Welcome to Silver Bay…. As a private organization we require all of our guests to have a badge and display their parking pass in their car. If you are not a registered guest or program pass holder we invite you to join us. Please visit the front desk to learn more. If you are a registered guest or program pass holder and have lost your badge or parking pass we ask that you visit the front desk for a replacement. A fee may apply. While on property we remind you that you are required to wear your badge at all times to have access to the campus and a variety of programs and activities. To purchase and/or pick up your badge and parking pass visit the front desk. Lastly, for everyone’s safety and security, those not displaying valid parking passes are subject to having their vehicles towed and those not wearing valid badges will be asked to leave the property.

SILVER BAY TRAILS WOODSIDE TRAILHEAD (located across Route 9N at south entrance to service road) is the starting point for the following destinations. Inspiration Point. Red markers. Access Inspiration Point from the north. Follow blue trail, an old logging road, until abrupt left turn onto red trail into woods. Steady upward climb. Moderate. 1 mile. 600 ft elevation gain. Inspiration Point. Access Inspiration Point from the south. Start on blue/white trail, left turn onto white Cliffside trail, at junction with orange trail sharp right, follow orange trail to junction with white trail at stream, sharp right onto white trail, white trail to sharp right at junction with red trail, follow red trail to Inspiration Point. Steady upward climb. Moderate. 1.5 miles. 600 ft elevation gain. Ryan's Ridge Lean-tos. Orange markers. Left turn off blue/white trail onto orange trail to Ryan's Ridge Lean-tos. In 2007 two lean-tos were built for children's programs in memory of Ryan Dickson, former Emp. Easy. 0.25 mile. 150 ft. elevation gain. Uncas Cliff. White markers. Follow blue/white trail to left turn onto white Cliffside Trail along base of escarpment marking ancient fault. Continue straight ahead on white trail at junction with orange trail. Steady upward climb, one very steep section. End at legendary cliff with remarkable view of lake. Difficult. 0.75 mile. 400 ft elevation gain. Skipper Mac's Cairn. White markers. Continue from Uncas Cliff on white trail, one short, steep climb, arrive at large cairn with views of the lake to the south and of Catamount Mt. to the west. Moderate from Uncas Cliff to Cairn. 1 mile and 600 ft elevation gain from trailhead. Uncas Waterfall from Cairn. Blue markers. Follow blue trail to small waterfall. Easy from Cairn. 1.25 mile and 600 ft elevation gain from trailhead. Uncas Waterfall from Woodside trailhead. White markers. Follow blue/white trail to left turn onto white Cliffside trail, sharp right turn onto orange trail, sharp left turn onto white trail, then blue trail to Waterfall. Steady upward climb, minor dips. Moderate. 1.25 mile and 450 ft elevation gain from trailhead. Lost Pond from south. Orange markers. Follow blue/white trail, left onto white Cliffside trail, sharp right turn onto orange trail, sharp right turn at stream onto white trail, straight ahead at junction with orange trail, proceed to side trail to a small vernal pond. Steady uphill climb. Moderate. 1.25 mile. 600 ft elevation gain. Lost Pond from north. Orange markers. Follow blue trail past junction to Inspiration Point to junction with trail with only orange markers, sharp left turn onto orange trail, continue to junction with side trail to pond. Mostly uphill. Moderate. 1 mile. 600 ft elevation gain. Hudushone Lean-to. Green markers. Blue trail to sharp left onto trail with only green markers. Steady uphill climb. Stunning views in an unspoiled wilderness setting. Moderate to difficult. 1 mile. 800 ft elevation gain. Jabez Pond from Woodside trailhead. Blue markers. Follow blue trail to junction with another blue trail, bear left, follow that blue trail to Silver Bay property line and then follow state markers to pond. Moderate underfoot but long and all uphill. 2.2 miles. 900 ft elevation gain. ADAMS BROOK TRAILHEAD (located across Route 9N from Hillcrest Cottage) is the starting point for the following destinations. Jabez Pond from Adams Brook trailhead. Blue markers. Follow blue trail to Silver Bay property line and then state markers to pond. Moderate underfoot but long and all uphill. 1.5 miles, 900 ft elevation gain. Sunrise Mountain. Red markers. A difficult trail with rocky terrain and steep inclines; one of Silver Bay's most challenging hikes. 0.75 mile. 800 ft elevation gain. Bob James Trail. White markers. A moderate to difficult trail which connects Sunrise Mountain to the Jabez Pond trail. It offers a more gradual ascent to Sunrise Mt. from the west. 0.75 mile following white markers from the blue Jabez Pond trail to Sunrise Mt. 300 ft total elevation gain. North Jabez Trail. Orange markers. A moderate trail that climbs to state land and the north end of Jabez Pond. Left turn off Sunrise Mt. trail onto orange trail. 1.75 miles from Adams Brook trailhead to pond. 900 ft elevation gain. ON-CAMPUS TRAILS Horn Memorial Nature Trail. White markers. Start at kiosk across from Fisher Gym. Level trail with 30 marked stations noting natural features. Easy. 1.25 mile loop. Lakeshore Trail. White markers. Start at beach on south side of Slim Point. Gorgeous minitrail, the short steep climb is over almost before it starts, views, wildflowers. Easy. 0.5 mile. 100 ft elevation gain.

