Vincenzo’s Pizza in Newhall Proudly serving the Santa Clarita Valley for 43 years, the owners at Vincenzo’s Pizza in Newhall were thrilled to discover they had been chosen as the Best Family Restaurant by the readers of the Santa Clarita Signal.

“We pride ourselves on our customer service, and some of our employees have been with us for more than 30 years,” explained owner Steven Katz. “We know our neighbors well and have been making our customers feel welcome at our restaurant for more than four decades!”

Operating from the same location since 1979, the restaurant was started by descendants of Vincenzo Chianese, who emigrated to the U.S. after World War II. The recipe for the authentic Napoli dough has been passed down through generations of Vincenzo’s family, and they introduced it to the residents of Pittsburg when he opened the first Vincenzo’s Pizza there in 1950. Vincenzo’s unique crust is all natural, contains no dairy products, eggs, fillers, extenders or artificial flavorings, and is still the same recipe that was used back in 1950.

Known as a true East Coast pizza, lovers of pizza have been visiting Vincenzo’s from not only the Santa Clarita Valley, but as far away as Bakersfield, Santa Barbara and Palm Springs, just to get a taste of Vincenzo’s amazing pizzas!

Kitchens have long been considered the most popular gathering spaces in a home. That popularity compels millions of homeowners to renovate their kitchens each year, and the return on those investments is often significant.

A number of variables, including the value of neighboring homes and how quickly homeowners sell their homes after a renovation, affect the return on investment with a given project. According to Remodeling magazine’s “2021 Cost vs. Value Report,” homeowners recouped roughly 72% of their investment in a minor kitchen remodel at resale.

That’s a sizable return that outperformed other popular upgrades, including vinyl siding replacement and wood deck additions.

Average flooring costs can be hard to calculate because they depend so heavily on homeowners’ choice of materials. Vinyl Vinyl flooring is popular thanks in large part to its cost.

According to the home remodeling experts at HomeAdvisor, vinyl flooring installation is much less costly than other types of flooring.

Turn Your Yard Into a Vacation-Worthy Oasis Over the last few years, families have become especially familiar with what works about their yards and where there is room for improvement. Pandemic-related travel restrictions and early stay-at-home mandates resulted in plenty of time spent in backyards on staycations. Do I need an eye exam every time I need more contact lenses?

In one simple word, YES. The Doctors and staff at Corben Optometry believe that having an exam will reduce the potential implications of overuse and abuse of contact lens wear.

The Doctors look for signs of damage that, if left untreated, may lead to more severe problems.

These often have no symptoms early on and you may be totally unaware of them.

Contact lenses are often more complex than they appear. Contact lens wear causes many changes to cells and tissues of the eye, and sometimes wearing contact lenses can damage the cornea (the clear window of the eye).

Even if you are currently experiencing no problems, the lenses may be causing damage to your eyes. After the initial exam, the doctors will perform a contact lens exam.

At this time, they will re-evaluate the fit of your contact lenses and observe if there are changes to the health of your eyes caused by your lenses.

They will ensure that you will have a correct, current prescription to help avoid any serious problems, especially if you wear your lenses on an extended or overnight schedule.

Helm Vision Group: Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery

As the decades progress, new medical technology emerges that paves the way for increased efficiency, better predictability, and improved safety when it comes to tedious procedures and unique cases.

The Ziemer FEMTO LDV Z8 laser is the latest technology that we have introduced to Helm Vision Group. This laser has transformed our LASIK laser vision correction procedures to be completely blade free and assists us with cataract procedures, as well.

Our primary, initial reason for acquiring the Ziemer FEMTO LDV Z8 laser was to perform part of the procedure for LASIK laser vision correction, replacing the microkeratome blade.

This versatile laser, however, is also capable of performing laserassisted cataract surgery so we

began using it for this purpose.

What we have discovered through its use has been surprising! I was surprised to find that cataract surgery was made easier for me as a surgeon. The precision of the lasermade incisions in the cornea and in the lens capsule are amazing.

The most important help provided by the laser though, is that it

softens the cataract by lasering it into smaller pieces. That makes it so that it requires less ultrasound energy to remove it. This results in easier surgery and a faster recovery. For some cataracts that are more advanced, femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery truly is a safer procedure.

I’m Gracie, and I’m the official dog of Go Dental. I’ve been with the practice for the last 8 months, and my official title is Therapy Dog in residence. It’s been the best job I’ve ever had because, well, I’ve never had another job. My job duties are pretty simple, I walk from room to room in search of a doggie treat. But they are pretty hard to come by these days. One day I could barely get up, and my dad called me F.A.T. I can’t spell, so I don’t know what that stands for, but the treats stopped. It’s ok though because I like getting pets just as much. And all the nice people that come in love to give me pets. I don’t like the person in the brown outfit that carries boxes into our office so I bark at him. But I love everyone else.

I just have one bone to pick. Everyone talks about how Go Dental does excellent work. They keep winning awards like Elite Magazines Ultimate Dentist, The Signal’s award for Best Cosmetic Dentist, and have so many 5 star reviews. Everyone here is proud that all their hard work is recognized by the community and their patients. But doing great work is only part of the story. It’s important to be honest and not oversell treatment.

It’s important to be compassionate and caring toward every patient that walks through our doors. And it’s important to be gentle and provide the best dental experience. When our patients are happy, then our staff is happy. And when our staff is happy, they give me more treats. And when I have more treats, I’m happy.

