Connor Bowman (Archibald Craven) Junior This will be Connor’s fifth show with the high school drama department at Silverdale Baptist Academy. His past shows include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mary Poppins, Pollyanna, Fiddler on the Roof, and now Secret Garden. He has a love for the arts and specifically theater. He is greatly excited to help present this amazing show to you and hopes you love it just as much as the cast has. Psalm 23:4
Lily Deas (Colin) Senior This is Lily’s 13th year at Silverdale, and she has always had a love for anything under the topic of arts. This is her first high school fall production, and it is bittersweet that it’s also her last. However, she’s extremely glad that she finally found a way to be a part of the fall show.
Gaven Hobbs (Ben Weatherstaff ) Junior Gaven is a junior this year who is super pumped about this show seeing as it’s his first show in a whole year. He has been in some fun shows like Pollyanna and Mary Poppins. He played Admiral Boom in Mary Poppins. He took a break from acting last year but has come back super excited and ready to work with this awesome cast and crew. He is super grateful to God for Mrs. Jonker, this awesome drama crew he gets to work with, and the privilege he has to perform.
Caroline Jewell (Sound Effects) Sophomore Caroline Jewell is proud to be in this year’s fall production, Secret Garden. She has enjoyed helping in two middle school plays: Little Women and Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars. She loved getting the opportunity to help in this year’s performance and hopes there are more to come. She would like to thank the Lord, her mom, and friends for convincing her to be in this production.
Cast Brayden Kinlaw (Mrs. Medlock) Senior Brayden is excited about her sixth show at Silverdale! She started acting at a young age, and theater has been a major part of her life ever since. Brayden is extremely thankful for the cast and crew of this production, especially Mrs. Jonker. They have all impacted her greatly, both on and off the stage. Brayden is looking forward to one last show this spring where she hopes to grow her skills and relationships! Psalm 13:5-6
Scout Mattila (Pitcher) Senior Scout is in his fourth year in the theater department. He has been in a number of shows such as Fiddler on the Roof (Mordcha), Pollyanna (Jimmy Bean), The Nit Wits (Milton), and others. Coming into this year, he was nervous with the change in directors, but Mrs. Jonker has been a welcome change for the department. Scout would like to thank all the people who have helped him along his theater journey. To God be the glory.
Chris Margraves (Dickon) Senior Chris is excited to perform in her second show. She has been performing all her life — dancing, playing piano, and singing. She is grateful for all the memories and friends she made this year while preparing for the show and Mrs. Jonker for helping her grow as an actress.
Hannah Martin (Orphan) Junior Hannah is very excited about this production. This will be her very first production. Other than being in the play, Hannah enjoys hanging out with friends and cheering on the sidelines for both football and basketball. Hannah wants to thank her friends, family, and God for the opportunity to be a part of this show.
Ethan McLaughen (Barney) Junior Ethan has been in every production he could be in since the 8th grade. He has been in productions including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fiddler on the Roof, and Mary Poppins. He enjoys being a part of as many productions as he can be. He gives all glory to God with his performance.
Sarah Moyers (Basil) Senior The Secret Garden is Sarah’s eighth show at Silverdale. Her favorites shows have been The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins. She is looking forward to performing with this cast and making memories! Sarah would like to thank this cast as well as Mrs. Jonker for everything throughout this past semester. Colossians 1:17 “And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
Madeline Nation (Orphan) Junior Madeline is so excited about the show. This will be her second show. Madeline was in Snow White as a bunny. Madeline loves to hang out with her friends and family. She also is a cheerleader for football and basketball, which has really helped her come out of her shell. Madeline would like to thank her amazing parents for loving her and supporting her in everything she does!
Bentley Pearson (Orphan) Sophomore Bentley Pearson has been in productions at SBA her whole life, from playing the lead role of Narrator in her 5th grade play to the role of Orphan in this production. Other shows include Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars (Detective Lestrade), Game of Myths (Clothos), and Night at the Wax Museum (Hazel Smithy-Withy). Outside of theater, she enjoys writing stories, and watching Gilmore Girls, or The Princess Diaries. She would like to thank God, her family, and her friends.