ICE CREAM SCOOPER

Help the amazing staff in the Food Service department serve guests in the dining hall while getting a behindthe-scenes look at the William Boyd Center. Hours: Every day 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. & 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Responsibilities: Greet and assist guests, fill orders at the buffet line and other tasks as assigned.

Volunteers willing to be part of ICE CREAM SCOOPING FUN at the best place on Lake George. Hours: Tuesday - Friday & Sunday 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Because each shift starts with a 30-minutes training session, we ask that volunteers sign up for the entire four-hour shift. Consider grabbing your family or friends and taking over The Store for a night!

SPIRITUAL LIFE GREETERS

HOUSEKEEPING Hospitality Services are the backbone of Silver Bay. Give the housekeeping crew some much-needed support. Hours: Mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. Responsibilities: Assist in room turnovers (bed making, cleaning rooms, etc.) and cottage preparation and support sanitation efforts.

Get to know the Silver Bay community by greeting Spiritual Life guests. Hours: Vespers, everyday 6:45 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. Sunday Services, 9:15 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. and Memorial Services, varied times based on need Responsibilities: Greet guests and help them find seating.

TRAIL MAINTENANCE Enjoy a walk in the woods while helping keep Silver Bay’s trails clean! Hours: TBD. Responsibilities: Help to clear and maintain Silver Bay’s network of trails.

SILVER CAMP ABOUT SILVER CAMP

WEEKS OFFERED

Silver Camp is a Day Camp program for youth and is licensed and inspected annually by the New York State Department of Health. Campers are placed in age appropriate groups and most groups offer both half and full day programs.

Camp is offered in 8, one-week sessions. Weekly sessions for 2022 are: June 27 - July 1 July 26 - July 29 July 4 - July 8 August 1 - August 5 July 11 - July 15 August 8 - August 12 July 18 - July 22 August 15 - August 19

ON-LINE REGISTRATION Visit our on-line registration site at www.silverbay.org/ forms for Silver Camp. Registrations must be made at least one week (7 days) prior to the first camp session you plan to enroll your child in. PLEASE NOTE: Silver bay will no longer be accepting day of registrations for silver camp. The New York State Department of Health requires annual submission of immunizations records from your health care provider. We cannot pull medical forms from previous years. Financial Assistance is available through our Scholarship Program, Open Pathways. Simply fill out the scholarship form and upload a copy of your Federal Income Tax Return when registering on-line.

SIGN IN - SIGN OUT PROCEDURES A parent or guardian must sign each child in and out daily at each group location. Children in Ravens, and Eagles can sign themselves out as long as a parent/ guardian has completed the Self Sign Out form on the Silver Camp registration portal. PLEASE NOTE: Staff will not be available to accept drop-off’s before 8:15 a.m.

SLIM POINT BEACH

Experience Lake George from its most beautiful vantage point aboard the Silver Spirit. The 30’ pontoon boat is easy to board and provides a comfortable ride with plenty of shade. Passangers are advised to bring a jacket. Air temperature is cooler on the Lake. Tour may be modified at the discretion of the captain.

