hy is it so hard to find delicious healthy food?

Why is it that the majority of foods offered are doused in grease and being cooked with so many things that are bad for us?

Is it possible to cook amazing food and not have to be afraid of consuming 3000 calories a seating? Is it just too much to ask for?

In November of 2013, Eat Real Café opened its doors and set out to provide a quick-service stop for healthy food and drinks. Our focus is to be transparent about every item that makes up the range of foods we offer. Everything from the type of flour we use to the origins of how our fruits and vegetables are being harvested. We don’t use Hydrogenated oils, we don’t offer anything with corn syrup, and our produce comes from reputable farmers that have been certified USDA organic.

We are making sure that Eat Real Café offers food that will propel the human body without ever compromising taste. We feel that you should just “EAT REAL.”

Over the years, the medical profession has discovered that the part of the eye called the “retina” plays a critical role in discovering eye health issues, but general health issues as well.

The retina is the part of the eye that contains cells that detect light. A retina scan is a complement to — not a substitute for — a traditional eye exam. During a traditional eye exam, we dilate your eyes with special eye drops and then check your retinas for abnormalities using tools such as an ophthalmoscope — a lighted magnifying instrument. When a retina scan is conducted, a laser scans your eyes and then produces digital images of your retinas. Retinal scanning can help diagnose many of these maladies early. Pain between the shoulder blades

“D

octor, I’ve had this pain between my shoulder blades for two months now.

It just gradually came on and I can’t seem to get rid of it. I put heat on it, tried to stretch it out, but nothing helps.”

This is the typical story of many patients who come to us complaining of pain between the shoulder blades. The bones in the Thoracic spine (midback) are not as vulnerable to injury as those of the neck or low back. This is because they are supported by the rib cage. Despite the added protection, however, pain between the shoulder blades is a common ailment and requires expert treatment to prevent a chronic disorder from developing.

Sometimes pain is caused from old chronic injuries such as sports injuries. Twisting the torso beyond its normal range of motion can wear muscles that connect the vertebrae together, leaving a weakness in that area of the spine. Many people have congenital scoliosis (curvature of the spine) in varying degrees. When they are under stress the body loses its ability to compensate for the curvature.

Pain that gradually develops without apparent cause is usually the result of chronic postural stress of the spine. It may be from long distance driving or even hours of sitting in an awkward position. Sometimes even a rib will become dislocated. This usually causes more intense pain and will be aggravated on taking a deep breath, coughing or sneezing.

Whatever the cause, pain between the shoulder blades can be one of the most annoying and aggravating of symptoms. It may even keep you up at night. You never seem to find a comfortable position. Every time you move in the wrong position the pain causes muscle spasm which causes more pain. It’s a vicious cycle.

When the pain is caused by nerve pressure from the spine or rib cage it requires expert care to correct. Chiropractors are the only specialists trained in the precise manipulative procedures needed to remove the cause of the problem. Many patients feel relief immediately after the adjustment. When children struggle in school, the frustration can seem overwhelming. Getting back on track to academic success can seem like an impossible task.

Frequently parents come to the Tutoring Club after receiving a poor report card, but bad grades are a symptom of a larger problem. Grades help to gauge a child’s progress, but do nothing to assess individual skills.

Identifying skill gaps and correcting academic deficiencies is the only way to help children who are behind get back on track. Our goal is to bring each student to the desired academic level as quickly as possible. Cool Season Vegetables!

A

s summer draws to an end and the nights become cooler, residents of Santa Clarita can begin to plan and plant a winter vegetable garden. Thoughts of home-grown lettuce and peas offer encouragement to get out and prepare the vegetable garden.

If your yard does not have an area designated for a vegetable garden, consider creating one from a section of lawn or an unused side yard. All that is needed is soil and a sunny area. Even large containers set on a sunny patio will serve to grow many vegetables.

October is an ideal time to set out vegetable seedlings. Seeds can also be sown directly in the garden. Green Thumb Garden Center will be well stocked with a great variety of vegetable starts as soon as summer heat has passed.

Homemade compost, or bagged amendments purchased at Green Thumb should be added to the soil at the rate of six cubic feet per one hundred square feet of garden area. An organic fertilizer may also be applied at this time. The soil may be turned, amendments added, and plants planted all in the same day.

Most vegetables do fine with a deep watering several times a week. A soakertype hose or drip system also works very well.

Cool season vegetables are relatively easy to grow. Lettuce, celery, cilantro, broccoli, cabbage, and peas are a few varieties that most home gardeners have success with. Root crops such as radishes, onions, garlic, and carrots also flourish with very little care. Fertilizer and insect control are probably the only additional expenditures needed after purchasing the plants.

So enjoy the fall weather, treat yourself with a trip to Green Thumb Garden Center, plant your vegetable garden, and reward yourself with fresh produce all winter long.