Cast Brooklynn Pearson (Nurse) Senior Brooklynn is excited for this year’s fall and spring shows. Her favorite past performances have been Fiddler on the Roof and Mary Poppins. She takes joy in writing, dancing, singing, acting, and has made some of her best memories within SBA’s theater class.
Carly Riggs (Orphan) Junior Carly Riggs plays an orphan in the play. She has helped out in other plays behind the stage before. She is a cheerleader and has been a part of the team since her freshman year. She is excited about this year’s first production. She would like to thank her friends and family for this opportunity.
Melina Stafford (Mary) Melina has loved theater ever since she can remember and is so grateful to have been a part of this show. This is her fifth production at SBA, and it has been such an amazing experience as she has made many great memories along the way. Outside of the theater, Melina enjoys singing, soccer, track, playing instruments, and baking. She would like to thank all of her friends and family for coming, but most importantly God for providing her with this opportunity.
Thomas Stradley (Colonel McGrew) Senior Thomas Stradley is debuting is his first production at Silverdale Baptist Academy. He has enjoyed working on the production this semester. Thomas appreciates his classmates as well as Mrs. Jonker for helping him get used to being on the stage. He looks forward to this performance and having fun with his classmates.
Sarah Beth Underwood (Martha Sowerby) Junior This is SB’s sixth production at Silverdale, her favorite being a tie between Mary Poppins and Fiddler on the Roof. It’s honestly been a challenge for her to play a character so vastly different from herself, and she hopes she can do Martha justice onstage. She wants to thank all those who have helped her memorize lines, given her tips, and encouraged her along the way— she wouldn’t have been able to do it without them. Psalms 27:13
Hannah Wilson (Officer’s Wife) Senior Hannah is in her fifth production with Silverdale. She has greatly enjoyed theater class and getting to work on this show. She’s thankful for all the members of the cast and everyone who made the show possible.

A Note from the Director “There’s a secret garden that’s locked far away. There are memories and miracles in this secret garden of mine. There are memories and miracles ever so fine in this secret garden of mine.”
– Frances Hodgson Burnett The Secret Garden is a story filled with love, grace, forgiveness and acceptance. It teaches us that family is not just the people related to you, but the people you are called to love and show God’s grace and mercy to. It shows us what happens when we try to hide from the pain instead of facing what we are struggling with head on. Both Collin and Archibald locked their hearts away with the Secret Garden, but it isn’t until Mary discovers the beauty that lays within, that they are all set free to experience the joy that can come from allowing love in. To me this is such a beautiful illustration of what happens when we surrender our life to the Lord. If we allow His love to unlock our hearts; we will experience true beauty for all eternity. It was incredible to see this same love, grace, and kindness in Theater this semester. There is something indescribable that happens in every Theater class during every production. You see bonds developing, trust growing, friendships blossoming - maybe it’s because students are forced to put themselves out there to be judged, they are forced to take a risk, and once they realize that they are being applauded instead of judged, they trust in a way that is not always easy. One thing I know is that I love to see this happen. I love watching my theater students step outside of their comfort zones. I love seeing them support each other, take notes for each other and, most importantly, pray for each other. I love watching them become a Theater family. I pray that is what you see! I want you to see the incredible God-given talent on stage, but also the love these students have for each other, and the Lord. I want to end by first thanking my incredible theater students. Change is hard, and they accepted and trusted me, and made me feel welcomed from the moment I stepped into the classroom. I would like to thank all the parents for sacrificing their time to help this show be a success. I would also like to thank Stephen Fister for his beautiful set design, and the faculty and staff, especially Alex Denton, Jill Fister and Tiffany Askew for all their support. And finally, I give thanks to God, who allowed me the privilege of teaching these students. To God be all the glory! Now, let’s get this show on the road…