SAILING

FIRST AID

SAILBOAT SCREENING TEST

PLEASE NOTE: To use sailboats, guests must demonstrate their sailing skills. See boathouse staff to schedule your screening test.

Silver Bay has on-call first aid certified staff during the summer season. The First Aid Team is available to assist with guest’s first aid concerns, and to respond to oncampus emergencies.

BASIC SAILING LESSONS

HOURS: Open Daily 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The 4-part course teaches the fundamentals of sailing to guests with little or no previous sailing experience. Each participant must complete 4 total classes.

LOCATION: At the end of the 1st floor guest corridor

Minimum age 12. Sign up in advance, in-person at the boathouse. Space is limited. First come first served.

SUNFISH SAILING RACE

on the northwest corner of the Inn (entrance is outside), or contact the Front Desk located in the lobby of the Inn to radio the First Aid Staff. Youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or an adult with signed consent for treatment.

Race begins Friday at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Put your sailing skills to the test in our weekly race. Arrive early to secure your boat.

HIKING TRAILS

Explore over 20 miles of trails on Silver Bay’s 700+ acres and neighboring State Land.

LOCATION: Watson Arts Center INSTRUCTOR: Kathy Becker AGES: 13+ COST: $22 to start. Anyone from an aspiring artist to an expert is welcome to join in on painting a Silver Bay scene. Artists meet at Watson and walk to different locations around campus each day to choose subjects to paint, dependent upon the weather. Artists can choose to paint on their own in Watson. Work is displayed daily in Watson Arts Center.

DRONE/UAS POLICY

MAINTENANCE

The use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), including, but not limited to, drones and radio-controlled aircraft and devices, in airspace above Silver Bay YMCA requires advance written approval. For guest groups holding a contracted event (e.g. conferences, weddings, etc.), the group leader is required to obtain written permission from Silver Bay YMCA prior to their event if they wish to utilize a professional vendor for drone photography and filming. Such permission, when granted, will be limited exclusively to the contracted event venue and time frame.

PARKING When you arrive on-campus, please proceed to the front desk to check-in and obtain a parking tag. For those staying in cottages, Paine Hall, Trinity House and Brookside Community House, your parking is next to/nearby your accommodation. The remaining guests are invited to unload/load at their accommodation, where designated parking for a maximum of 15 minutes is provided. After unloading, please park in the new main lot located at the end of the service road, near 9N. For our off-campus guests, there are several designated day-use lots located at Archery, the Children’s Pavilion, the Store, behind the William Boyd Center, the Tennis Backboard, and Fisher Gym. If those areas are full, you are invited to utilize our new main lot parking area.

GENERAL INFORMATION Handicap parking spaces are located all around campus, from Slim Point to Archery, and also in the new main parking area. For those who have a physical limitation and/or during inclement weather, a shuttle service will be available for transport. Please let the Front Desk staff know, and they will arrange for a pick-up.

PETS Pets are not allowed on Silver Bay property except for the hiking trails west of 9N, and the public Silver Bay Road which runs through the property (not the service road). Dogs must be leashed at all times.

QUIET HOURS Quiet hours are 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. throughout campus. Please be respectful of other guests.

RECYCLING Silver Bay has added zero sort recycling receptacles across campus. No need to separate your paper, glass, and cans; our waste management company allows us to toss all recyclables into one bin.

SECURITY Silver Bay provides round-the-clock guest service personnel. If you have a security issue, please see the Front Desk.

SMOKING Silver Bay YMCA has a restricted smoking policy. Smoking of any kind is not allowed in any buildings, including guest rooms, meeting rooms and/or porches of any buildings. A charge of $300.00 may be charged to the credit card on file to cover damage/cleaning fees if you violate this policy. All public areas including beaches, unless posted otherwise, are deemed a no smoking area. Smoking tobacco is ONLY permitted in the designated smoking area (e.g. near the flagpole). As allowed by law in New York, Silver Bay YMCA has a strict no marijuana policy that forbids the possession, use and/or consumption of marijuana anywhere on our properties, in our facilities, or during participation in our programming.
