill waste. Part of the industrial landscape would penetrate the artificial ground and provide visitors with vertical access to the underground space.

Rooftop Shared Program

This project proposes a mixed community that is consists of diverse groups of residents, who come from different cultural backgrounds yet share a common lifestyle within designed interactive space. The original Italian market would be an cultural cornerstone, which later extends as a part of the shared program by the community but also welcomes any outside visitors.

Sunken Plaza

The housing part of the building is lifted and a sunken plaza is created below since the building is expected to be a focal point that not only serves as an attractive urban space for the local community but also engages certain festivals and events.
