HEDDA ANDERSEN
Lecturer, Geology
Hedda was born in the countryside outside Oslo, Norway, and now lives on Svalbard in the Arctic. She graduated from the University Centre in Svalbard and the University of Oslo with master’s degrees in glaciology and geology. Hedda has guided thousands of visitors on Svalbard since 2018 and has worked on expedition cruises since 2020. Having also worked as an environmental scientist, she is well-versed in the natural forces that have shaped our planet.
TODD GOODING
Expedition Guide / Bear Monitor
Born and raised near London, England, Todd currently lives and works in the Canadian Arctic. He has gained invaluable experience exploring the world, immersing himself in diverse cultures, studying history, and learning new languages. Having worked in Churchill at the edge of the Arctic, he has developed a deep passion for polar bears. He began his Arctic journey scouting, tracking, and guiding to study this iconic species. Bringing these skills to Silversea, Todd currently operates within the bear team and supports Expedition safety operations.
CARL SCHOENNING-MARTIN
Lead Kayak Guide
Originally from Sweden, Carl has spent the last ten years living in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, famously known as the northernmost town on earth. He pursued his studies in Arctic nature guiding and has since worked full-time as a nature guide and outdoor educator. Carl holds certifications as a Level 5 Sea Kayak Coach and an instructor in glacier travel and rescue, first aid, and avalanche safety. His experience as a nature guide extends to other parts of the Arctic, including Greenland.
SCOTT
ROSBOROUGH
Lead Kayak Guide
Born in Toronto, Canada, Scott has been fascinated with polar environments since he was a child. After first venturing into Nunavut in 2008, he has continued to explore and guide in the Canadian Arctic on foot, by kayak, and on small boats. Having lived in Iqaluit, Nunavut, in 2018, Scott has become a certified sea kayak and wilderness guide. He has paddled on all the Great Lakes as well as all three of Canada’s ocean coasts. He is passionate about helping people build their confidence to safely paddle the earth’s most remote waters.

UUMMANNAQ FJORD, GREENLAND
RUPERT KRAPP
Expedition Field Staff Trainer
Born into a family of marine biologists, Rupert grew up in Germany and currently lives on Svalbard. He holds a master’s degree in Arctic seafloor biogeography, and a PhD in polar sea ice ecology. Trained by the German Navy as a scientific diver, he has experience diving under drifting sea ice using rebreathers. Rupert has worked in the polar expedition cruise industry for the last 22 years, before joining the Norwegian Polar Institute to study polar bears, walruses, and sea birds.
FREDRIK DOKKA
Bear Monitor
A dedicated Arctic guide, Fredrik studied Arctic outdoors and nature guiding in Northern Norway, specialising in outdoor exploration and nature-based experiences. With extensive time spent in northern Norway and Svalbard, he has explored the region’s glaciers and mountains, eagerly embracing its raw beauty and natural wonders. As a bear monitor, he combines his deep knowledge of Arctic wildlife with his field expertise to ensure the safety of guests while creating unforgettable experiences in polar bear territory.
GEORGE COWAN
Lecturer, Marine Biology & Ornithology
George Cowan was raised in Kintyre on the west coast of Scotland and now lives in the northernmost village of mainland Iceland. He graduated with degrees in zoology and marine and freshwater sciences. After five years as a whale watching and fishing guide in Iceland, he now divides his time between guiding Icelandic glacier tours and leading research teams on the Azores archipelago with the goal of helping solve the 100-year mystery of the European freshwater eel’s oceanic migration.
MICHAEL CALLAGHAN
Expedition Leader
Hailing from the cloudberry coast of Quebec’s Gulf of St. Lawrence, Michael brings a wealth of experience in remote environments. His polar career began in bespoke tourism project management in the Canadian High Arctic, and he has spent over 20 years as a paddling guide and educator across the polar regions. With a background in tourism from Concordia University and outdoor leadership from College Mérici, Michael’s knowledge of the Arctic and passion for the natural world will enrich every moment of your Expedition.