The first Girl Talk focused on breast health and featured Henry Mayo and University of Southern California breast surgeon Amanda Woodworth, MD, and lead radiologist at the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center Anajli Date, MD. Community members enjoyed appetizers and beverages while submitting questions to the physicians anonymously.

“We’re pleased the first Girl Talk was so successful. Attendees were grateful for the opportunity to get their breast health questions answered in a fun, relaxed environment. Dr. Justin Heller, a Valencia-based Board-certified plastic surgeon has been making people in the Santa Clarita Valley feel better about their self-image for years with his surgical skills, was once again honored by the community for his work.

Heller was recognized by Santa Clarita Valley residents as the best place for cosmetic surgery once again for 2022, which means a lot for the Yale-trained surgeon who loves calling Santa Clarita his home. Heller runs a family business in Santa Clarita with his wife, Ana, who manages Heller’s office.

“It’s tremendously flattering,” Heller said upon learning he was once again recognized by his neighbors for his work. “And it means a lot simply because I continuously work to always make sure that we’re doing better, and bringing the best kind of results to everyone that we can. I go and do house calls on patients, I make sure to see everybody, and that stems from a desire to make sure the patients are comfortable and know that I’m always there for them. To get recognized for all the efforts I do throughout the year is flattering and really nice.”

Heller also felt it was a special recognition to him because he cares a lot about his hometown and giving back, which he does through his work with nonprofits like Smile Train, an international charity that provides facial, cleft lip and palate surgery to children in need, or Circle of Hope, which he’s supported by performing reconstructive breast surgeries for cancer survivors. 

Strike Two Against California’s Board Diversity Statutes

By Chris S. Jacobsen On May 13, 2022, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis rendered a verdict in Crest v. Padilla, Case No. 19STCV27561, that California Corporations Code section 301.3 (also known as SB 826) mandating California-based public companies to add to their boards of directors one to three women directors (depending upon the size of the board) violated the equal protection clause of the state constitution. This verdict was California’s second defeat on statutes addressing diversity on public company

boards of directors, following the April 1, 2022 striking down of Corporations Code section 301.4 (also known as AB 979) which sought to mandate board representation from certain underrepresented communities.

SB 826 required each publicly held domestic or foreign corporation whose principal executive offices are located in California to have one female director on its board of directors by the close of the 2019 calendar year and, no later than the close of the 2021 calendar year, a minimum of three female directors if the corporation’s

What is a trust?

A trust is a relationship in which another party is given authority to handle a person’s assets for the benefit of that person’s beneficiaries. When making a trust, a person will need to designate someone as a trustee, who will be tasked with distributing assets in accordance to the terms dictated in the trust.

There are many types of trusts, and working with an attorney who specializes in estate planning can help men and women determine which type of trust, if any, is best for them. (MC) 

What is a will?

The online financial resource Investopedia notes that wills are legally enforceable documents that dictate how people want their affairs handled and assets allocated in the wake of their deaths.

Wills should include a host of information, including who a person wants to assume guardianship of minor-aged children. This is especially

important information to include in a will, as surviving relatives may have to go to court to contest guardianship if parents do not dictate who they want to serve as guardians in their wills.

board had six or more members, a minimum of two female directors if the corporation’s board had five members, and a minimum of one female director if the corporation’s board had four or fewer members.

Violators of the statute were to be subject to fines of $100,000 for the first violation and $300,000 for a second or subsequent violation.

In rendering its verdict, the court first noted that, under California law, classifications based on gender have long been considered “suspect” for purposes of equal protection analysis and that a meritorious claim under the equal protection clause must show that the state has adopted a classification that affects two or more “similarly situated” groups in an unequal matter. The court then noted that the plaintiffs had carried their burden to prove that men and women are similarly situated for purposes of SB 826’s gender-based quota. As a result, the burden of proof shifted to the state to provide that SB 826 satisfies strict scrutiny.

The state may appeal each of the rulings on SB 826 and AB 979 within 60 days after entry of their respective judgments. In addition, other pressure may come to bear on public companies to diversify their boards of directors. For example, Nasdaq has adopted a

College of Canyons Public info COC to Host Welcome Day on August 12 for New Students

On Friday, Aug. 12, College of the Canyons will host Welcome Day to better assist its incoming class of freshman students, as well as prospective and continuing students.

The one-day event will welcome new students and their families with many workshops—held in English and Spanish—on a variety of topics such as financial aid and how to be a successful student.

“We hope this event helps incoming students feel better prepared for their first day of college,” said Jasmine Ruys, vice president of student services at the college.

“We are very excited to meet our new students, as well as their families, as they become familiar with our beautiful campus and all the resources we have to offer.”

Students will receive

personalized help with applying and registering for the fall semester, meet fellow new students, professors, explore majors, take a campus tour, and learn about the campus environment and support programs.

Welcome Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Honor Grove, located at the college’s Valencia campus.

Workshops will be held every half hour from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

This free event is open to new and prospective students, as well as their families.

Christmas Eve 2020 Song provided 350 Poke Bowls to Henry Mayo first responders

Song Cho wanted to help the healthcare workers in our community during the Pandemic, he donated 400 individually packed Sushi Boxes for each healthcare worker at Henry Mayo Hospital.

Also, as a member of Kaiser Permanente, Song Cho says he did not feel like his task was complete without donating to them too. This time he made 200 Honolulu individually boxed Poke Bowls to give to all their health care workers.
