Annual Report 2017

Dear Silverdale Baptist Academy Family and Friends, It is my privilege to introduce you to the 2017 Annual Report. You will find a broad overview of student and program accomplishments that have occurred over the last year. Each year, as I preview the contents of this report, I am amazed anew by the favor we are shown by our Heavenly Father. It has been His grace and His hand that has led this Academy for the last 18 years. Over the last year, Silverdale Baptist Academy has seen unparalleled success in academics, growth, expansion, athletics, and the arts. We have seen God’s hand work in the lives of our Academy, our students, and our families. One of the highlights of this past year has been the introduction of the “If” Campaign. This campaign has introduced the opportunity for us to join God where He is at work. The Silverdale Center will be a 54,000 square foot facility that will, among many other things, house the 630 seat Creekside Theatre where all of our many performances in the area of drama and dance and public speaking will take place. Also included will be a 1,000 seat gymnasium that will be built tournament-ready so that we can begin to house tournaments for our volleyball program and our men’s and women’s basketball teams. Our gender-based 6th grade program will be housed in the Silverdale Center along with a band room, a black box theatre, a dance studio, practice rooms for our fine arts program, and much more. As it has been stated over and over for the last year, our students benefit from Silverdale Baptist Church’s past and we now have a great responsibility to the future of Silverdale Baptist Academy. As always, we thank you for giving us the opportunity to educate and mentor your children. We take this honor and responsibility very seriously. We count it a privilege to stand alongside you as we work together to raise children of character for the 21st century.

Fresh Perspectives In

GOD’S GREAT OUTDOORS At Silverdale, God’s great outdoors is a part of daily student life! Our younger students in preschool and elementary school can often be found around or even in - Friar Branch creek that runs through our campus. For them, it is the thrill of discovery and the anticipation of surprises under each rock and around every nook that provides unrivaled joy on their faces. Our upper school students can also be found along the creek, in the outdoor classroom, or anywhere there is a place to relax and focus on a good book or a group project. It is not limited to our campus though, as students explore places like The Hiwassee River, Point Park, and the Okefenokee Swamp all in the name of outdoor education!

ABOVE: Curious students observe and explore in Friar Branch, which runs through the center of campus.

Research shows us that education in and of the outdoors diminishes student disciplinary issues, and we’ve seen this to absolutely be the case at Silverdale. Beyond discipline improvement, consistent exposure to the outdoors can decrease stress and anxiety, help elevate mood, and help with emotion. It has brought out excitement, passion, focus, and a genuine love for learning in our students. It is a much healthier alternative to the artificial light environment of a classroom, and also inevitably diminishes unnecessary screen time on devices like tablets and computers. All in all, our Outdoor Education Initiative has easily been one of the best decisions we’ve ever made!
